Yamaha is all slated to launch the new SZ Model in the 3rd week of February. They had previewed this model at the Auto Expo 2010 but had kept it as a rather low key exhibit. The all new SZ will feature a 150cc powerplant derived from the mill which powers the FZ family of motorcycles. It is equipped with conventional twin rear shocks and drum brakes on both wheels. The Yamaha SZ is expected to come with a price tag of Rs 60,000 (On-Road), which will undercut the price of its competitors like the Unicorn and the Pulsar 150 by a good 5 grand and will pitch it head on against the smaller Pulsar 135. With this vehicle, Yamaha plans to target the 150cc commuter segment which is currently dominated by the Unicorn and the Pulsar 150. This move is contradictory to Yamaha's said plans of sticking to the performance/premium segment of the Indian motorcycle market.

I was told this by the supervisor earlier in December when i took my FZ for the servicing that a commuter on fz's platform will be coming. And guess what it's coming.........

This truly sucks, they could have given an option of disc too considering safety and i truly believe that all 125cc and plus motorcycles should be equipped with disc brakes and should at least have an option to choose

yamaha is back to doing what HH is/was doing, sticker and fairing jobbies, sad

+1 Sheel.Having no disc brakes is like 80s technology.Yamaha ought to rethink this bit.

Pray! I hope they do, but the Expo too showed the motorcycle w/o discs, so i shall remain skeptical till they launch it

Another yawn-inducer ! Lose the disc , lose the mono , put plain console , mainstream tyres and sell for a few grand less . I'd pick any of the other 150s over this .

@DRIV3R , there are pics on Motoroids website : Scoop! Yamaha S2 to be launched in February, 2010 - Motoroids.com

Even a 100/110cc bike/scooter is coming with a disc brake now. Yamaha SZ will set a new record for a 150cc mill (currently in production) without a disc brake currently.

There are only two variants in Achiever, with self start and without self start. Both these variants have disc as standard feature.

Well without disc brake and with price in 60K range this machine will not work at all. People will go and buy Pulsar that is loaded with so many features. Atleast they should offer fron disc brake with 1K-2K premium.
