Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

Has anyone tried a Bosch setup for the front brake rotors and pads?

Bosch service center at electronic city has quoted around 7k for this, while VW OEM is about 8k.

I wore off my first pads at 15k kms and the rotors were skimmed during first service. Now, at 23k kms, the braking is weaker and squealing has started again.

I'm wondering if the Bosch setup is superior to OEM in terms of performance, or if I should upgrade to Brembos (around 10.5k).

I had this humming noise while taking turns at low speeds in my Jetta. Being it a manual car, VW did not recommend oil change before 1L KM (For DSG its 60K KM) but I had read on European forums about changing oil fixes this issue. Since it was only a couple of grand affair, I went ahead and voila it solved the issue.

But I realized after replying that yourd is a DQ200, check once with service center on this. Even though DQ200 is a dry clutch GB, there is some oil involved in it. I remember earlier DQ200 had synthetic oil which later changed to mineral.

Thanks- however I am curious to understand what was the exact source of your noise which got solved by just a transmission oil change?
As for me, I don't have an issue with the gearbox as such. My query was more to note your views and add to the learning to go back to my original thread on "DSG : Demystified"

yes, that's the one. 2 for the b pillars and 2 for covering the 'triangles' of the rear windows.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

Hey guys,

Wanted your advice on buying a new GT TSI. This thread has more than enough information on the current car and its a delight reading about it.

Just wanted to check if a face-lift or cosmetic update is due for the Polo and whether it is expected any time soon.

Appreciate your views on the above.

Thanks.

Per the technician the load on the transmission was making that humming noise. I got the oil replaced at 50K KM, however VW recommends oil change only at 1L KM in manual cars. I used to hear that noise only in lower gears and on turns.

Great choice.

There is chatter in the automotive world that the next gen (MQB) will not be here till 2022. Until then, there will be a facelift in the second half of 2019, which might feature different grille and alloys, LED lights and probably side skirts.

Don't hold me on this as this is just speculations.

@others with ears on the official grapevine, please confirm this.

Oh ok, thats a bummer. But ok I guess, would have loved to have the LED lights though. All other cosmetic updates can be added on as OEM from dealership I guess.

Thanks mate

My first rotors and pads lasted close to 45k kms, after which the rotors were causing brake judder and pads were gone too.

I don't know about Bosch, but I got Brembos, the change was the felt with some improvement in brake sharpness, while under heavy/ emergency braking they were as bad as OEM. 11k on Brembo, I feel slight vibrations developing in these too, don't know whats wrong.

In hind-sight, going for OEM replacement won't have been so bad either.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

just got the decat done for my TSi. The power difference is in-explainable as the car is much free revving with smoother acceleration. Not to forget the MID shows i get a mileage of 14 and then 16 which ive never got so far for my normal commute. The best i used to get was 11.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

As you can see in the 1st picture you have the OE catalytic converter and the second one is a SS catalytic converter custom bypass pipe sans the bulge with provision for upstream and downstream sensors. The normal terminology used is de-cat for bypassing the OE catalytic converter

Won't it result in failing your regular smoke test for obtaining PUC?
