Oh wow, okay. Mine is pretty much in the same boat probably.

That is not uncommon at all. In my 320d, the front brake pads were replaced at 18k km, and the rear ones at 27k km. Front pads have pretty short life in general. But I don't mind that because brake performance in the 3-series is awesome, and I don't mind a shorter brake pad life as a cost of that.

I think it might be due to driving habits. Does she tend to stay in D mode even when the car is idling? I have seen this habit a lot among people driving AT cars. This leads to a faster wearing out of the brake pads as effectively they are engaged since the car's natural tendency is to move forward in D mode.

Mohit, what happens when brakes are kept pressed at stops in traffic is that the disc cools in a non uniform manner.
Where there is contact the disc heat remains high, as a result it begins to warp slightly and begins to cause the disc to wear non uniformly.
Over time, this causes vibration when we apply the brakes.

Lot's of traffic in Hyderabad and also the car is parked on a ramp that is on the slope. Probably another reason why, daily usage of excessive brakes. We got them replaced yesterday.

However, we've had a slight squeaking noise for the last month or so, thought it would be the brakes and it's still there, so clearly not the pads. I realized that even when the brakes aren't applied, there is some sort of sound coming out from the front wheels. Any idea what it could be?

Get the shocker inspected. I had a similar noise coming from the left front wheel area and it turned out to be a leaking shocker.

Yes, this is the first time the pads would get changed .

I Got the vehicle inspected again . The thickness of disc is 20.2mm whereas minimum required is 20.4 mm . Brake pads thickness is 3.7mm and minimum required is 14mm . Pics attached herewith of both discs and pads ...

I have a confusion . Seeing the condition of the brake pads ,it seems they are totally gone and the advisor too recommended immediate replacement of pads and discs, both, but the instrument cluster still shows 700 kms due for a change.

I feel the pads were worn out way before but due to some fault of the software, instrument cluster did not show the warning and since I kept driving on the worn out pads ,the discs too started wearing out quickly ?

The reason why I am getting sure is coz in the Month of December 18 , same thing happened , I sent my car to the service centre to check some noise coming from the rear brakes and the advisor found out that the pads and discs both were totally worn out but there was no warning that I got from instrument cluster and as a result BMW admitted the software fault and changed the rear discs free of charge , I just had to pay for the pads .

Seeing the images, isn't there a possibility that this time too due to the fault of software/sensors the same might have happened again ?BMW 320d & 328i (F30) : Official Review-img_9490.jpg

Thanks KMT, how is the breaking with the new Brembo pads, any noticeable difference?

Also does it have the same thread depthness as BMW pads, i.e is it expected to last as long as OEM parts?

A bit hard for me to comment accurately on brakepads as I changed out RFT to Mich Primacy 4 along with the brakes.
I guess brake feel is 'similar', life is expected to be the same as OEM.

I was told new brake pads would have a thickness of around 13mm and one should replace when it reaches 3.7mm. Did you mean 3.4mm above, can't be 14mm?

In my case, the brake pad reading on idrive is still showing 60000 kms to go like a new car (for both front and back) and I have already done 15500 kms. I hope there is no software issue. When I went for 2nd service last month (14800 kms), they said the brake pad thickness is 10 mm for front and back. In fact it was 10 mm during first service too at 8400 kms. They said I drive well, so didn't question the reading of 60K. Yes, I am cautious while breaking and do a lot engine breaking.

Good to note that they replaced the disc FOC because of their software issue. You should use the same logic for front disc too.

re: BMW 320d & 328i (F30) : Official Review

Hello There !

Am looking out for a pre-owned 328i - F30 Version.

Can anyone give me a reference price I need to shell out ?

What should be the yearly maintenance cost I should be incurring considering that this car will run at the max 10000Kms a year ?

Does anyone know the location of the "Exhaust Temperature Sensor" Plug in the F30 320d engine bay?

I am struggling to find it.
