Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

The usual Jetta disaster has struck again today. I had gone out for some work and when i tried to crank the car - it refused. I called up the RSA and the guy came within 15min to jump start the car. I have reached home and parked the car. This is the battery which was replaced under warranty in Jan 2017. So the first one lasted 1Yr 2 months & now the replaced one has lasted 1Yr 8 months.

Planning to replace with Amaron Flo today.

Is the issue with the car or the battery? I mean how could 2 batteries die so soon in the same car?

Its a known problem with the OEM Jetta battery - it doesnt last for more than 1.5 years or so. First one was replaced under warranty so i was stuck with OEM supplied battery. This new Amaron should last 3-4 years, it anyways has a 24+24 months warranty.

DPF Regeneration

Has anyone ever witnessed DPF regeneration process?
I understand that there is a logo that glows on the dashboard, but apart from that are there any other tell tale signs?

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

My 2014 Highline DSG AT completed 4 years. Just came back from 4th service. The service was a bit expensive due to gear box oil change. Costed 27 K. The first 3 have been in the 13-15K range.
Car has been mostly trouble free in the 4 years and 42K kms so far. OEM battery went out at around 3 years and replaced it with amaron battery. One airbag sensor went kaput and was replaced at a cost of 3K (extended warranty does not cover sensors, I was told).
New michelin tires at 40,000 km. The OEM tyres had a few more kms in them but I started to experience frequent punctures and decided to replace them. Asked service center to check on brake pads during the 4th service and they said it was fine and does not need replacement. The brakes do make some squealing noise sometimes in stop/go traffic but service center said no issues with the brakes as such.
Mileage has never dropped below 10 kmpl even in bangalore's mad traffic. Best mileage was around 17 kmpl in a highway run. Very good car to drive, rock solid stability at highway speeds. Suspension is a bit firmer that I would like resulting in a lot of thuds in the potholed holes that I would like.
Overall, very happy with the purchase. If only VW ASS was better to deal with, I would happily go and buy the tiguan or passat when it comes time to replace.

This is what sedate driving gets you :-)
Not bad for a 2 L turbocharged diesel.

Fellow BHPians,

I need some immediate help. I will like to go for Momo revenge 17 inch alloys, and Momo/Michelin PS4 R50, 225.

QQ - In case I do decide to upgrade to R17, is 225, R50 too big a tyre size for Jetta, and thus I should stick to R45?

Else, I stick to 16 inch alloys, and then go for R50 Michelin PS4?

I suggest you stick to 16 inch rims only. The Jetta already has a slightly firm ride and 17 inch rims will lead to the car crashing through potholes.

You can surely opt for 16 inch PS4s. Infact, you can even lower the profile slightly if you want in case of 16 inch rims (although I believe the stock profile is just perfect).

My advice would be that you go for PS4s in the stock profile and size. It will give you the best ride and handling balance.

Quite surprised to see that!
25 kmpl is diesel territory, to get that out of a petrol engine is astonishing.
Max I got from the 1.8TSI (AT) was 16 kmpl.

I consistently get 18Kmpl on highway runs, provided I am able to maintain good speed.

However, the mileage of the Jetta drops significantly with reducing speed. Bumper to bumper traffic, I get 7Kmpl

All figures (including the best of 25Kmpl) are with aircon on and all windows rolled up.

Strongly advice not to change the tire/rim size. I have undergone the same temptation and thankfully stuck to the default. Jetta remains to be the number one car still in its segment on the fine ride and handling combination, challenged only by the Octavia RS in its new avatar. Don't spoil it!!

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Hi All!

My used car hunt began 3 weeks ago.

I TD'd the Linea T-Jet, Civic AT, Laura L&K AT and GT TSI.

I have background of driving regularly the Civic, Ritz, i10 and Rapid DSG.

My take

Civic - No
Since I already had a CIVIC, I did not want to sail on the same boat again. It has low end torque issues either.

Linea - No
Good car, but some how did not please me. Not an 'Upgrade' from Civic kin of feel. Also, services even from 3rd party isn't that great. My friend with a Punto is not so happy with service but definitely happy with the car. So, I was a little skeptical about this one

GT - No
Great car but No, because it is a Fuel Hogger, I always thought I would not need a petrol car for my usage. Also me, ended up munching ~40K kms on my Civic in one year. Also, the space is no match for Civic/Rapid.
And now after countless hours of R&D here, reading many threads of ownership reviews I thought of buying a Laura (or Jetta) with DSG. Nothing was close to the happiness I got when I TD'd them.

If I do not get a DSG I decided to go for MT anyway.

Did not find any good vehicles in my range. Either they quoted too much or less expensive ones had run 1L kms or more.

After much calls and help from friends in searching I have listed the below.

Thanks to valhallen.282 for helping me out in the search brother.
  1. Jetta CL MT, 2012, 44,000KMS. Asking Price 8L
  2. Jetta CL MT, 2012, 78,000KMS. Asking Price 6.5L
  3. Laura L&K PD 1.9 AT, 2007, 68,000KMS. Asking price 4,75,000

I have booked a Jetta CL 2012 with 44K Kms done on Odo from a dealer for a final 7.2L.

I tried a lot and did not find any Jetta in an around for the same price. All of them are around 90K. This one ticked all my boxes.
  • Sedan
  • Space
  • Reliability(LOL, with a German. But but I think I can manage)
  • Looks
  • Comfort seating
  • Steering mount controls (was badly missed in my Civic)

I will update you all once I get the car which is hopefully 3-5 days.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Ayyoo!

Guys, there has been a mistake. It is a second owner on papers.

And the cost it still the same. Out of many cars I do not even remember which car had how many owners.

But since it is a low mileage car I did not feel like letting it go.

Here are some snaps I took today. Little bit of dents here and there but I will fix them going forrward.

Not bad. A year back the prices I was seeing in Madras were much higher, almost 2L more than the prices you posted for a 2010-11 CL/HL MT Another one had Polo on the Parivahan site

Yes Narayan, This was pure luck getting at this price for this mileage.

Just see how the prices are. And in Bangalore bargaining is a pain. At least for me.
