Have you or anyone tried the Rapid DSG. I like manuals and prefer them, hence I never gave a shot to any of the DSG / TSI.
Rapid DSG (only TDI no TSI option) isn't be that great entusiast car. I have driven both Vento TSI and Rapid DSG and felt Vento TSI is more fun to drive especially in city. If one is open to petrol option, TSI/DSG a better option than TDI/DSG combo.
If one want to do highway and ghat drives, Vento's additional weight will help in more stable and planted drive compared to Polo.

It totally depends on how you define a fun to drive car. Some like me love the manual transmission as it helps us connect with the car & there are many others who love the quick shifts offered by a dsg. Take a test drive and decide yourself.

White smoke from dipstick
Rapid owners who own the 1.6 TDi, i need you to pitch in and tell if you are facing similar issue of white smoke coming out of oil dipstick from 1.6 TDi engine Vento/Rapid.

My car has done 34,000 and shows this issue, friend's Rapid has done 35,000 kms and member hillsnrains Rapid at 52k kms shows the same thing. See my post and the video to get an idea.

My car has done 70,000 kms and have never seen this issue [touch wood]. Or probably I never noticed it.

Is there a particular scenario? I will check it once.

Do you see any indications on instrument cluster ?
Hope engine oil is not low ?

It could be the result of a cracked piston ring. Get it checked as it is a common problem with VW cars.

No particular scenario buddy, just have a normal drive of 10-15 kms, park your car, let the engine run and open the dipstick from where we check oil levels. Do you see any white smoke from there?

Oil is fine and nothing on instrument cluster.

Sorry for the noob question being put forth:

How do you say it is normal?

And If it is normal, Why can't the same phenomenon be seen in other engines?

Thanks in advance.

If it is whitish leak then, this could be attributable to the following;
If heavy, then it could be compressed charge leaking back to crank case because of worn out piston rings. This is termed as blow back.
If nominal, probably because of clogged crank case ventilation.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Relax guys. Here's a video of such 'blow by' from the ford's engine.

Even i saw the same thing happening (first seen even at 5k) in my fiesta's engine too. The moment i loosen the engine oil filling cap, the cap dances like anything.

I have stopped worrying about this because in the older car that i owned- a ikon 1.8D- it used to be so bad that i saw 'oil spills' from the dipstick, nevertheless no performance degradation or visible exhaust smoke/ engine oil loss observed.

What is seen in the video is minimal, which will not leak out if the dipstick seal and the filler cap seals are all right. Rise in engine temperature would result in slight increase of the leak off.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Folks Today I am visiting Skoda Ass on the following issues

1. Steering kat-kat noise on full turn (column gone?), does anybody sorted out this recently? My car is under 4th year extended warranty and hope they don't create a fuss to repair this under warranty.
2. Suspension squeaking after landing from a speed breaker, a month back or so I have complained the same. At that time they have done lubrication and said everything is fine. I am feeling that suspension is not that smooth/comfortable in absorbing the Bangalore road shocks in recent days. Suspension bushes were change during the last service i.e 41K kms, now ODO is 53K.

Now a days I am visiting Skoda ASS very frequently. on avg once in three months in last 1 year
