Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

Test drove the GT TSI today. VW Downtown was very professional in the whole process. Special mention of Rakesh who is responsible for corporate sales and ensured that I get a feel of the car to my satisfaction. Following are the points that I really liked about the car (some of them may be repeated)
  1. Sporty/Enjoyable and Comfortable/Convenient at the same time
  2. The last time I got bowled over by a car's acceleration was in 2009 when I had driven the Swift Diesel. This one beats that experience!
  3. Car is absolutely refined in and out.
  4. Suspension is well tuned for Indian conditions. Much better than the bouncy swift
  5. The car can perform effortlessly in your day to day drive. Passengers wont even notice a monster beneath the hood if you keep light foot on the accelerator
  6. One dab on the accelerator and the car zooms ahead like a locomotive. Sports mode is a different beast altogether. Addictive!
  7. Tiptronic mode is like a video game. Lots of Fun! Downshifting is automatic in case you dont do it
  8. Steering is light which is good for 90% of the Junta.
  9. Seat fabric much more manageable than the Vento's Beige colour.
  10. Polo GT TSI's acceleration is much much more enjoyable than these cars (which I have driven so comparing): Swift Vdi, Honda City iVtec, Chevrolet Cruze
  11. Vento with TSI and DSG would be icing on the cake.

Whaaat! Does it beat Cruze in acceleration? Now don't tell me you meant diesel Cruze. And did you mean AT or MT?

Dear pgsagar, no offense to any of these cars since these are my individual opinions. What I meant was, the Polo GT TSI is more enjoyable than the Cruze, not necessarily it beats it in acceleration figures.

Cruze does the 0-100 dash in about 10 seconds (source: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offici...review-58.html) so does the Polo according to various ownership reports.

Infact Prithwi who owns the GT TSI has done in about 9secs.

"Now don't tell me you meant diesel Cruze"

BTW the Cruze is available only with Diesel Option!

None taken. How stupid of me. I didn't know there is no petrol Cruze. But if Polo is close to Cruze then it is no mean feat in itself.

Congrats Sahil! Enjoy the car.

Btw, can anyone suggest if it is advisable to change the HU jn this car or will a basic speaker upgrade do the trick for basic day to day listening? My artists range from Dave Matthews Band to John Mayer to Jagjit Singh.

Thanks

First of all try to change the speakers and most probably that will do the trick. No need to change all speakers, just replace the front speakers.

Audition few component speaker sets. If possible, try to audition by plugging the speakers to your HU and pick the one set which you like for the front doors. When you final the speakers, you will have to pay some attention on perfect tweeter mounting location where they sound their best and produce a good sound image/stage, that is crucial.

Pay attention on proper impedance matching of the speakers and the HU. Most probably you won't feel need of HU replacement.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

The car has 2 memories accumulating Trip Memory and Total Journey Memory (page 26 of user manual).
Trip memory resets if there is gap of more than 2 hours between two journeys.
Total journey memory resets after 19:59 hours of journey time.
According to manual, total journey memory has two reset points (19H59M or 99H59M of journey time).
Is there a way to make the total journey memory accumulate for 99H59M. 20H is too short time I guess.

Not to take away from the sanctity of this thread, but my SA called me from VW Whitefield and said there are no Polo Tsi's being delivered this month. Then he promptly offered an Auto Jetta for 23L on road if I didn't want to wait. The wait will continue as 23 for a Jetta isnt something I'm willing to dole out right now.

I heard the same today. When I went for an enquiry couple of weeks back I was told wait period was around 2 months. Went again today with the intention to book and was told wait period was around 5 months. As per the SA they are getting only 4 to 5 cars per month and some months they are not getting any cars. My take is that since they are getting ready to launch the vento tsi they may be giving preference to that since I assume they would need to build an initial stock before launch. I am now rethinking whether to book or not.
