Cops can use Imported Bikes assembled from parts?

I read this article today on new bikes for the Cochin Traffic Police and was appalled at the last paragraph which seems to suggest that the bikes are imported but assembled from parts.

All this is funded from the MP's discretionary fund!

So the law can break the law?

Steer there is another interesting piece of news on that site

Collector bans illegal motor racing

"The use of motor cycles and scooters above 350 cc along this stretch has been banned between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. If anybody is found violating it, the vehicle would be seized and legal measures would be initiated as per the Motor Vehicles Act and Indian Penal Code."

Expect a lawsuit from German Police soon for disgracing them.

“I noticed the bikes used by German police during my visit to that country a few years back.
Providing such vehicles will be an added advantage for the Kochi Police,” said K V Thomas.
Thomas probably didnt notice they have good roads as well in Germany. Imagine if he thought of bringing home a road!

Good part is probably few years down the line we can buy those bikes, provided if they're any good, when they auction it. Like they did with those RD350s.

Or

After sometime one by one each of those would be retired from service due to some lame excuse like "unavailability of spare parts".

Really Good as long as the Cops retire or the vehicle retires fine by me as long as we are able to get the vehicles in our hands

cheers:

I think these will be add ons to an existing Indian bike. Current equipment levels are sad - to say the least. At the very least it should have decent communication and signalling equipment.

I hope they are taught the rules of riding and asked to follow them before enforcing them, it might actually help.

You know what, when the haryana police were using RD350's for patroling duties long time back, they did have great, fast bikes for sure, with the govt' funding the parts and all, but nobody to fund the fuel for the bikes. So ultimately they turned to police show bikes, and finally landed up with people likw us. I have seen haryana auctioned bikes starting from chassis serial no. 874(which suggests its a 84) to 9670(about 88-89), so that was quite a long delivery period, so i wonder how many of them they finally got. But all this time, they never even once thought they are short of fuel to run them in the first place. i have seen 14 black, brand new condition bikes auctioned by karnal police in 2004.
