I am posting this on behalf of my friend Ranjiith.
He wants to buy a Thunderbird owned by his friend right now. This bike was purchased 5 months back and hasn't been used at all (has run only 29 KMs). It is not registered by the owner (it has a TR number).
Doubts here are -
- What are the procedures involved in getting the bike registered on Ranjiith's name?
- Does the temp registration still hold valid?
- What are the expenses involved here in re-registration?
- What all points should be considered for checking health of the bike as it has been idle since 5 months.
vehicle cannot be transferred when under t/r. let the first owner get a permanent registration by paying the fines and taxes and then after he receives the r/c book or smart card, then you can transfer the bike to your name.
about the condition, i dont think much would be wrong with it. however, no warranty will be available since free services have been missed.
Like Hollywood said, the bike needs to be first registered permanently under the initial owner and then transferred to your friend. TR is valid only for a month from the date of registration.
Regarding the condition of the bike, it should be okay overall , but in case the buyer and seller are at unknown to each other, it would be advisable to take it to a reliable mechanic and have it checked briefly before the deal is through.
To get the bike registered you would need to get police clearance report. The rule for late registration of the vehicle requires that, but it could be different from State to State.
