New Bajaj motorcycle on 21 Jan, five more later in the year

Just a heads up. Mr. Bajaj was on CNBC some hours earlier, and he discussed the perfromance of his company.

In the course of conversation he confirmed that Bajaj is launching a new bike called XCD-135 on 21.01.2009. The bike is being positioned as a 'sporty-commuter'. Fuel efficiency of a 100 cc and performance of a 135cc motor (according to him!).

He also mentioned that Bajaj are going to launch six new prodcuts this year.

this is what Bajaj has been doing

writing down different names for bikes - XCD,PLATINA,DISCOVER,PULSAR etc etc
different displacement options - 100,110,125,135,150,180,220
technology - DTSI, DTS-SI, what next ??

then do mix and match and keep launching bikes !

NEXT WOULD BE DISCOVER 220 DTS-SI -

I hope that they might launch a 250cc bike, cause at Jan Expo'08 they were talking about making a engine with the help of KTM.

Well, of the remaining five products, one is speculated to be a 150cc commuter bike. The Unicorn slayer, if you will. In turn Pulsar 150cc is rumoured to be discontinued. Another product might be the baby Ninja.

Still that's three 'unknown' products.

Now I am sure Bajaj is confused about their product line up.
What they first need is a new 150cc fuel injected bike, then a 200/180 ( Let there be only one ) FI bike.
In the lower segment, they need a proper 100cc bike, without which they will not be able to survive in this market. And a better, bigger 125cc machine.
This will help them come out of trouble.
Or else, they will one day come to fourth from the third position they are in.

Interchanging the 135cc engine with XCD chassis is not a good idea. Although I doubt it will be as powerful as in Discover, but it confuses any one standing in the showroom. I hope this does not happen.

They already have slipped to the fourth position behind TVS in December sales. Bajaj desperately need a product, which can pull them back, like Pulsar!

!!!!

Where did you get this information?! If true, situation is serious for Bajaj. Bajaj said they will witness a marketshare drop -but a rise in profitability- because of their 125cc strategy. But I don't think they were prepared for this!

Essentially Bajaj will have to refresh their entire bike lineup this year.

it doesnt look like bajaj is going to refresh their lineup soonenough. all we hear is the launch of xcds, discovers and the platinas these days. bajaj needs to understand that they are losing on the 100 cc as well as 150+ cc fronts together due to the lack of strong products. pulsar has become too old indeed. the baby kwacker could do good to bajaj but the launch date is itself not cleared yet. seems like bajaj is going the 220 launch way with the ninja too. god help them
