Where is my RX 100?

Hello Everyone

I am looking for a RX 100 any model max price 14 K. I have been looking around for almost 2 weeks and no luck. All I hear is they have a RX 135 but then to me its not RX 100.

I am planing to get the RX 100 spend money on it and make it looking like as if its out of the showroom. This would make me feel young and remind me of those good old days when we ate, drank and slept bikes.

Those days I had a samurai converted into a shogun by replacing the samurai's bore, piston, rings, connecting rod, carburator and the Induction system with shogun's. To finish it off I had a custom built performance chamber installed to the samurai.

The finished product was a hybrid, by all means this can even put shogun to shame, those days if RX 100's are not ported and performance tuned then shogun was way ahead of RX 100. Anyways this was 13 years ago.

For now I have 2 questions

1) Any suggestions on RX 135 or do i stick with RX 100?
2) Do I have to be specific on the year of manufacturing while buying or any model will do
3) A digital CDI whatever this is, will this thing fit in RX 100 scheme of things?

@FreeWill:

There is a RX100 for sale by someone in my company (Bangalore). If you are interested, send me a PM.

PS: I am in NO way associated with the seller/bike. This is listed in my company's intranet and is available.

There is something different about the RX100 that u dont get in the 135 - apart from the exhaust note which got muted thanks to the cat con..

going a bit OT - there were some rumours back in the late 80s ( i think the first 2/3 yrs of the RX100 launch ) that YAMAHA was selling 125cc engines in the guise of the 100 which was supposedly the reason for the segment leading performance of the RX. wonder whether that was true

Hi Esteem

Narayan was right in saying there is something different about RX 100.

In 96 RX 100 was discontinued after that RXG was a flop didnt have the beat and the engine was sluggish didn't go well with the crowd.

Then came RX 135 was a re-badged RXG didn't go well had starting problems

After that RX 135 YEIS think 99 - 01 escorts engine 4 speed did well but still no comparison with RX 100 in terms of reliability, performance and beat.

Then came RX 135 5 speed and 4 speed with and without catalytic conv these models were utter failure starting problems, clutch problems and a sluggish engine.

Narayan was again right that the RX 100's which came in 86 - 88 with Jap components where 110 cc so Yamaha had to sedate the engine a bit to make it 100

These are the reasons which makes me dream about RX 100 as it was and is a real beast.

Haha the RX100 vs RX135 wars after a long time but your arguement is quite biased and ill informed . The RX100 is a great bike and if u want an RX100 just to relieve memories then by all means go ahead and get one . Its iconic and I love the RX100 , I love the decals , the beat and a black coloured well maintained one will always be a neighbours envy including mine and an owner's pride. That said however , if you do want the best RX ever made here in India , you need to go for the RX135 5 speed . Since u have a grouse with the cat. con ( most of us do ) , take it off and replace with the stock chrome silencer for that beat or better still put on an expansion chamber and fly past the RX100 . 5 speeds are slightly lacking in initial but they more then make up for it in mid range and top end . However nowadays they are a little hard to find . So you decide . I have no idea what you are talking about when you say the 135s had starting problems , clutch problems and a sluggish engine. If its the instant low end you are after get the 5 speed and plonk on a 4 speed barrel onto it .

Hi 2stroke

First thanks for taking time to visit my thread and casting your views.

All the information I got about RX 135 is mostly from team-bhp forums and wikipedia(Type RX 135 in search). Well to be more open I have never driven a RX 135. Have you owned a RX 135 5 speed at some point of time?

Tell me about it does RX 135 give you "THAT FEEL" which you get when you ride on a RX 100. When i say that feel means there are no words and i cant explain.

You said RX 135 - 5 speed is a great machine does it give you that feel? If yes I would love to test RX 135 5 speed as I have nothing against it. Yes, I will pull off the cat con In your last sentence you said plonk a 4 speed barrel(Did you mean the bore?) if yes then does 4 speed and 5 speed come in different CC please throw some light on it I am a learner and open to any suggestions. Also the best RX ever made was RX 135 5 speed is there a reference for that.

Your recomendation RX 135 5 speed but which year anything particular which ill have to look for?

RX135 5s was the best of the lot.. but they are rare.. but you can pick up an RX135 4s and later convert it to a 5 speed by adding an extra cog..its not difficult

I had an RX135 5 speed and it betters the RX100 in everything except nostalgia.

RX135 4 speed and 5speed has different port layouts and different heads. 4 speed barrel for the low end torque and 5 speed barrel for the top end rush.

The best RX even made IS the RX135 5speed. RX100 is too old and too slow, for this age. If you want an RX100 then by all means go for that. If you want an RX that has the feel, can keep up with traffic, entertain you, have fun then 5speed is the answer.

Early RX100s never came in 110cc or 125 cc they're all rumors.

RX135 was never a rebadged RXG. G had too many flaws.

Anybody tried putting a RX100 stock pipe on to a RX135 5spd? Does it give the same beat?
