Hi,
These pictures do bring back memories of my college days in Pune 1987-89. The RX100 ruled the roads then, the only competitors being the Hero Honda CD100, Ind Suzuki and the RTZs.

I learned to ride the bike on an RX100 ( a red one...!!!!) and thus have nostalgic feelings about it. Though I could never own one then. But have managed to get my hands on one of my friends bike now after 20 years as he is out of town and believe me,.....its still an experience to ride one even now.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

A tribute to my Yamaha RX 100 appeared in The Hitavada, Nagpur on 27/11/2001 entitled "My Trustworthy Companion". I would like to proudly proclaim that even 14 years after writing this "Middle", the bike is still as trustworthy like before and is with me. Its into its 25th year now.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

The RX 100 front tyres (2.50 X 18) are in short supply according to tyre retailers. A few low profile makes are available in the market. The manufacturers like MRF and Ceat make such tyres after receiving orders for adequate numbers from their dealers, once in a while.

The tyre size 2.75 X 18 has become universal for the new breed of lighter bikes as of now. This is the standard size for the RX 100 rear tyres. Many including me have upgraded to the tyre size 3.00 X 18 for the rear.

The two stroke lube oils are also becoming rare in the market. Its 4T oil everywhere.

Even the original 6 V electricals of the RX 100 is tough to power with a shortage of the 6 V batteries , that are very rare. I have upgraded to the 12 V electricals and the upgradation is working very well since about ten years.

Meanwhile some pictures of my 1990 bike, nowadays not much used ! Needs lots of TLC now.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

My bike has got its RTO fitness certificate wef 2018- 2023, last year. The M.V. Inspector while certifying it as fit said that he loved riding these and took my bike for a short spin within the RTO office premises.

Meanwhile the bike has got new footwear for its front wheel, replacing the older MRF tyre and tube. This time its a Birla tyre. The company makes the 2.50 X 18 size tyres that are still available, when bigger companies have stopped manufacturing this size of tyres. A few days ago the bike got its TLC, that was quite overdue. I took it our for a spin acouple of times thereafter. Some pictures of the bike are posted. The bike will complete 29 years on the road this coming June 2019. A new seat has been ordered. I will post more pictures with the new seat fitted. The present seat is OE but the foam has hardened over the years.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

BE CAREFUL OF DUBIOUS QUALITY AIR FILTERS

Many bikes and scooters post 1980's and 90's have foam air filter elements. It is soaked SAE 20-50 oil and fitted within the air filter box. Many such two wheeler productions have been discontinued and hence OE spares are difficult to procure.
One must be very cautious about the quality of the foam air filter element if it is not OE.
Recently I opened the air filter box of my RX 100 ( nowadays sparingly used) and found the non OE foam air filter element turning brittle on its own and disintegrated into eight to ten pieces. The filter was replaced about three or four yrs ago.

Earlier OE air filters lasted at least five years and used to be cleaned with diesel/kerosene and refitted after clearing out all the diesel/ kerosene. Pouring about 40-50 drops of fresh SAE 20-50 oil would make the filter work like new.

The non OE air filter's disintegrated condition was something I saw for the first time on this bike in its 32 yr ownership.

Luckily I have got an OE air filter unused stock and have fitted the new air filter last weekend.
Hence one needs to check such air filters regularly, especially if they are non OE.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

The red Yamaha got its PUC certificate valid for six months, yesterday. This is in view of its fitness date for re-registration soon approaching.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

My Yamaha RX 100 got its repairs, wash, servicing done at a local workshop that was nothing less than an excellent job, during late August 2022. Many petty jobs on it were attended to by Mr Pankaj Bante in his workshop. The front fork's ball bearings were replaced and the new job done makes its handlebar more precise. Front and rear brake jobs were done to make these more effective. All the RX 100's need to have very good brakes or else ....? All light bulbs, the horn, dipper, parking light (that runs on the battery), brake light jobs were too done. Nitrogen was filled into its tubes. Some new fuel line pipes were fitted that needed to be replaced - the ethanol blending effect I am sure.

With these jobs done, the bike has a new look now. It got its fitness (2022-2027) done on 29.08.2022. The fitness is now effective from 11.09.2022 for five years.

@anjan_c2007 - A very well maintained bike. Did you do your re-registration process with an agent or all by yourself.

It's always all by myself. I have never faced any hassles other than the one in 2019 cited in post # 208 in this thread:-

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

Very well maintained bike indeed. l am interested in knowing the re-registration process and cost. I have my first bike a pulsar nearing its 20 years life and due for registration next year. I am trying to weigh in the cost to reregister it or scrap it. Local dealers advice to scrap it or offering me throw away prices for it. Personally I want to keep it as it's my first bike from my Dad which got as gift and have kept it well.

Re: My Red Yamaha RX 100

A letter dated 10.06.1994 by me to Escorts Ltd with a few suggestions for their then best selling bike that went with the tagline "You"ve Seen the Crowd, Now Meet the Leader" RX-100 was acknowledged by Mr Charanjit Singh, Executive Vice President and Secretary, Escorts Ltd through his reply dated 17th June 1994. It was received on 16.06.1994 and this reply was posted by them the very next day. The promptness is very praiseworthy !
