Cardeep, I beg to differ. The dealer margins are really wafer thin. AFAIK it is around 4-6% of invoice value of the vehicle. The other sources of income for a dealership are insurance, registration charges and accessories. But even if we add all the margins, it would never cross 6-7% of invoice value of the car.

If invoice cost of the car, say, Innova is around 12 lacs, as per your statement, dealer earns 2.4 lacs to 4.8 lacs? :Shockked: Highly unbelievable!

Hi @Jayant..B

I fear we are going off topic here & the mods may soon interfere.

Here one of forum members @agspins has managed a sneak peek into Alto 800 some time before its launch & scooped a document wherein the dealer's landed price of Alto 800 in Nagpur was Rs.262541. The same variant was launched at Rs.2.99 lacs, i.e. Rs.37.5K margin for the dealer on each smallest car (that too in the introductory price) from the marquee. This is roughly 14% of the landed cost. For bigger & costlier cars the margin is even higher, like someone pointed out in another thread that the cost to make a Innova is Rs.5.5 lacs to Toyota India & the rest is there profits & dealers' margins.

I am told that Honda earns Rs.3 lacs+ on every City sold in India, & if you have some contacts in their regional office, you can have a hefty discount (like a lac off from the on road price) from a Honda vehicle.

Your call... :).

@ecosport

Very true and i have experienced this myself in my attempt to get the Ecosport allocated to me in the genuine order of priority with out luck .
The same dealer who committed that the first vehicle with the requested specifications will be allocated to me allocated the vehicle to someone else who booked after me , there is absolutely no credibility with the way dealer operates and there is hardly anything which could be done other than just hoping that next time it wont happen to you.

I hope that was not the case here.

I don't know since when ethics stopped meaning anything. That's precisely why nobody respects Indians (The US may be an exception). But then I agree with you, 90% (or may be more) people in India won't think twice to jump a queue. But that doesn't mean they are right, does that?

Guys maybe we are going OT here. I am not disagreeing with you guys but lets keep this thread focused on Ecosport. If someone has managed to get quick delivery of this new hot thing in town, I am happy to hear his feedback on Ecosport and rather than make the person a point of moral and ethics discussion. If I had the leverage even I would love to get quick delivery over 6 months waiting. I bet 99.9% of the people waiting would love to as well. Anyways back to Ecosport :). I am not buying one yet, but a possible car for future.

@ supertinu

I do not think this is OT and a topic on ethics / morals alone. I have booked an Ecosport and haven't got a date from the SA except to say it is over 6 months. If someone jumps the queue it is likely to affect my delivery.

I may be truly stupid but it does occur to me when I pull favor that I could be affecting someone else's delivery!

Cheers,

Booked an Ecosport titanium tdci at riddhi ford last Monday. Am confused between white and mars red. Black is out due to high maintenance. I love mars red but fear it might become monotonous in a few days. Please help?

It is kind of coincidence that this discussion happened the same day I had to go through it!

I had already received a call last week saying I can take the delivery next week, So I have to pay up the full amount upfront. I obliged and transferred the funds by the same day afternoon.

As I was out of town, today morning my dad received a call from a senior staff (not naming) of Kairali Ford, Thrissur, Kerala saying "Sir, there was an error by our staff and your vehicle is not ready. It would only come in the next allotment to us which may take a week or two"

Luckily I had information that my vehicle had already arrived in their stockyard and I'm first in line as per bookings for Ambiente variant in Black.

My family members and father's friends own a few dealerships in kerala and I've heard some other dealers or their senior employees doing the same so I was aware that they would try out such cheap, unethical and immoral tricks.

Soon after this call my dad made a couple of calls. And by afternoon the same person shamelessly called back to inform that my vehicle has been allotted and you can pick it up.

This is my first Ford, hope they don't mess up my experience!

My point is if its a common man who has no knowledge of these malpractices by the dealers he would still have to wait a month or so to get allotment just because someone tried to make extra bucks for himself! This attitude is worser than that of bureaucratic behavior we complain of!

FYI,white is not easy to maintain as well. I have a white Vento, though it looks pristine on white, a close inspection reveal spots. Also white usually turns a little yellowish white as years pass by.

That said i still love white cars. White also ensures a better resale.

@johannskaria

i was not lucky as you were today , i followed up with the same dealer continuously so as to make sure that this manipulation wont happen and i get my priority, i got the information as soon as the vehicle was unloaded on yard and called them multiple times to arrange for my vehicle delivery , how ever the same Sales Manager who confirmed that i will be allocated the first vehicle one day back happily revealed that the Vehicle which came has already got allocated to another person :Frustrati

What is the Delivery Period quoted to you by Riddhi Ford?

I've booked Chill Metallic. Here was the take on other colours-
Mars Red - Didn't like it, reminded me of Red Oxide.
Black - Maintenance Issues.
White - Just didn't want that colour.
Silver - Gonna be too common.
Kinetic Blue - A bit loud.

Dad saw the Painted Panel Sections on display and made up his mind on Chill Metallic, I loved the same.

Which dealer?

Same thing happened to me too today. After much grilling, the SA admitted that the car that i was supposed to get was given to someone else. Claims that there was a mix up of priority numbers. Feel so helpless. Anybody has a grenade to spare?

Kairali Ford Trivandrum ,i am not able to express the kind of effort i put in to get what i am deserved , Pre-booked in Jan , Paid 4 lakhs cash very next day of launch on the assurance that vehicle will be allocated next day and when the rest of the loan amount was about to get transferred , they conveyed it will be the showroom car on which at least 10K people sat and rough used , i denied , written to Ford , Ford gave an automated reply stating "discretion of dealer" , i mailed back , Ford representative called up , assuring they have contacted Dealer Sales Manager and i will get the priority on next allotment, daily followup after that with dealership to ensure that they don't play this game and when the Vehicle came , they allocated the same to someone who does know how to influence , i don't feel like buying this car anymore , but i don't want to give up just like that as well , After much fighting i have been assured that next specific variant will be allocated to me - wont be surprised if they tell a different story next time as well which will be the decision maker for me to say bye to Ford.

Guys , really sorry if i have gone OT here , just wanted to share the bitter experience on the whole ecosport story .

I have booked my Ecoboost Titanium just a week back. Same story of 6 months....
In fact I have given a open color choice too ... Any color except red n blue... Still...
I really doubt this car has got so much booking, seems more like a dealer inflated figure...

That 19.3 is overall. About 50% inside the city. you can expect a higher mileage in highways and lesser if your drive is confined to the city. You can also take the opinion of other ecosport owners here.

clap:
I get 14.5 in City driving (Chennai) and 16.5 kmpl in highways. (100% AC)

1st Service done. Also changed the oil and oil filter.

Done 4324 kms so far.

Hope the mileage increases after 10K Kms.

Kudos to you for achieving such figures, I think you are feathering the Accelerator pedal. jus' kidding.

What you said about the resale is true. agree: Mars Red and kinetic blue look smashing in the showroom but i think the extrovert styling combined with these bright colors may make the ecosport a pain in the eye in the long run.

Riddhi Ford claimed 4-5 months and the SA there was very helpful making me book a ford again after my ford escort service horror stories. :Frustrati He advised me not to go for the ecoboost as its a new technology and service and repair cost would be much more than the other engine options. He said go in for the 1.5 litre petrol if running is less but if it was to be petrol then it had to be an ecoboost so booked a diesel.
He said i would surely get one of the first few ecosport models to be manufactured in 2014 and am ok with that as that would be around the time my son would be 18 and would take the car with him to medical college. He is in love with Mars Red that is why am still thinking b/w white and Mars Red.

Ford's booking to allocation policy seems completely messed up and disrespectful to customers. This is why competition is important, if the Duster was better priced, and other options available - as they soon will be - a customer who is being messed about by the system can simply take his business elsewhere.

I don't think companies who disrespect customers can succeed in the long term, in the long run when competition shows up, the culture they are sowing now all over the company and dealerships will prevent them from responding to legitimate customer expectations.
