Fraz333r; I have owned and driven AT cars since 1999, but have never felt the need for an arm rest. However, I am sure you will be able to find one in the market.

Yes. just got the web pricing. Difference in the MT and AT is 75,000 ex-showroom for both the V and S(o) versions. These are the Kanpur prices

Pricing seems fair given that the i10 is the best seller in this segment and especially considering the base i10 auto doesnt have any safety features.

Good Pricing by Honda. Both the variants are superbly priced. Honda Engines are more fuel efficient. Should see more AT Brio on Road.

S(O) AT : Rs. 584,200
V AT : Rs. 609,200

So is it better to get the V with 14" alloys, or get the S(O) with steel wheels and upsize to 14"/15" alloys + tires?

The best upsize as I see is the 185/55R15 with only -0.24% circumference difference. But I don't think that size is available in India.
Another option is to maintain the 14" size, and get 185/60R14 tires with a difference of -0.94%.

Or just get the V and change the shoes to 185/60R14 tires with a difference of -0.94%.

Which one sounds reasonable?

Honda now introduces a maintenance package for the Brio. Duration = 40,000 kms / 2 years. Cost = Rs. 9,996.

While I'm going to buy this car within the next 6 months, one thing puzzles me to no end.

Is a mileage indicator display more important than gear indicator lights? I understand cars in this segment are built to a cost. But, isn't this a simple matter of prioritization?

Is this how car manufacturers perceive us OR are we as a country that confused about our priorities? At the end of the day, although Honda may be a Japanese brand, it is run by our "aam aadmi" I guess. :deadhorse

Yes most people value fuel efficiency indicator.
What would be the use of a gear indicator in an automatic with no manual override (not D3,2,1 etc but I am referring to paddle shifter or triptronic which lets you to select gears)
Even in Honda City and Civic, gear indication comes on only when you are in S mode.

With the Brio AT now available, I don't find a reason to opt for an i10 AT anymore. With comparable if not better interiors, a much superior AT gearbox, reasonable pricing, Honda reliability and potentially much better mileage than the i10 AT, one would find it hard to make a case for the i10 AT. In fact, I would get one just to stay away from the i10 ATs dubious mileage figures.

I find the armrest on my City AT extremely useful and I sorely miss it when I drive my A-Star AT. The left hand does not have much to do in an AT and the armrest provides a very useful place to rest it upon. Without an armrest, one has to resort to keeping the left hand very low in one's lap which I'm not very comfortable with.

Well, I drive a Sonata automatic and the illuminated lights come on when I switch on the headlamps, irrespective of mode (tiptronic or regular D).

I'd say illuminated lights for the gear modes are critical to me when I have to suddenly shift between modes while driving at night. I personally find this feature to be infinitely more useful than a mileage indicator.

I feel its more important to know what gear mode is engaged, rather than reassuring myself that I have saved 27 paise-per-km compared to yesterday. stupid:

P.S. Mileage aficionados, please don't throw brickbats at me!

I can see illuminated lights for gear modes on the instrument cluster. Why would you need them next to the gear shifter? You won't look down while driving anyways.

Coming to think of it, I guess I look down at the gear shifter while slotting it (e.g. when I am about to reverse, or go from N to D in a signal). I am not sure if this is the conventional way of shifting automatics. If it isn't, then pardon my ignorance.

In a manual transmission, there isn't a need to "look" at the shifter while shifting, because each gear has a unique position that is wired to our mind. But, in automatics, everything is in a straight line. There is no certain way to know unless you "look". Maybe, driving automatics over a long period of time may change that.

Also, I understand that Brio AT's main console shows the current gear mode, which should eliminate any confusion, in the unlikely event of one arising.

However, my initial post was spurred as a result of my indignation towards Honda for cutting corners. I mean, if they can work on coming up with a complex hardware-software solution to sense and calculate mileage on a real-time basis, it should not be that hard (or expensive) to do something as elementary as illuminated lights.

For all care, they could stuff some radium next to the gear shifter to make it glow in the dark. In my head, I was actually thinking more about the attitude of manufacturers more than this specific issue.

is it worth it? Incidentally saw a figure of 11,232 on the local dealerships chart

(labour is included in the 1 month, 3 month and 6 months services)

ie. under Rs.8k!

On a lighter note: List in Kanpur was 599k ex-showroom last evening is 603k now. Some inflation!!!
