Hi,

I own a 2008 Suzuki Access. Recently, an issue with self start cropped up. The battery had gone dead and was changed. But still the battery was not getting re-charged. The regulator (rectifier), that is used to recharge the battery while the scooter is running was changed. But the issue is still there. The self start doesnt work.

The authorized dealer (Apple Auto, Bangalore) does not have a clue of whats happening, nor do they have the time to look into the issue. Is there any good mechanic/workshop in Bangalore you know who can diagnoise the problem and fix it. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks
Suhas

To me it looks like faulty self motor; if your ride is under warranty then you can have the luxury of replacing the self unit at free of cost. IMHO, get the self motor checked thoroughly or may be isolate the problem in the following combinations
1. Your scooter + your self motor + different battery
2. Your scooter + different self motor + your battery
3. Different scooter + your self motor + different battery
4. Different scooter + your self motor + your battery
You'll most likely isolate the issues in step 2 & 3

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I shall surely tryout these options and update the forum with the outcome.

Thanks
Suhas

Had given the scooter to Advaith Suzuki (South End circle) over the weekend. They changed the wiring. Now, the self start is working fine. Will check for a few more days and update on the status.

Thanks
Suhas

Are you saying the entire wiring went kaput? How many Kms have your Access run? Was the wiring parts next to the self alone changed or the entire wiring unit? Did they explain how did this issue happen or relate & explain the wiring issue to the self motor not working? The reason I'm asking this is because wiring unit is supposed to be working fine & shouldn't go kaput; my 19 year old Yamaha has several twists & cuts, yet no issues with electricals.

With your scooter ON, check the voltges at the battery terminals, it should be greater than 14volts.:)

They didnt change the entire wiring. Only the part related to self start. Actually, the issue started when the headlight was not working properly. Apple Auto changed the headlight switch saying that it had burnt. After that, the starting issue started. Now they have changed only the starter related wiring. The battery is getting charged now, and at idle, it shows 14 V.
