Thanks to everyone for the useful advise. The mineral grey with beige interiors in diesel 320d is being offered at an extra discount of approx 90k as compared to the black color. Is it a good deal ?

Which dealer is offering you the 320i? Bird? Deutsche Motoren told me 15 days ago that they don't have any 320i in stock.

It may be worthwhile to wait for two days for the year to change. The dealer will only be more desperate to sell the car. The 320i hardly moves. As for the price increase, they can't charge you 2014 price for a 2013 car. I believe the 320i doesn't even get xenon headlights. The last I checked, a 320d with xenons carried a 2 lakh discount. In my opinion, 5-6 lakhs off for a 2013 320i without xenons should not be difficult once the year turns.

Not necessarily. If the subsidy on diesel goes and India upgrades its emission standards to Euro 5, ultra-low sulphur diesel may actually cost more than Euro 5 petrol because it takes more crude oil to produce ULSD. That is the case in Europe.

I don't expect such a radical change to happen anytime soon since non metros are still Euro 3 but it's something to consider for a long-term car purchase.

Another vote for diesel. I do less than 1000 kms a month and wanted a petrol but not good deals on petrol. Also resale value of diesel is much higher at least as of now.

Mineral gray is not bad. It looks nice.

Hope this is valid.
Dealers are using this as a tool to sell the car by 31/12/13.
I can definitely wait for a few more days but just a little concerned that the dealers will give a discount over and above the increased price even for the present stock from 1st onwards.

What StarScream means to say that generally it is the practice for most dealers of luxury cars to price the models based on the model year/year of manufacture. They may quote new year model price increases to try and 'sell' you the previous year model car. But if they say 2014 prices are applicable for car manufactured in 2013 and then start negotiations, it may not be ethical. 2014 year models will usually not be available till late February / March of 2014. It all depends on you and for how long you intend to keep the car and its usage.

Especially in case of new models (like 3 series) whether car is manufactured in 2013 or 2014 may not matter very much. Yes there may be some changes, but nothing major. If any update or recall is there, your 2013 car will usually get it if mechanical in nature.

If say the price is Rs. 30 lakhs for 2013 model and Rs. 33 lakhs for 2014 model, and discount is say Rs. 3 lakhs on the 2013 model, I think I would be quite happy getting a 2013 model at Rs. 27 lakhs, whether registered in 2014 or even in Dec 2013. They will not give either the same level of discount for the 2014 model plus increase in prices would be applicable. So then if I actually bought a 2014 model with discount of say Rs. 2 lakhs in March 2014, then my cost would be Rs. 31 lakhs for 2014 vs Rs. 27 lakhs for 2013. This is quite a huge difference. Also stocks of 2013 models would get over and then there may be no choice but to pay higher for 2014 model.

Now if the dealer is saying you are getting 2013 model for Rs. 30 lakhs (Rs. 33 less 3 lakhs), i.e. effective 2014 prices, then I think that is wrong and you should negotiate more.

In case of C class e.g. where the model is quite old (been around for several years) and an all new model is around the corner (2015) then the situation would be quite different as then 2014 models also will be with very heavy discounts upto 6-7 lakhs at this time next year.

Also in most of these cars, though date of manufacture of the imported kit online may be 2012/2013, the actual assembly in India may take place only several months later. This complicates the issue again.

I thought of one simple trick for you to know for sure if prices will be increased for current stock also or not. Here is how it goes :

Currently the dealers have 2 set of cars in the non xenon category.
1. The 2012 stock
2. The 2013 stock

Now the car made in 12 had a lesser price tag to begin with. IIRC it was 29.9l ex showroom Delhi. You can contact member sunnysm above for the exact figure.
The cars made in 13 had a price tag of 30.4l for the non xenon variants.

Hence just see the price tags. If this policy of increasing prices in current stock also was true then both 2012 and 2013 cars (non xenons) would have an identical price tag although the discounts offered might vary. But if the price tags are different then you can be cent percent sure that even now the 2013 cars will not be subjected to a revision in there price tags.

So if what Dr. Mohit says is true, you should be able to get a higher discount on the 2012 model. Say Rs. 4 lakhs off Rs. 30 lakhs for net cost of Rs. 26 lakhs. While for 2013 model your net cost may be say Rs. 27.5 lakhs (30.5 less Rs. 3 lakhs). In this case the difference between 2012 and 2013 is less (about Rs. 50k) but when the difference is large, the overall difference can become quite large.

Whether a car will be considered under 2013 or 2014 pricing will depend on when dealer has been billed for that particular car. If he has stock of cars which were billed to him in 2013, you can still get similar discounts on it in early 2014. But if he has to make a new blocking at factory and if this car is 2013 he still will be billed for 2014 price and then no dealer will offer you same discounts.

I would suggest just go ahead and book it this year just to be sure and save your energy on negotiating next year. Five years down the line it will really not matter which year model your car is and also you will be registering it in 2014.

Very few buyers actually look in to so much details. Mostly, year of registration is what matters, especially in case of such CKD cars where date of manufacturing is actually date of kit manufacturing in Germany.

So my suggestion: book it this year.

Not quite true. A friend of mine bought a 2012 car in 2013 when car was still at the factory and had to be booked at the dealer. He was quoted 2012 price and discounts from that price and all order/invoice documents stated 2012 model.

What I assume is this: BMW also needs to clear stock. Sometimes the dealer blocks his own funds and orders cars in advance anticipating general demand and/or to meet their targets. In this case discounts can be higher as he needs to rotate his funds. In some cases where he orders a car for you, even then they can give usual discounts. It seems only in case of niche models or where there are very few cars available of a particular model that there may be nominal discount. Sometimes additional discount is also given if you finance through BMW Fin.

Guys any idea if BSI rates can be negotiated? Any scope for discounts here provided we buy it for 3 or 4 cars together?

No, you can't as far as i know. It is bmw India who plan and make this packages not the dealers.

Got an Alpine White with Saddle Brown BMW 320d Luxury Line billed...Ordered the M-Sport Suspension, M-Performance Power Kit and the M-Performance Exhaust. Apparently it would be the first car in Mumbai to have the M-Sport Suspension. Awaiting delivery!

Out of curiosity, no sportsline?

I would pick sportsline over luxury just for those seats, they feel damn awesome to seat on.

I did consider the Sport Line but I either wanted an Alpine White or Melbourne Red and both weren't available in Sport Line hence checked out the Luxury Line... Those Saddle Brown interiors looked too beautiful to be let go hence booked the car without giving a second thought... The M-Sport front bumper, Sport Line front grille and new rims will eventually make it so the only thing that would be missed is the sport seats... I couldn't have sacrificed the colour preference for the sports seats... Had there been more differences than the scene would have been different

EDIT: The trim would be wrapped in CF as soon as I pick the car.

Congratulations! Though I think Sportline would have made more sense considering the awesome sports seats.

When is the delivery? And if you don't mind, could you share the deal you got?
