Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Time for my second service.

I am thinking of getting the oil myself than trusting the Bajaj DTSi 10000 (or whatever its called). As per manual the grade should be SAE 20W50.

Since I don't have much idea about the good/bads of this, would like your opinions. I will stick with mineral oil, the bike has barely run 1500 kms since the last service.

Please recommend brands that I can trust. Service manager says I need to bring 1200ml if I change, as opposed to 1050ml in case I stick to Bajaj Oil.

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Fill in Motul oil. That's one of the best you can get in the market. I think it is Motul 5100.

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Got the bike serviced and went ahead with the Bajaj DTSi oil only. Started searching for the other oils now, not leaving to the last moment.

Mileage figures
Total fuel: 49 lts
Total KMs: 1976

That makes it 40.32 km/l !!

Though the last refill gave me 37 km/l (reserve to reserve)

Overall, am a happy guy!

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Great pics and that's some pretty good mileage that you are able to extract from the 200cc mill.

Motul Mineral oil in the 20W40 grade which i have been using on the RTR is simply superb and amazing value for money. But i think the 200cc engine requires W50 oil. I am not sure. So look for the right grade of oil with different brands.

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Friends,

Seeing this thread, I am tempted to buy Avenger 220. But, I have some concerns.

Is this bike good for daily office commute?
What is the avg mileage that can be expected?
Are the Bajaj service reliable as I would like to keep the bike for 10yrs at least?
Does it have a good seating position to avoid any back pain?

Please advice.

Glad if the thread 'tempted' you to look at the Avenger!! :-)

Mileage: 39-40(mine is 200)

Seating: Very comfortable for me, no back pains. Do check out the posture yourself if it suits you. The pillion seat isnt very comfortable though.

Service: Had one bad experience due to unavailability of spare. Regular services are ok.

Hope it helps!

Nice photos there!!!
Did you ever see oil in spark plug threads alone and yet no smoke from exhaust?

Hi petrolhead_chn, never saw oil in the spark plugs, or any smoke from the exhaust. What prompted this question?

I now see what the question means in your perspective. I was in the process of purchasing a used Avenger and I was in a hurry, real hurry! An Avenger that came for sales had oil in its 'spark plug threads' and I wanted to know if that could give any inference on the engine's health.

Today, I managed to get my hands on the Avenger and am glad I purchased it. However I have few questions to be asked and am searching for an appropriate thread.

(By the way, is that a DSLR that you used to click???)

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Dry_Ice, Excellent Photographs!

I want your feedback on the below items:

1. How is the gearing ? My 220's gearing is way too short. It reaches 60 in no time and becomes lazy beyond that.

2. Have you experienced rusting on any of the chrome parts so far?

3. How is the Pillion comfort. The Rider comfort is really good but I feel its terrible for the pillion.

4. What is your experience with the tyres. Have you tried alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

I have seen this problem on a friend's Pulsar - the oil in spark plug threads. They (Bajaj ASC) changed a couple of things and it seems sorted now. But even during this issue, there was no smoke from the exhaust.

Congrats on the purchase, do share the questions you have in mind.

Camera - Yes, a dSLR - Nikon D3100.

Thanks!

1. You are right. I always felt it lacks a gear.
2. Not really.
3. Never been on that seat, but yes, does look uncomfortable.
4. I am on stock MRF Zappers, found them adequate for city riding, even during heavy downpour. Never felt the lack of 'grip'.

BTW, mine is up for sale. After a wonderful time with her, its time to part ways :(. Relocating to a different city.

Re: Bajaj Avenger 200: My First Bike!

Had the old Eliminator with the 175cc Engine, how does your 200 compare to that? Does it make the bike more faster than the old one?

Must admit you have a wonderful eye for photography, makes the bike look even more beautiful.

Thanks! Never got an opportunity to ride the Eliminator. So can't compare. But yes, a purple Eliminator was what I used to drool over earlier.
