Rude7: since you are asking for opinions here is mine.

Getting another RE bike about a month after you got a new TBTS seems kind of pointless, even more so when you will not be using either of them from June next year.

So hold off buying a second bike until you finish your studies and come back here. And sell off your TBTS before you go rather than let it be idle.

It is your money and your call though.

Err... Are you planning to split yourself into two?

How would having two bikes help in going on trips?

The only hitch might be that if the OP wants to buy a brand new Electra it might be possible once he comes back after his course in 2011 or something. All he might have to choose from would be a vareity of the latest UCE Royal Enfields.
As for going on trips, the TBTS would do handsomely. Else buy a STD350 if its for the full old school charm and short trips and keep tbts for long trips. You can sell the Tbts when you go and keep the std 350 lifelong.
Buy the latest Uce RE when you return from abroad.

IMO buying a export model in UK as suggested would be ideal , since you can enjoy your new TBTS till june and can look at a classic 500 efi in UK .

you will be the stud in your college ( i assume not many student bikers and that to on a RE )

My 2003 tBird serves me as a daily commute and long ride companion.

You don't need two bikes unless you are planning on loaning one to friends riding along with you.

Exactly my point.

Its a pointless waste of money. The TBTS is a great machine. Enjoy it

Beautiful engineering.

If you are still bent upon buying one, you an go in for the Std. 350 with its CI engine. IMHO it'll bring great resale if you ever wish to sell it off.
