Not to my taste. Plus, the shiny black roof now matches the gloss black B-Pillar.

Looks good GTO, loved the black wheels, roof wrap and the subtle rear spoiler. But I am not a fan of the front skirt/lip. I think it gives it too much ricer look and sticks out too much. The OE bumper had 2 fang like protrusions which were really classy.

Also pls. get the bulbs changed in the headlights to something better as well as LED DRL's. all you need to do is order the DRL LED and 4 Philips X-treme vision bulbs of same OE wattage. No change in anything.

Spot on- They claim the EA189 engine to be around 177bhp at wheel and about 420nm. I had the same remap from them on my Laura and it was absolutely flawless! Still performing really well with the new owner (also a Bhpian) and almost 25k km done. I personally found the engine to perform far far better with the remap than the stock map.

Can't argue with that. Even the original look is nice.

Yeah, so far, it seems to be quite an all-rounder tune. No disadvantage at all.

What difference does it make if a car is discontinued, as long as it's not so old that part supply will be a problem? All the 3 cars I own are discontinued (well, the Sunny is on life support). The Jetta is a popular model worldwide and there is a good number of them on Indian roads too. You shouldn't have a problem with spares for the next couple of years.

Hi Vid6639, I am seriously considering upgrading headlights on my Jetta, though mine is trendline so no DRL. Can you suggest a good source to procure these? I checked amazon and other online sources but not reliable enough. Phillips x-treme visionplus H7, also i have no idea about current prices.

I read in reviews that the life expectancy of these is about a year only. Hence i am interested in putting them in Low beam only. What is your suggestion?

This site is the best and free international shipping as well. You can install both low and high beam. Life is lesser than OE but the low beams usually go first since you use low beam 90% of the times. Highbeams will usually last long.

Besides you can always go back to OEM bulbs spare when they blow. They are not difficult to replace.

Was not expecting to be posting again so soon on this forum, unfortunately lady luck was definitely not shining on me today.

I usually do not let valet folks park my Jetta, made the mistake this afternoon, as we were getting late for a function in a restaurant. When I came back the valet offered to get the car, to which I agreed as I had 2 kids in tow.

He had parked the car next to the kerb on the road, it was the last car before a left turn to get to the restaurant, as the valet turned left he underestimated the kerb length, and ended up side-swiping the kerb. There was a heart-wrenching crushing sound.

The damage is clear in the pictures attached (taken in my parking), my heart bled seeing the damage, but then what can we do after all, whats done is done. Had to let the valet go with a mild word. Lessons learnt, never trust anyone with your car.


Anyway now for the queries:

1. How bad is this, anyone have this kind of experience earlier? Can this be fixed, how much will it cost, will it be good as new? The doors are undamaged, its only the base bar fortunately, due to the height of the kerb.
2. Will insurance cover it? I do have zero dep insurance after all.
3. Should I visit the VW body shop, or go to a local friendly garage. Do 3M etc do these kind of jobs?
4. In my evaluation it will required putting the base bar back into shape with a complete paint job of the bar, am I missing something? Could there be some more serious damage?

Sad to see what happened.
1. This happened to my ex car, Cedia and not difficult to repair. I can't see if there is any damage to the doors. That's another story.
2. Insurance should cover it, for my car they did. They would make you to go to the spot and explain, take photos etc.
3. This depends purely on your judgement. For me the dealer did it real fast and restored 'as new'.

Yeah I cannot see any damage on the doors either, I might say I was lucky, if thats a good thing!

So, in all probability the valet will now refuse that anything happened under his watch, would insurance still work, if they feel its my fault? Also what were the cost damages on your side, trying to understand how big a hole this will dig in my pocket, if insurance does not cover it.

I have never done this, so I go to the VW bodyshop show them this, and tell them I have insurance, or should I call the insurance firm beforehand? I have zero dep insurance from Bajaj Allianz.

- Calling insurance guy is better, as they have tie up with VW and their subcontractor shops. Otherwise, they might put you in spin asking thousand questions.
- My total cost was just over 9k, including tin work and paint job.

I called a contact at the VW workshop, he said claim may work, did not give any clarity without seeing the car. Also he said the car may have to kept there for 8-10 days! I do not really trust the VW guys, too many bad experiences. Will wait for some more inputs from members, maybe first hand dealing with this kind of situation.

My concern is if I call the insurance people and say I banged the car, will they right away reject the claim? And secondly if they point me to a local garage, will I get the same quality of repair and paint job?

Thanks for the input, costs may be a lot higher for VW Jetta, lets see.

1) Similar thing happened on my previous vRS. It can be fixed. They will probably replace the side skirt which is hit. You won't be able to tell, especially if its done at a good VW centre or a good independent bodyshop.

2) Of course, that's what it is there for.

3) Go to VW if using insurance, the claim process will probably be easier.

In such accidents the VW body shop will cut the damaged portion and not the entire side beam, and weld in a new one. You won't notice any difference after the job is done. Have seen something like this happen on team bhp itself.
