Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Skoda to showcase Rapid Ultima, Yeti and Superb facelifts at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo!

Skoda India is likely to launch the Euro-styled Rapid in India as a part of the car’s next facelift.

Quote:
The Rapid Ultima is a special edition version of the C-Segment car from Skoda. The Rapid Ultima adds two tone finishes for the dashboard and the leather seats while the outsides of the car get graphics and the “ultima edition” badging. The car is likely to be a diesel-only affair with the 1.6 liter TDI turbo diesel engine (104 Bhp-250 Nm) being retained along with the 5 speed manual gearbox.

Ultima is just going to be another one on lines of Prestige and Leisure "Limited Edition" versions.
Just some stickers and goodies thrown in on top of their mid or top variant.
IMO though, they are more VFM than the existing versions but usually comes with lesser associated discounts and offers.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Skoda Rapid to get an upgrade in India this year -would appear like a baby-Octavia

The Rapid sedan is likely to adopt styling borrowed from its Euro-spec variant, along with a new 1.2 liter TSI petrol engine and a DSG dual clutch automatic gearbox. The updated Rapid is expected to follow Skoda’s new global design language. In line with that, expect the front and rear ends of the Euro-spec Rapid to make it to the Indian version.
The 1.2 liter TSI turbo petrol engine that does duty in the likes of the Polo GT and the Vento TSI cars is likely to make it into the engine bay of the facelifted Rapid. This engine outputs 104 Bhp-175 Nm and is known to be a punchy performer. As is the case with the Vento sedan, the TSI turbo petrol engine will be paired to a DQ200 7 Speed DSG dual clutch gearbox in the Rapid Facelift.
Along with the visual and mechanical changes, the Rapid Facelift is likely to get a few additional features on the inside.

The article has nowhere mentioned a 'Rapid facelift'. Probably, they are just upgrading the Rapid and releasing the Euro-spec rapid as a whole new car(in place of laura)? Ain't this possible? This is just from my perspective after going through the article.

Skoda to launch the facelifted 2014 Rapid by year end

After the Octavia and the Superb, the Rapid will be the next car to get a transformation along the lines of Skoda’s global design language. As reported earlier, Skoda is planning to launch a special edition of the Rapid Ultima in February, which will keep the car refreshed until the revamped model arrives by the year end.
The facelift will carry mostly cosmetic changes with the mechanicals and architecture being carried over from the current car. The sedan gets an updated front fascia which includes a revised grille, bumpers and headlamps. The redesigned bonnet carries the new black and silver logo similar to other Skodas. The Czech car maker is currently working on the car to give it a more premium feel and make it a more value-for-money option.
The facelifted Rapid is expected to available either with a 1.6-litre diesel, a 1.6-litre petrol engine or a 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine (courtesy Volkswagen). While both the 1.6-litre engines are supposed to be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the 1.2-litre engine will also be available with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. All the three engines pump out 103bhp and the difference is seen only in the torque figures. The 1.6-litre diesel produces 250Nm, the 1.6-litre petrol produces 153Nm while the 1.2-litre petrol produces 175Nm of them.

Yes, seems like every other manufacturer is going for unique family looks. Hyundai, BMW, audi, etc all have family design and it grows or matures with each class.
Suzuki hasn't joined the bandwagon yet.
I don't know if it's good or bad, but I personally like skoda's new design language. Timeless designs

Re: Skoda to launch the facelifted 2014 Rapid by year end

I simply detest this sort of lazy styling. It sucks every car in the stable, of any character when all of them are designed so similarly. There is a difference between designing cars that can be identified as being of the same family, and cars that just look the same. Besides, owners of the Octavia won't be feeling so special anymore. VW, Skoda and Audi, when will you stop disappointing enthusiasts like me?

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Skoda India twitter handle responded to a question on Rapid face lift. Seems there is no current plan to introduce a Rapid face lift in India. Can this be considered official statement as it comes from @SkodaIndia?

Should have asked for the "future" plans.
I think their current focus is on Octavia and soon they are going to move their focus to Rapid. If not by end of 2014, then certainly by mid-2015 is my guess.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

^^ Don't expect car makers to openly announce facelifts. If they do, their current sales would nosedive.

Its all business my friend.

I agree but not entirely.
We knew Octavia was coming, when Laura was selling. We knew Superb face lift is coming when Superb is still on sale. The reduced sales of current model could be tackled by tweaking production of the current model and be compensated by the sale of new model.

We also knew the new City was coming, Sunny facelift is coming which are among completion for Rapid.
They may be undecided as Rapid face lift news will affect Vento too.
