That lever is a hand-shifter gear lever, conceived and executed at HB Perfect Service Point, Shivajinagar. It is an easily un-doable matter, with the regular LH lever still present and functioning. The lever itself works pretty smoothly, and isnt much of a hassle even in traffic.

Rksans, no i didnt ride to channapatna. Had to visit a friend who had some issues with his Roadking.

Cheers
Rahul

Thanks for the information. I have seen similar gear shifters in older BSA's and other pre-war bikes. So for this modification, you have to make a hole through the engine side cover or is there any provision in old Jawas?

Glomus, the Jawa 353 didnt have a provision for a hand-gear. This bike has a hole drilled through the clutch cover to bolt the lever to the gear shaft. I'm not sure about the exact modification done, will need to take a look if and when its opened up again.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

So sorry I didn't reply before (considering I opened the thread ). Been buried under at work.

I have mixed feelings about the International Jawa-Yezdi Day. It started off rather nicely. The day was a little overcast and very pleasant. Turned up and met the other Rahul (Sorry we didn't meet RKSans - sometime soon perhaps) and we wandered about. Lots of Roadkings all in a row and a number of Jawas. Nothing really stunning though but pleasant enough. Nice enough people.

Then with a thundering roar about 50 bikes showed up all at once. These are the ones Razzak services. Some nice enough people I'm sure but things changed totally after that. There seemed to be hundreds of mechanics and 'roadside romeos' doing bizarre stuff on the bikes. They started doing their versions of stunts. Burning rubber from tyre spins, crunching metal from exhaust pipes being mangled on the ground in attempted wheelies and spins. It was downright awful! The poor organisers had to beg them to stop since there were about 30 cops just waiting to shut it all down.

A lot of the old-timers who really have pristine bikes stayed away (for good reason) and a lot of the ones we saw looked really bling but sounded like TVS 50s!!! Engines that were shot to death.

In the middle of all this were two or three collectors with some really beautiful 350s and a handful of really lovely Jawas.

I had originally planned on riding to Channapatna. One parked bike falling over in line and denting two others and an idiot who was zipping between lines of parked bikes falling over were enough to convince me that I didn't want to be in the middle of that press when something happens. Besides, by then it had turned pretty darn hot.

Here are a few pics that I clicked. Enjoy!!

The Beautiful

The Awful

Why would anyone take a 350 engine and plonk it on such a monstrosity?!

Would you take a look at that 'wild west' paintjob and that put-together body?!

we call it a 'porcupine head'. saw one very recently. did it come on all models? I thought it was available only on model 'b'.

guys where can I find details of this years meet? I just bought a Jawa and I will be finishing my exams first week of July so I guess it will be a sin for me to miss the meet this year. (I will not be getting my Jawa, I am coming mainly to get ideas for restoration. Might come on the boyfriends RK though)

Lot of nick names for this type of head.

To get details about this years meet, just subscribe this group on facebook "Bangalore Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle Club ", they keep putting up the information there.

rk_sans,
Would suggest you to visit the Mysore Jawa Day organized by Ainsely & his family. Have attended both and feel they do it better with a quiet & friendly atmosphere. Not much of childish talks & acts.
