Thanks for the great review. Indeed a useful and comprehensive review. Being an owner of mahindra xylo, I always have high regards for their "value for money" products. However, aftersales service has been disappointing, I must say. Hope with the launch of XUV 500, mahindra will see to that the premium customers won’t get disappointed with their after sales services.

Punched holes on the floor of a brand new XUV? No problem with silt seeping in and promoting rust? (suggest to get the bottom treated with rust-proof coating after this install).
Further, how much does it intrude into cabin space? How comfortable is the passenger with this one in place - i.e., does it hit their knee?

Congratulations on the W6,
Installing a gear lock on it seems a bit radical unless you have a really bad problem of cars getting stolen in your place of stay. One can't just steal an XUV right now as servicing it for the new buyer (Stolen car purchaser) would be a big headache (warranty would be a required aspect for this vehicle in the initial years) plus the authorized dealerships will be instructed to add parts/software upgrades/updates from time to time and this will imply getting the full details of the car for reporting back to M&M. They do the updates based on chassis number or VIN number that tells them the version of hardware and software that the car comes pre loaded with besides also linking with the name of the first buyer and hence a stolen XUV should be easily traceable. In this ages of computers the entire history of cars is tacked automatically.
So for me the idea of hammering holes in a new XUV was a bit:Shockked:
I have seen some XUVs with the rub-strips fixed - the ones that are available at the dealer. In my opinion, they are too shiny and incline at a weird angle (apparently because of the crease on the side being that way).
I have not seen any side claddings for XUV in the accessory list (and probably its too early to see after-market options). In my opinion, some rugged side claddings would improve the side profile. Any views?

cruise control failed again after replacing steering control... gods know what solution they will provide this time. Last time i was informed by RM that after replacing steering control they need to flash it..(again this time also they took 5 hrs :deadhorse ) now i am really concern here, how do i know all safety features in this XUV are functioning properly and will work when needed.
Happened to see couple of XUV's while in chennai last weekend .somehow doesnot strike the WOW feeling, looks shorter than scorpio , is little wider and the rear was :eek: . Overall not exciting as i had imagined after seeing wades of fotos :Frustrati
Got delivery of my silver W8 last week.
Was not getting time to go to the showroom, so the guys had it delivered to me at home, papers sent home the next day :)
Odo reading of 124. Accepted
0 dep insurance from ICICI lombard 34k - for an IDV of 12,19,000/- (could have gone lower if I tried)
Have driven about 100kms since then, enjoying it to the hilt (upgrading from a petrol swift).
Sat nav starts, locks and works within a few secs.
Bluetooth pairing immediate with my Samsung wave (both phone & music)
No problems so far (touchwood) other than one mentioned below . . .
While driving back from work last friday, the AC would just not start even after adjusting all the controls. Could hear the loud sound of the blower but there was no air coming out from the vents and the vents were actually getting hot. The rear AC (3rd row) was starting and working normally . . .
Spoke to the A$$ guy and he was perplexed.
As a last resort I stopped the car, switched it off and then turned it back on after a few minutes and all was OK !!
Running fine now.
Wonder what happened ??!
Any suggestions . . .
Just realised that I have 2 of the most sought after vehicles to be launched in recent times . . .
The XUV5OO & the NINJA 650R !!!!

Being a prospective XUV-500 buyer, I am quite concerned with the issues people have faced with their new XUVs. Great to know that GPS and Bluetooth is working well. Could you please let us know if the following are also working well on your XUV:
1. Cruise Control
2. TPMS
3. Hill hold/assist
4. Start-Stop button
5. Headlight darkness sensors
6. Wiper sensors
7. Reverse sensors
8. Door locks

It is always better to be safe than sorry, the security system (OEM guy takes less than 2 minutes to configure a new remote) and the keys can be duplicated. The gear lock not a 100% deterrent is a bit difficult to cut unless you are carrying a gas cutter. It adds to the burden of the thief who may give the vehicle a pass and try an easier prey :).
Saw one brand new White in Connaught Place yesterday evening & it was fitted with read horizontal straight Bull Bar (with XUV written over it).
However, it seemed a bit low (in height) to me. I wonder if it would be able to help in rear protection.

This is definitely concerning. When an authorized service center starts "trial and error", your confidence in that vehicle and the manufacturer takes a huge blow.

This is precisely the reason why I was happy when one gentleman on the forum reported his TD experience where ABS and ESP were apparently tested successfully. Here's a quick link to the post:

You can't really ask owners to test ABS with EBD, 6 airbags and ESP :p
Jokes apart, I genuinely hope Mahindras have spent significantly more effort in the QC of the safety features as compared to the "comfort" features.
XUV 5OO is a new Mahindra product hence there will be lot of issues cropping up, we have seen this in almost all Indian designed vehicles this is not an exception.
So potential buyers be ready for some glitches till the design of the car components stabiles and proves itself , especially the electronics.
im happy that I went with a W6 .. Luckily i dont face issues on Hill ascent/descent, ESP,Touch screen,Tyretronics etc etc, cos the W6 has none of them .. And what ever is there is functioning smooth :)

Didn't give it much thought as I had got a gear lock installed on my brand new Wagon R as well.Its been more than 8 years now and no issues with any silt, seepage etc. No intrusion into the XUV cabin space, looks very much factory fitted right down to the brown colour.Did have to affix it such that the USB port door opens unobstructed.

I see your point.I had to rest easy though.Nothing like a visual deterrent and one that is painstaking to remove.I'll gladly take a hole or two on the XUV floor if it secures the 13 Lac vehicle.Well the holes are bolt sealed so no worries I guess.Haven't had any issues with my Wagon R gear lock all these years and I've parked it just about everywhere.Hope the same for my XUV.

Sure, I'll post some pics.He's done it neatly - it feels it was always there with no intrusion or obstruction.For the XUV, the U type gear lock is longer than normal to accomodate the distance between the reverse gear and the lock slots, while the plate colour is brown, a little darker than the XUV interior brown.Despite the longer U pin, I have to give the reverse gear an ever so slight nudge forward to slot the lock in.
