I have decided to go with the black colour XUV 500 W8 and will place the order on Monday. The dealer is GSP Mahindra Gurgaon. He mentions he has a black XUV available - the manufacturing month is March. For any other colour he mentions a waiting period of 15-20 days is there.

I have asked them for a price list of accessories with the ones I am planning to buy colored green. I am attaching the list in case some one else wants to compare the rates as well. I have these questions related to accessories-

- Does these rates sound reasonable? Will buying them from after market make more sense?
- Which floor mats should I choose?
- What is a side step bracket - is it the rubber covering that I have seen in many side steps?
- Will the reverse camera output integrate with the reverse parking sensor already inbuilt in the infotainment system i.e., will it keep telling me the distance along with showing me the video
- Do I need seat covers ? I read in one of the threads that Mahindra says that they have designed seats to be used without one - why would they sell it at their dealer then?
- Should I get teflon coating for paint protection/anything like that.

- Are there any recommended shops for after market accesories and sound upgrades in Gurgaon/Delhi/Meerut


Otherwise, it is ok to buy a month old manufactured XUV right? Or should I ask him to get a new one (15-20 days wait)

I will now go through the PDI checklist thread and will shout for help if I have any doubts. Any tips before taking a new car delivery? (This is the first time I am buying a car so please do not hesitate to share the simplest/silliest of information :thumbs up)

The rates quoted for the accessories seem to be reasonable. Also, remember that wiring modifications from outside the dealership might void the warranty claims. Most of the other accessories does not have this issue.
I got the transparent floor mats free from the dealership. I liked this one because it more or less covers the entire floor and is made of plastic, which helps in rain, mud etc. It does not get soiled like the carpet ones.
I don't think they mean the rubber covering as the side steps from the dealership comes with those. Better check it up with the dealership.
Yes, the display will show you the camera feed as well as the distance from the sensors. You will also get the beeps.
If you are buying a W8, it comes with side and curtain airbags. The side airbags are housed in the front seats and it is clearly written on the seat that installation of seat covers are not advised. So, please do not put seat covers and jeopardize the proper functioning of a safety feature which you have paid for. Also understand that the accessory list is for all XUV variants and not only for W8. You can also see alloy wheels and wheel cover in that list. W8 does not require those.
Better to do it for paint protection, but not mandatory.
A month old car should be OK, if you do not find any issues with the car. Please go through the TBHp PDI checklist which covers most of the things you should look into, before you give the thumbs up. Best of luck :)

Not to spoil your enthusiasm in choosing the black color, however I need to caution you that the car interiors will become very hot when parked under sun. I too chose black for my first car because it was classy, but after experiencing the heat, I decided not to buy black again.

Well, I feel like taking the plunge right now. Would be helpful though if you could tell me any color/shine maintenance tips which you did differently for your black car compared to others.

I am highly inclined towards booking a W6 and was talking to one of my friends. I was reminded of the braking issue, that we believe has been largely addressed in the 2013 upgrade.

I presently drive a Swift Diesel and I am quite aggressive in driving. I have been advised to check on the braking and high speed cornering aspects, before I finalise. I typically drive around 2K km /month and most of it is on highways, with speeds mostly in the range of 120 - 140 kmph. On the Swift, I am very sure of the vehicle behaviour. On XUV, Overdrive review states that, we'll never know which way the tyre would go, when cornering at high speeds.

Can the recent buyers of XUV comment on the driving confidence please.

The braking of XUV is definitely not great as others. I have used Scorpio as well as Wagon R. The braking is little late compared to my earlier vehicles. On corners, there is a big difference in driving style of a car like swift and XUV or compared ones, as it has body roll plus its a tall vehicle. I would say these are things you will get used to, the drive and vehicle is very good. Go ahead and make the choice.

The braking is a bit spongy during the first half of the pedal travel. But I do not think the braking is inadequate. I had a panic braking situation during my recent visit to my hometown. An auto driver decided to stop bang in the middle of the road to say hello to somebody and I had to stand on the brakes to avoid hitting him. The brakes and the ABS worked fine and I steered away without further issues.
But, there is a small advice which I would like to present here. One should understand the capabilities and weaknesses of the car he/she is using and drive responsibly. An SUV will not have the agility of a sedan or a low slung hatchback. Within the envelop, from my experience, the XUV is a pretty decent vehicle.

Why don't go for DIY noodle mat? It will give good saving as well as you will get good color options.

In my opinion don't go for teflon coating instead of that go for paint sealing from a good detailer.

I did not take any special steps to maintain the black color. However, there is a very detailed 'detailing' thread, which would be a good read (link here).

I would recommend paint protection.

I would recommend to go for Paint Protection. Look out if there are any 3M outlets for the same.

I think 3M would be the best option to get your car protected with paint protection, under body treatment and so on.

If there are no 3M outlets, visit a best outlet who does all this job perfectly:)

Are you talking about the Scotchgard Paint protection film? As a rough estimate, how much will it cost?
