Team-BHP - Bajaj Ct-100 average problem

hi folks,

recently bought a second hand bajaj CT100 2004 for my peon's use (just because i heard its kmpl was good). The bike had clocked 110K.

now even after getting the carburettor etc cleaned & adjusted (authorised bajaj), the bike is not exceeding 30kmpl. Top of it, the bike plainly refuses to start in the mornings. If the choke is applied, it starts and stops immediately when the accelator is pushed.

Would replacing the carburretor help? Any other pointers?..

Get the bike completely serviced and put in new filters if required. A good clean up and tuning should sort out the issue, realastically mileage should be around 60-70 for this bike under normal usage in city traffic.

Also check the tappet adjustment, timing etc. May be a good idea to get a comp check done to see if the health of engine is ok. More than carb check the float valve and jets, if you need to replace then attack those parts. Rest of the carb rarely fails.

Edit: What is timing and how does it effect FE?

Does your bike smokes?does it makes a lot of metal sound from cylinder?if yes then bike needs complete engine overhauling including new pistons and timing, be ready for 6-8K.

phew! 110K ? Think its good to go for engine refurbishment assuming that not much has been done to it recently. Open it up then you know whether to keep the bike or let go.

ct100: we have been getting consistent mileage of around 55kmpl:Frustrati for normal city usage. never remember getting anything above 60. might be some problem this particular piece. but do not expect anything great and also 110K seems a lot of usage for the engine. get the engine checked if it requires rework.

just check the exhaust fumes in the morning when you start the bike if it is having a whitish smoke..that would imply that its time for a engine overhaul.Also you can try replacing air and fuel filters.As jaggu suggested try adjusting/replacing timing belt that could also hamper the mileage big time.

+1 to that. But how did you know it was 110K? (odo will reset after 99999) - Sure it is not 11,000 kms?

Had a CT100 for 2 yrs and 23000 kms - driven carefully, I could eke out 75 km/l. Average was between 55 - 60.

Problem - apart from the engine / air filter mentioned above - could be improper carb setting (running too rich), worn out spark plug (colour of the plug will indicate how the engine is running : black - too rich/oil problem; white - too lean; medium - optimum), sticky clutch.
