Finally front tubeless tyre woes resolved for my Zma
though i would have preferred 90\90\18 over 80\100\18

The "upgrade" is more cosmetic than functional. Apart from the console & rear disc (which should be retro-able on the current ZMAs for about 10Gs, including the rear wheel), the new specs fail to impress.

And oh yes, the much touted performance figures. did anybody look at that company brochure? Factory claimed 126 kmph top whack & naught to 60 in 3.7. This, opposed to the 125 & 3.8 for the old one. Gawd.

What IS welcome though, is the transistor controlled ignition (TCI) that ZMR sports as opposed to CDI on the old one. Better ignition control & reliability, thanks to FI.

What would be worthwile to see is if one would get a ZMR, knock off the fairing tastefully, drop that flab & see the benefits...!

Some things that I found noteworthy:

A) No kick lever. On a Hero Honda, this still might be viable.
B) Battery capacity's gone down to 6AH instead of 7 (old)..!!?!
C) Rim widths are same @ 1.85 front & 2.15 rear...!
D) Oil cooler. Erm. No comments.
E) Fairing mounted RVMs, er...with Hero Honda's infamous plastic quality, I have my doubts WRT its longevity...
F) Rear disc. At last.
G) GRS? Top spec twin-shock suspension, but this bike still deserves a pre-load adjustable monoshock...

All said, only a detailed test shall reveal all. Hopefully, I should have some answers by this week...

P.S - Mods, kindly delete the previous post...thanks..!

Pros
  • good looking clocks,
  • wind protection at high speed?
  • Good quality plastic, tubeless tires, good rear shocks
Cons
  • Not well integrated. Looks like a good old ZMA with a good quality fairing attached to it.
  • Does'nt look like an all new bike
  • Fairing looks bulky (two-tone paint will help) or maybe more graphics
  • 18" wheels and tire are a no no
  • Need 17 with sports tires not the CEAT and Srichakra crap
  • Gold finish on fork and cases clashes with red shocks. Bad combo total mishmash.
  • Badly need a monoshock...otherwise paint it black to hide the rear shocks......not red!!
  • EFI has been dropped by Bajaj and TVS. Unless HH can do miracles it just a waste of money.
  • 20 bhp would have been nice. not enough oomph for a 223 cc bike

Hey guys, can we go on a poll. Now since the ZMA in its new avtar is here. Can we do a poll on the following bikes - P220, ZMA (old) and ZMR (new).

Mods hope this is the right place.

Add the Yamaha FZ and the GS 150 R to the poll, please! I think the FZ really takes the cake among all these bikes.

That is a different segment and should not be compared with these bikes.

Do you mean by engine capacity alone or by class of bikes? I thought all of them were capable tourers.

Gansan, the 150's are not in the same league of P220, ZMA, & ZMR in anyway, be it power, CC, Torque, Price.

Btw the FZ & GS are not tourers & no adding a Fairing(Fazer) doesnt make a city bike a tourer.

As for the Poll, I think its too early to have one, most will vote for P220 for power & price & others for ZMA based on its looks & their experience.

Unless we get a few test rides or atleast detailed official pics, it wont make much sense for a Poll.

+1. The ZMR needs to be tested thoroughly before taking a call.

New Karizama is as good as old and as bad as old, except the Fuel Injection ,which i really doubt will help to boots the sales as Bajaj has come up with non FI bike after launch ing the 220FI earlier.Let's see how markek accepts it,one good thing is the bike has good brand loyality.
1>Instument cluster is really nice touch.
2>Head light resemblance to Gx150 and apache.
3>Why only 17.6 HP if P220 has 21 Hp even having Carb.
4>Max power at 7000 RMP am sure this bike will be very good for highway.
5>They should have upgrade the tyres also but they know without doing upgrades bike will sell.
6>hero honda is very lucky with out much modifications and only after doing stickering job their bikes sale like anything more than 4,00,000 per month, 1 engine 4 versions great cost saving.

You have a big POINT there. There should be a test ride before anyone passes judgement. Lets wait.

ZMA has always been good for touring , My last trip to Dudhsagar was on a Karizma and i enjoyed riding the bike,I crashed once in the junglesluckily with not much damage , but I will think twice going on a tour with the new one , more plastic translates into more repair cost in case of a crash.touring point of view I wonder how better is the new bike then the older version.
126 kmph top whack will not make any difference to me ,unless the bike feels very relaxed at that speeds.
Rear disc break i welcome it , better stopping power ,needed in all terrains
Real Time fuel consumption gauge. Thank you HH
The headlight is the beam better and brighter?

Fuel Injection needed only if it gives a significant increase in mileage and throttle response .
