Pulsar 220 DTSi Mileage issue

Hi guys,
I'm considering to take the P220Dtsi in a few days. Many of my 220 owned friends are saying that the new 220 has a very bad fuel economy. I need to expect atleast 30-35 range. two of my friends took two 220's before two weeks , both of them had their first service and both are getting around 16-22kpl. This made me too worried. And one of them in college told that hes getting an average of 25. Is this the situation of many 220 owner? Ive got to revert back if this is the economy generally. Please help. What do you guys say?

MODS- please merge this thread if any relevant thread on this issue is existing.

16~22 is very less IMO.
Happen to meet a P220 owner in mechanic shop last week and he was complaining the mechanic that the beast delivers him only 30kmpl.
FE depends on the care that we take on the vehicle and our driving style too.
Try getting feedback from others 220 owners in this forum.

Re: Pulsar 220 DTSi Mileage issue

Though I don’t own a P220 but many of my friends have this bike and all get fuel efficiency of around 30-40 KMPL depending on riding style. Those people who are getting 16-20 KMPL FE must be ripping their engine badly which is not good for engine health.

@anupam, leave all worries behind and go for the bike.

Re: Pulsar 220 DTSi Mileage issue

I have been driving the 220 for past 1 year with a mix of city and highway travel. The mileage has been variable and the ranges from approx. 48kmpl (highway drive) to 30 kmpl (city traffic - stop start).

Also, the driving style affects a lot especially its a vehicle that loves to be revved and correspondingly braking has to be harder, atleast in city.

As for the mileage of carb engines, driving style matters A LOT!..

Open the throttle and you wont be surprised to see a figure of 20kmpl from that 220 cc mill.

But, a mix of sedate driving and occasional ripping, will give you somewhere around 30-35kmpl.

I have managed to get a mere 18kmpl from the 150cc mill of the FZ, 24kmpl from the 160cc RTR. but the same bikes have also given ~45 and ~50 under sedate driving.

Re: Pulsar 220 DTSi Mileage issue

I own a P220 Dtsi for 20 months now. I drive too insanely at times, but the below 20 mileage is just rubbish. either they donno how to calculate the mileage OR theres some problem with the bike. Avg riding should fetch u above 35-42, and insane riding, around 30-35.

Here is my log (It has some odd 20's, but that I think is due to some miscalculation. Please go by avg!) :-

And please note my mode of driving is 'rash'. Very rarely I drive sedately and that is when I got those near 40 figures.
I have not used the bike much after June 2010 since I got my Swift D.

Towards the end of the log u can find the ~25 mileage, that is when I moved to Bangalore from Cochin and was using the Bangalore elevated tollway and doing speeds of 140+ DAILY, due to the initial thrill of having a super highway!!!! So that can simply qualify as the worst mileage going full throttle on a highway.

P220 is a very good bike anupam9557. It is definitely understated. I spoke to one Joel in Bangalore and he said it can be easily tweeked to get even more performance to match even the mighty Ninja 250! R15 handles too well, P220 DTSi is VFM and has a super mill within.

PS: Mine is up for sale KL-7 regn.2009 model. done 12k
