Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

@bharat4ever

I will pronounce it Jetta. Others can follow me if they are still calling it Yetta. It is European and its Jetta

Definitely someones over carried away by calling Javier as Yavier which is fine.

I watched most of the ads from the USA and all of them say Jetta, but it's a pain when know it all Indians try to correct you.
Being spent considerable time with Germans, and trying to learn a tad too, my understanding is, though the consonant 'J' in German is almost always pronounced as 'Y' - especially names, there're many exceptions, like Job, Jeans, Jeep, Jazz, Jet... and I just confirmed with a good friend of mine that most of them also pronounce 'Jetta' and not 'Yetta' So go ahead and shout... and it shouldn't matter... as long as you don't call it 'Zetta'

Does anyone know where I could get a soft-copy of the Users/Drivers Manual for Jetta 2015 ? VW India site suggest to use an app called i-Own, but this is not available in Apple AppStore or iTunesStore anymore.

I think a separate Manual comes for HU/Entertainment Unit.

Anyone know if the official door skid plates are available at dealers? The rubber/plastic and metal ones?

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

So finally bit the bullet and the product is at home. Installation is going to happen only on April 13th But here are initial pictures and a short write up for potential buyers.

DS811

- Very well made yet shows quality you can expect paying fraction of what you would pay for RCD510
- The knobs and buttons are pretty much just above low grade. I have to say mid way between low and RCD510
- Screen is big and gorgeous
- Connectivity is plenty including DGA and DTV
- Supports three cameras that can be launched via both reverse gear as well as a button
- Supports DVR connectivity
- Supports USB and Phone mirror link which is a great add on to use google maps on the screen.
- Can use the screen to control your phone which makes it handy as well
- Supports TPMS.

Here are some pictures of the unit and its plethora of connectivity.

Installation does look simple plug and play unless you are adding multiple camera, DVR etc where you will have to plan for wiring etc.

For anyone planning to get this, i think you should. Its worth the price you pay and is far more functional with Can inputs than any other comparable device in the market.

Lets hope it works

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

More Pictures of connection wires supplied.

- check out the multiple camera connection that the device supports
- AUX support is also provided
- Supports disc in as well. I think this is more like adding an external disc player. No wires supplied.
- FM antenna not supplied. Need to check that.
- Two USB connections in the back but only i set of wire for both USB stick and Mirror play(Check picture to differentiate between phone link and actual USB memory stick)
- Full RCA out supplied.
- Also picked a TPMS device.
- This is straight forward. A blue tooth based sensor is attached into the tyre mouth. The stability or security of this pin is questionable. May end up having to remove it everytime we park somewhere.
- The TPMS also directly connects with the device.

Hope this helps someone take decision.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Congrats! Waiting eagerly for a report post installation.
In the meanwhile I have the following questions.

1. What was the final price?
2. Did you get any discounts? Was a lot of haggling involved to get the discounts?
3. What were the customs duties?
4. What was the mode of shipping and how long did it take to arrive?
5. Did you manage to get Sygic maps?

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Equally excited bro. Will definitely post a detail installation video or atleast pictures. Not the type to record or take pictures of each and every step but will do my best.

I may get some help from a known guy but lets see. Hoping things will be fine. I am excited for the DVD player which will keep my Son on the car seat when he gets into the car. I think if we can source original Sygic India map file we can even request them to help us build a map file customized for DS811.

I am not selling the RCD510 or the BT module yet because i want to see how this works out

Yeah, Don't sell the RCD 510 just yet, Use the DS811 for a couple of days, Get to know the system well, I am also very eager to know the real time boot time for the system once you unlock the car and start the engine, More information on this would be appreciated.

Took delivery of the 2.0TDI Comfortline today. Was pleasantly surprised to see an MIB 2 system and I'm pretty sure the car has 8 speakers.
