The back-lighting on the control buttons is red, whereas the MID is white.

Here you go.

Steering wheel. The flat bottom steering wheel is fantastic to hold.

Cruise control stalk. Is same as in the Jetta.

Center console. Looks neat and well laid out.

ORVM control knob. Feels a little fragile.

ORVM with turn indicator. The piano black finish is going to be a pain to maintain. Maybe a matte black wrap would do the job.

Thanks a ton.

Followup questions

This may sound a bit stupid.. but I test drove the 2014 model and was too busy getting a feel of the drive and didn't bother checking what the steering wheel buttons are supposed to do. Actually, I am not a gizmo freak and wanted to evaluate the car purely based on driving ease/comfort/dynamics etc.
  • What are those "Left right" controls you are referring to on the steering wheel?
  • Those aluminum finish buttons are on left and right side of steering wheel spoke?
    • The left had side will move to next/previous track?
    • The right side ones are for scrolling thru the menu on MID?
  • I see there is a +- for volume on LHS and there is a up/down whats the function?
I have seen some VWs where you can scroll thru the MID using up/down buttons at the tip of the wiper stalk (mirror images of Cruise control SET/RES buttons),
  • Are these present in new Polo or they are not needed as all the functionality has moved to steering wheel?
As I start driving the doors auto-lock (GOOD).
Now I stop, move to Neutral and shutdown the engine (not removing the key).
  • Can the doors be opened from outside?
Off topic.

With foot on the brake. Can the car start in N or do I need to be in P?
After the test drive I switch off the car and they key won't come out!! The
SA had already got off as it was a tight parking spot! I tried to fiddle a few times but no.. the key just won;t come out. Rolled down the window and called the SA for help (He smiled and asked me to put in P). And then they key came out. In i10 I have a habit of putting in N, handbrake and the stop the engine, I put it in P just as I pull out the key and open the door to get off, I will need to change my habit.

    - By 'left right' he's referring to their position on the steering wheel. Nothing else.

  • The left had side will move to next/previous track?

    - The aluminium finish buttons (on the left) are to rewind/ fast forward or change tracks. The other keys are mute and the volume toggle.

  • The right side ones are for scrolling thru the menu on MID?

    - The Up and Down keys scroll through the MID. There are a total of 9 parameters that you can scroll through. The aluminium finish buttons (on the right) will let you toggle between two values of the parameter. For e.g Trip Average and Tank Average. The other two are for; accepting calls and for voice commands. Long pressing the OK button will reset the MID parameters, say resetting the fuel efficiency after a tankful. The OK will also let you get rid of pop-ups on the MID like the Speed Warning.

  • Are these present in new Polo or they are not needed as all the functionality has moved to steering wheel?

    - They have moved to the wheel.

  • Can the doors be opened from outside?

    - Once you've stopped, the car will unlock all doors the moment you take the key out of the ignition.

Regarding your other query:

You can take the key out only in P. However, you can start the car in either P or N. Say you are at a long traffic signal and you slot in N and switch the car off, you can start it back in N. However, if you've switched the car off when it was in D; you'll have to shift it back to N or P to start it up.

Hope this helps.

Not really. A wash a day is more than enough. The high gloss finish looks really nice and I really wouldn't recommend a matte wrap.

Cheers!

Thanks Cartman. Actually I too like the looks. I was just worried about the surface attracting scratches. I will keep it gloss for now.

@graaja and @cartman, thanks for all the info .
The wait for my GT is now getting to a point of mild frustration.

Here is a link for my steering. Though it had ended you can contact the seller for details.

Hi drpudhi, I got in touch with this seller yesterday for the steering wheel and he is ready to ship it to India. I would like to know about the customs clearance procedures (if any) to be taken care of by us. I had opted for shipping through FedEx at an extra cost and he agreed to it. Did you shipped it through Economy Int'l shipping offered in ebay or some other priority shipping? Is it possible to share your contacts with me. That would be very helpful for me to finish the process of making my new red Polo GT TSI more mightier!

Cheers!

I had opted for fedex shipping. The process per se was simple. Once it reached India, got an email from fedex asking for my id and address proof and to sign an kyc authorization letter. I emailed those documents and received the product at my door step in two days to whom i paid the duty. Couldn't PM you as you are a newbie.

Thank you drpudhi, highly appreciated. Can you drop the details to vipin.ug@gmail.com? I am still in touch with them to finalize my purchase.

What happens to the newly facelifted TSI's? And especially for folks who have recently placed orders awaiting deliveries? Quite a bummer!

Also what are the ramifications of this move for existing Polo owners like me and countless others? I'm smelling something fishy but cannot speculate until we hear more details on this.

Any VW insiders with more dope on this?

Spoke to VW Palace Cross SA about the status of my booking.
Even dealers are in the dark about the directive.

I feel more shocked by that than by the diesel software con!

Why? Whatever is up with those people? Or the cars?

Very worrying.

GUYS, is Auto headlights supported in our BCM by default? Or does it not work? What if we order the module and switch? Will it work out of the box?

I am talking about this one.

Hi Frank,

Not sure about the product in the link you posted.

But Gannu has implemented auto light with coming home and leaving home lights in this link.

Even I am interested in getting the auto light function as I got used to this in the Jetta, and am forgetting to turn off the head lights when I switch off the car.
