Thanks for the response SDP :) What about #1 ?? Do you experience this in your vehicle as well?

1. I hear a small rattle/clanking sound inside the rear hatch door. I noticed this on the delivery day itself, and the SA claimed its a lock mechanism and is present in all vehicles. Another owner friend also confirmed this, but seems weird.

Left #1 out as I believed your friend's understanding is correct. Please try the following: open the hatch door completely, stand next to it and press the lock button from the remote. You willl hear the locking mechanism of the hatch door turning. (With hatch door wide open, most likely you would be able to 'see' it as well.) See if this is the same sound that you hear from the driver's seat.
The hatch door also houses the reflectors. Please open that compartment and check if by any chance those are not fastened well and causing the rattle.

where did you get the illuminated scuff plates from? also I thought so that the high security IND mark plates would be much cheaper outside. so will mostly get it from outside. but I am not sure if similar illuminated scuff plates are available outside. |

I have seen illuminated scuff plates on Ebay for about Rs. 1650. However, I did notice that they have some minor wiring that needs to be done to ensure they turn on when the doors are opened. I am not sure if a non dealer set up will void warranty. Don't want an external vendor, fiddle with the delicate XUV electronics :). Hence am planning to go with the dealer version even though I have to be an additional 2K.
Also for everyone's info, I inquired about the AWD version in hyderabad and they don't have a test drive vehicle yet. Was informed that they might get one in the next 2 weeks. However, if I need to go with the AWD, then I will need to cancel and book the AWD, and will have to wait 2-3 months for delivery. I have decided to go with the W8, FWD. Should be making all the payments tomorrow and plan to pick up the vehicle on October 18th (supposed to be an auspicious day). I wanted to take delivery immediately, as I see no point in waiting after making full payment. But then, I did not want to fight a battle against this with the home ministry :). So if all goes well, 18th should be the D-day.
The dealer is very reluctant to let me take insurance from outside. I had a long discussion with the VVC folks here in hyderabad and after much persuasion they wanted me to send a mail to their manager and seek approval. I sent out the email, lets see what they say. Might need some help from fellow bhpians if the dealer acts funny.
The sales guy is also insisting on the underbody treatment which he says will be from Wruth and will have a warranty of 3 years for 7K. Is this price Ok?
Also, quick question for others who might have opted for a loan. We got a zero processing fee offer from HDFC, but learnt today that we have to pay an additional .05% for stamp duty? Is this a standard charge?

When I went for my vehicle the TVS Guys @ Cochin did not insist on taking the insurance from them. I got a good quote from Royal Sundaram and purchased the same online. If the dealers @ your place is so insistent on buying insurance from them, tell them to match the qoutes with others.
Get the underbody, if necessary from outside, it is pretty cheap. You can use Wurth or 3M. I opted for 3M and it cost me 2.5K. 7K is too much.
I processed my loan from SBI and they offered me ZERO processing charge. You can bargain with your bank and ask for a waiver too, quoting SBI deals which should be pretty same all over india.

D&D, COngratulations on your delivery date. btw, when is your booking date. You know my issue right regarding delivery. Booking date: 8th August and Delivery date: Feb 27th 2013.
Regarding scuff plates, you can still buy from ebay and any other place and get them fixed by the showroom people. Even the scuff plates offered by dealer has wiring which has to be connected to dome light, You don't have to cut any wires to connect it to dome light. It is a very basic procedure.
I have also booked from VVC Motors and have told them already that I am taking insurance from outside. They haven't objected me for any like insurance from outside, accessories from outside.
For the underbody coating, you can choose 3M for 4500 INR from 3M showroom near kavuri hills or wruth from Mazda Motors in Secbad for 3500 INR or Waxoyl from Paramount car services in Sainikpuri for 4000 INR. All of them would give you 2 - 3 warranty against any corrosion.

Thanks Vasuki! I will push the dealer on the INsurance.
Wow, 2.5K is real cheap. I thought it was about 4.5K outside. Anyways, let me rethink.
On the Loan part, even HDFC is offering me ZERO processing fee. However, they claim that a stamp duty needs to be paid to the government for registering the loan application. This is apparently 0.05% of the loan amount. I checked with another bank agent and got the same input. Just want to ensure I am not getting ripped here

@Balenoboy, I booked on July 11th and was provided a tentative date of 3-4 months and after a month was informed about the CPD of October 16th. In fact, i had a bit of a strange experience with the dealership. When I visited them late in September they said the vehicle would arrive a few days ahead of schedule and asked me to plan delivery around 10th. I got a call from them on the 1st stating that the vehicle had been dispatched. Then when I visited the showroom on 5th asking for details, they said they were unable to track and left me saying that it will definitely be delivered before dussera. I again called on 8th and told them that I had the finance arranged and would expect them to deliver on or before 16th (their CPD). Later in the afternoon, i got a call from them and they claimed that vehicle was already on route and would be arriving the same evening (8th) and asked me to make the payment. I found that a bit strange.. Wonder how at the mention of finance, they suddenly were able to find the vehicle. Anyways, I did not want to complain...
Your idea of ordering from ebay seems like a good one. Let me plan that and then have one of the Showroom guys install it... Also, the showroom folks have the black 3G Kagu mats, but are quoting Rs. 8500. I guess it should be available for Rs 7500 outside..
Good luck with your efforts to try and secure your vehicle earlier. I don't understand why the waiting period would have increased.. Maybe there have been a lot of booking since August/September or M&M might have suddenly started focusing on exports. Either way a 6 month waiting period seems strange. Did you book a specific color that is not mainstream?
btw: I also had a brief interaction with Saurabh Khare (the M&M relationship guy) on the accessory pricing (dealers in Bangalore are quoting Rs 9500 for the side step, where as, our dealers in hyderabad are quoting Rs. 15000). He said he was new to M&M and would work things out. He asked for some details and I shared both the quotations. Its been a week, and when I followed up, he mentioned that he is awaiting inputs from HO. I wonder what HO would do. I guess I am going to complain on the XUV wall again..
While driving to work today, I was playing music over bluesense from my Blackberry and discovered that the 'List' function was not available in this mode. Any other owners noticed this? Might be specific to handset. Please check.

Yup its doesnt work with my Samsung S3. You have to scroll from your phone, though you can skip songs from the steering wheel controls.

I do have a couple of small questions:
1. I hear a small rattle/clanking sound inside the rear hatch door. I noticed this on the delivery day itself, and the SA claimed its a lock mechanism and is present in all vehicles. Another owner friend also confirmed this, but seems weird.
4. How do I turn off the 'Mahindra Rise' animation that happens at the 'start'?

1. SA is correct. It's some kind of magnetic mechanism that sound like that.
4. You can turn of that sound of mahindra rise but not that splash screen.
Just saw an ad for XUV again today in TOI. I don't understand why are they advertising it now. Are they not satisfied enough with 3-4 months of waiting period. Or is it a prestige issue that unless your cars have a waiting period of 6 months of more, you are not seen as successful?

They dont want to loose customer attention as the new Safari Storm is around the corner. I really dont believe they have much to worry about as the Storm is a belated and a sad attempt made by Tata at a time when they need a brand new Global SUV ! XUV will continue to sell well and probably even gain from an AT transmission expected in a year or so.

XUV has basically changed perception for mahindra brand. So I guess they will continue using it as a brand building exercise, not only in the eyes of consumers but also investors.
