-- The remote lock button is not working (Unlock is working, need to lock manually)
-- Air Flow adjuster in left side AC vent is not working
- Tow hook dummy in the front bumper is damaged and open
-- Few dents and scratches, but the body line is good

All regular service is done at Gurudev periodically. What will be the expense that I have to plan if I get this car and have it for the next 3 years (If I drive another 30-40k kms).
Let me try to answer some of your questions, if not all
1. What about the second key? Worst case you may need to replace key, which is quite expensive (I heard a cost of >10K)
2. All front cabin AC vents, 4 pieces/set need to be change (it should cost ~2K)

Difficult to answer last two with the above info.

As ODO reading is very close to 1L kms, you should also think about the following
1. Clutch assembly replaced or not? (may cost ~20K)
2. Condition of Tires and Suspension
3. Timing belt assembly replaced? (1.2L kms is the recommended interval, may cost ~20K)
4. How is the health of engine and injectors, difficult to ascertain but one should keep this point in mind. If engine running-in done properly and 1 min. idle rule is followed (during start and stop), you can ignore this point.

Thank you hillnrains for your detailed reply.
--Let me check on the second key.
--Clutch and Flywheel assembly replaced during the last service (90k).
--New Michelin tires were fitted at 80k.
--Have to check about timing belt replacement.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

@RGK, the key fob is an issue, if taken to Authorised Service centre. If you have some good fellows around you, you can have the key fob reprogrammed, if only the remote is an issue. The second key would be a manual one.

THe car itself is trouble free, and by the descirption you have given, would be in good nick, and would last you double of what you are thinking.

Timing belt assembly woud have already been replaced by the Service centre, at the 90k service. Don't worry about the injectors. It will take a 5k expense at the service centre getting the injectors cleaned.

My opinion, if the price is good, go for it.

Skoda Rapid Tdi - Strange engine behavior: Please Advise

Friends,

I purchased a Skoda Rapid Tdi 3 Months ago and have covered 15,000 DELIGHTFUL Kilometers in it. But I have had a problem since the onset:

The car starts normally and is an absolute dream for the first 8 - 10 minutes. Once the engine warms up, the performance seems to deteriorate progressively. We do a lot of Ghat driving and it is NOT PSYCHOLOGICAL, please. If I am encountering an inclined ghat road (Coimbatore to Ooty, for example) when driving down from Bangalore, I have to down-shift often and the engine is audibly stressed.
In the Polo TDI I owned prior, I would have hardly known I am cruising at 140, but this car (after warm-up) STRAINS To cruise at high speeds. I could not keep pace with a Diesel i-20

A few points related to the above issue, that may guide your advise:

There is a perennial PINGING from the engine when shifting from first to second, or at load, from second to third. When I checked with Vinayak Skoda, Bangalore, they told me it is the nature of the engine and there is nothing to worry about it. But my problem is, once the engine warms up sufficiently and when on throttle, THIS PINGING NOISE IS CONTINUOUS. But unlike the pinging from low gear changes, this is a subtle one, as if only one of the cylinders is having this issue (my guess)

I serviced the car at 15,000Km from Calicut and requested a thorough check of the issue, which they stated to have done: They COMPARED engine parameters against ANOTHER Rapid of similar age and batch number with their scan tool, and state that they did not find an anomaly. Since I am unable to detect this issue till I am a couple of hours into a drive, I did not confirm to Pinnacle Skoda Calicut, if the problem was resolved conclusively. But I feel the problem exists.

A few collateral points that may guide your understanding of the problem:

Fuel economy is excellent. I average about 21+ on long drives and 14-16 in city, depending on traffic conditions
No adverse exhaust smell. Normal SWEET Common Rail odour. Normal diesel exhaust trail; excessive only when on hard throttle
I have NEVER fuelled the car from a Non-COCO Outlet. When we plan our trips, we go OUT OF OUR WAY to get to a COCO
I have done my bit to dust the Air Filter every 5000Km and have always monitored Engine Oil Levels to be as per norm
The Service Mechanic stated of a SWIRL Device integrated with the MAF sensor in the updated Rapid Tdi, and instances when it gives out this Tick-Tick sound, which he reckons, is what I am mistaking for PINGING Noise
One of my friends suggested I RE-MAP the ECU with Wolf's, but am hesitant coz the vehicle is still under warranty.

I am placing this on forum coz I have researched and asked but yet unable to find a solution to this nagging issue. Please help me out with what to do.
Many Thanks!!!

Re: Skoda Rapid Tdi - Strange engine behavior: Please Advise

^^ Why don't you just connect with a bhpian (or regular individual) who owns a Vento or Rapid tDi in and around Calicut; and get to do the test route (where you can differentiate the difference) with them (the other owner and SA) across both cars? Unless you plan on pushing the car negatively, no owner will object; at max it'll take a few mins of his/her time.

Edit: Re-Posting this on the Rapid/Vento thread might get you a quick revert.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Pinging noise points to premature ignition, though it is mostly encountered in Petrol Engines.

It may also be due to extra lean fuel to air ratio (as you are getting excellent FE in Ghats and at high speed), which may be due to blocked injection nozzles or some error in ECU program.

I suggest that you get the injectors checked by an independent agency. Local bhpians may know of one in your area.

One thing that you must know is that continuous Pinging" can in extreme cases blow hole in your cylinder head. So please get it rectified ASAP.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Can someone please suggest a good FNG in Bangalore to get my rapid serviced? I'm OK to travel to any parts of city. I'm fed up with the authorised service centers!

I gave my Rapid to Carsmith motors for the last Annual Service in April 2018. They are opp. Agara Lake, Sarjapur road. Had a positive experience. They advertise as German car specialists. My review is below. You can give it a try.

A quick look at pinging in diesel engines suggests that it could be knocking. Suggest you to escalate it to the higher management ASAP. It will take some time to get responses but don't give up. Make sure you compare it with other Rapids that are available at the SC in front of the chief service engineer. Try to get it resolved within warranty as the car is only 3 months old!

Hope it gets resolved soon. Keep us updated!

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Today I received few pics of rapid Monte Carlo which was relaunched last week. I’m attaching a pic which shows a button in the B pillar. Dealer said that it is anti theft alarm.

Monte Carlo comes with cabin lights with dedicated map lamps and motion sensor too. But he didn’t send any pics of that though

He is correct. That is anti-theft alarm disable button. Have it in my Vento.

1st Gen Vento came with it and cabin lights with dedicated map lamps and motion sensor too.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

I am getting moderate vibrations in the entire car at high speeds (120+).

Mine is a 2012 TDI and nearing 90k kms.

This behaviour was not there before and seems like a new development.

Can anybody help me with the diagnosis please?

Another issue I am witnessing is the high beam indicator on the instrument cluster which isn't glowing at full brightness and is just about visible when on high beam. It returned to its full brightness once after restarting the car but again went back to being dimly lit.

As a first step, you can check all your tires for any non-uniform thread wear, and then check alignment and balancing.

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Dear members, i own a 2016 rapid dsg. It had undergone its 3rd service just a month back at 30,800 kms. After having covered about 1000 kms in a span of a month I casually checked the oil level and found that the oil was at the exact half mark on the dipstick. This was checked on a proper flat surface and double checked with a cold engine as well. (P.s:- for warm engine, the oil was checked after 10 mins after switching off the engine ). I visited the jmd bhandup worshop yesterday to make sure all is fine and the technician said that the half mark is fine as long as it doesn't touch the low mark where u need to fill in about 0.5 litre of oil (castrol edge professional 5w40 505.01 complaint). Can anyone please confirm their oil levels just to make sure that half mark is fine or should I just top up to the full mark if everyone else's show the full mark. Idk if I am being paranoid but better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks in advance.
