Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Hi all,
I have 2012 CL Jetta. I was thinking about changing the head unit to a touchscreen unit with navigation. Which is the best plug & play unit? Thanks in advance.

Check this thread there are some good information about the options. RCD510, DS811 are couple of good options to start with.

DS811 is touch and go. If it works it works else its a PITA to get help and support and updated software. The Chinese company can give competition to customer service of all Indian Companies.

I think you also have a CL, but I see in your thread that your car came with a RCD 510 unit. Mine came with a vary basic unit (probably RCD 310). I would like to order the DS 811 but really nervous if it doesn't work. Let me think about it. Thanks.

Check out the RCD 330G Plus. Cheap, has a better resolution display, capacitive touch works as good as a smartphone, has a built in Bluetooth module. The climatronic and OPS display works.

Downside - does not show the music info, contacts on the cluster's MFD.

Aliexpress China, eBay Germany/UK, ECS Tuning US.

What's wrong with the stock pedal inserts?

Dear Ganesh,

VCDS autoscan report does not show the BCM separately..

I would try Aliexpress. Actually I am used to slide my shoe over the pedals while moving from Brake to Accelerator (and clutch to dead pedal) in most of my previous rides and these rubber inserts are resisting that. Metal inserts are slippery if the footwear is wet or muddy, but I feel more comfortable with that rather than sticky pedals.

Do check Aliexpress. The pedals are not OEM and are made by third party manufacturers, the fit may not be perfect and you'll need to use some sort of glue to hold them in place, judging by the reviews of pedals sold for other cars. But customers are happy as they are a lot more cheaper compared to the original pedals which retail for close to 200 USD.

Do note that you'll need to check how to remove the accelerator pedal off the organ type pedal assembly. It may not be as easy as prying and removing the original one and inserting the replacement. Please check.

Lastly, AFS is a totally independent module. You can actually install the BiXenons without AFS and just calibrate the leveling using the leveling screws. With this you will lose on the automatic leveling and dynamic cornering. But you can always install AFS later and add the feature.
oh god, now i see why there is so much difference between treandline and highline when buying new. All of a sudden that 3 lac difference seems very much justified for the features offered.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Hi,

It's been long time... all good with my Jetta... well until last week...

Both my wiper-blades came off the metal arm within 30mins when I was driving in Kerala last week, and it was raining cats and dogs... the left one flew off when I was at a speed of 20Kmh (now you know what's rain in Kerala)... I managed to drive with right one (driver side) another 30Kms until I reached my Dad's place... and I realsied the right one also had broken (the rubber). Not sure how the left one flew away - maybe someone tried to steal it and was loose fit, or the clips gave up.

I couldn't get either a OEM or Bosch in Palakkad. So I had to drive back with left wiper-hand wrapped in thick cotton. Tried couple of places in Whitefield, and none of them had the Jetta fit Bosch model. One guy offered Hella for Jetta which comes with adaptors for various cars/models, but that didn't fit Jetta (he agreed to take it back).

Finally, I could source wipers from Amazon and replace them. These wipers are exact fit for the Jetta and the problem is completely resolved.

Chethan, the Trico model doesn't seem to fit mine (2016 Jetta), at least by the looks of the clips. No photo of the adaptors. i don't want to be the in same state as with Hella today - had 6 adaptors but all of them were 2-3 mm wider than the OEM model.

What are my options ? OEM, was suposed to be sub-standard, so want to go for Hella or Bosch. Anyone have specific details what I can buy ?

If you have the clip that will retain the rubber, you can simply swap the rubber from a hella or bosch into the OEM wiper frame itself. Thats what i have done and will continue to do.

Its a 15 min DIY with effort and 15 minute without much effort.

Trico model suits Jetta MK6. If you are still in doubt, please post a picture of your wipers and I will confirm. 😊

Re: Volkswagen Jetta : Test Drive & Review

Hello folks,

I have seen many Jettas MK6 (pre-facelifted) with the tail light part which is integrated into boot not working (usually either side). I always thought the owner might be unaware of it hence didn't get it fixed however couple of days back, I became the victim myself.

Couple of days back, MID showed error "Please check driver side tail light" & a yellow warning symbol popped up in the console as well. (I will upload images soon). It appeared after I drove her through the water puddle of approx 5"-6" deep & 3-4 feet in the length in reverse. (Coincidence?)

Has anyone faced the similar issue? My SA told me over telephone that most probably it won't be covered under extended warranty :( If not, what repair cost I am looking at?
