Re: BMW 530d : Test Drive & Review

I have another neat feature to add to the list of features. Once you pair your blackberry with the car, you can have the car read out your e-mail and sms messages. You can see your calendar and task lists on the center console screen. Very very neat.

Cheers

Re: BMW 530d : Test Drive & Review

Manvirr,

I guess that's something my car does not have :( I wish instead of the useless TV tuner I had the communication package.

Bmw needs to market this considering Mercedes has like half page ads on their comand online.

Regards,

I'm quite sure it would have it. I think even my car has it. When you open the sms there is an option to read it out. Will double check and tell you.

akshay1234,

All 5's made before Jan 2011, and perhaps other models too do not have this feature, 2-3 other mates who have got the 5 and the 3 in last few months have it, My car does not even have bluetooth audio streaming! :(

What I'm keen on is can you go online? The new Mercedes COMAND systems can go online, it's pretty cool,

Regards,

Oh that is quite odd then. Nope I don't think I can go online, that is something which I don't think any of the BMWs in India offer.

Re: BMW 530d : Test Drive & Review

I have been seeing the COMAND ads by mercedes in the past few days.. One ad mentioned that it is a limited period offer on the C

What exactly are they offering in this new COMAND system? Please enlighten me guys, as I really haven't been able to locate the changes.

Their earlier system was spartan at best compared to MMI & iDrive

It's because our cars are pre september '10 builds, we really got the short end for buying in the 1st lot.

The BMW 5 series range has been upgraded for the year 2012 with the following,

1. Drive dynamic control in basic models also
2. Auto start stop function
3. Eco mode
4. A new rear seat design, according to them it improves on comfort.
5. Dynamic experience control.
6. 525d now has a 2 liter engine and 530d is now updated to 560nm.
7. New alloys for 520i, a better design.

0-100 for 525d is 7 seconds and 530d is 6 seconds,

Pricing is pretty much like 2011.

Regards,

Hello

It's a 2 liter 1995cc 4 cylinder unit producing 218 bhp and 450nm of torque, and gets to 100 in 7 seconds flat.

Price in my city is 43.5 lac ex showroom.

It's a global change and while the capacity is lower I believe it's equally good at performance and a lot better with fuel. Not saying more displacement was bad but we gotta live with what is being offered and this will do the job perfectly well and for the rest there always is the 530d.

Good to see BMW upgrading their range regularly. The adjustable dampers on all models will be appreciated by many, what is the price rise overall?

Is the 2l in the 525 going to be used in other cars too? Also the 530d engine would have been upgraded to 258bhp right?

You mean new alloys for 523i. EDIT - I guess not, seems there will be a 520i now.

Hello,

Forgot to mention the 523i is no more, and is replaced by the 520i, a wise move really as the same engine is shared across the board and will help manage inventories a lot better, love the new rear seat, a good addition,

The price difference at least in my city is pretty much nothing, like I said its similar to 2011 levels, and the new 2l from the 525d is being planned for the 3 also but will update with all 3 info once the board decides as of now the base is planned to be 320i but at the upper end a lot is not decided and will only be done in next few weeks before its Indian press launch soon, just like how the F10 was launched.

530 is now 258bhp yes, And a lovely 560 nm of torque, should be a wonder to drive.

I still wish they added comfort seats up front one of my biggest problems with all ckd cars in the segment,

Regards,

Some more information on the additions, the below is from BMW.com

Driving Experience Control.

How would you like to drive today? Driving Experience Control fitted as standard makes the difference. Adapt the BMW to meet your needs – or those of your passengers.

Switch to SPORT Mode and experience pure driving dynamics: the engine responds more spontaneously to the accelerator and the eight-speed sports automatic transmission Steptronic lets the engine rev high before quickly changing up a gear. At the same time it tightens the setting of the steering. In the SPORT + Mode, the Dynamic Stability Control allows controlled drifting to the limit. Optional Adaptive Drive or Dynamic Damper Control additionally provides you with COMFORT+ Mode. It ensures a particularly comfortable ride and effectively compensates for any unevenness of the road surface.

The ECO PRO Mode allows the BMW to drive with improved consumption figures. Transmission, heating and cooling systems are geared to maximum efficiency and recommendations during the journey indicate how fuel consumption can be reduced still further. The ECO PRO Mode supports a markedly relaxed driving style with optimised fuel consumption at low engine speeds. Depending on driving style, savings in fuel consumption of up to 20%* may be achieved.

The 530 is a real power machine for an average c segment user like me, once had the privilege of driving an E60 530 for a long drive. I should say the torque, acceleration and the hi speed stability just blew me away. Not to mention it did prove quite fuel efficient with around 10+ kmpl of diesel throughout the journey.

P.S: I was too scared of playing around with the car so did use the sport mode only once, don't remember if it had the eco pro mode act. thanks if any of you experts could enlighten .
