The insurance company issues you a open cover note with vehicle type and model without details (engine no., registration details etc) on the basis of car pricing (95% of the value or 100% as the case may be based on your choice of cover opted)

Once the car is registered, the details are provided to the insurance company and the policy is issued with endorsement of details. Thus the car is insured right from the time of purchase. Thus one can take the car out of show room on the basis of cover note without any risk. Cover note is good for 60 days.

Its simple.

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

OT - Can someone compare between the waiting periods for Amaze and Ecosport?

It would be good to know if the presence of Ecosport has changed anything for Honda?

My understanding is yes there is change as I received calls from Honda Dealer for my past interest in Amaze and somehow the person was polite as against his previous 2 behaviours / interactions with me [(when I visited their showroom and later on when I called for the proforma invoice - though I could not get the test drive (reason cited that the car is not registered with RTO as yet) and also could not get the proforma invoice on next day (reason cited - we will not dispatch, come and collect if you want to book the car)].

Were they sleeping until now? Even if the company manufactures 5000 units a month, till end of this year they can make 30000 cars, how can they be sold out, highly unlikely that Ecosport recieved 30k bookings.

I might myself cancel my booking of they dont deliver by Oct end, booked on 26th june, if i need, i need the car now and not after an year.

Either the dealers are creating artificial hype or ford has some production constraints.

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

The Ford EcoSport is actually the newer version or a cousin of the Ford Fusion that sold in really bad numbers.
The fusion was certainly a very good car but only lacked any proper character, by character I mean it wasn't sold as a hatch nor an SUV but had 5 doors like they both do, it was a mini MPV. Only a few people saw it as a mini MPV but others mostly saw it another small car that was still bigger and thirstier and pricier. It is a proper driver's car though.
Here I think ford has come across and put out a good product by giving the best of both worlds and which is just right for the current trend, everyone wants to wizz around in SUVs in the city and not worry about potholes and still find a parking space and get the big car feel.
To me, it is still a proper driver's car.

I don't get this. Can't ford make 6k cars a month, considering that the rest of the models don't sell that well?

(give an another 1 month for logistics constraint)

Or even 3k per month, so a 6 month waiting period?

If there is sourcing constraints for ecoboost, then that must make the easier availability of the diesel and 1.5 petrol.

The test drive/demo cars are made in Jan 2013(info: this thread). Did they stop production till the launch?

Beats all logic.

Reasons:

First, the price of the product could have been fixed very late and thus there was no point in having very large stocks ready - as poor pricing could have repeated the history of Fiesta. Also a buyer would not like to buy a car which is manufactured few months in advance, team BHP has several pages of information about VIN decoding.

Second, there could be limitation of space within Ford plant for stocking the manufactured cars. I have seen MSIL facility near Gurgaon and I can standby such limitations of space.

You may be right that this could be hype too. One of my friends has booked his 1.5 Diesel Titanium from Jaipur last Sunday and has been promised delivery during Navratras with no compulsion on accessories or insurance from the dealer.

He has been given the option to decide on these aspects at the time of delivery. Though he has been advised that if he would like to avail finance from outside, the confirmation from the bank is required atleast a week ahead of delivery date.

Sounds reasonable all across.

Honestly - This looks hyped to me. There is no way in the world Ford would do something like this. Has anyone gone to a Ford showroom recently?
If anything I would verify this in the weekend.

I understand Ford and the dealers are excited with the new offering but this would really be killing the goose (if true).

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

I had been corresponding with Ford (both custmail and write2md) and pointing out the malpractices that dealers are doing.

After my latest mail citing further malpractices

Ford rep:
we once again wish to inform you through this mail is that Ford dealerships around the country have started accepting bookings to meet enthusiastic demand of the Eco Sport. Our dealers are accepting booking with a deposit amount of INR 50,000 & and the accessories / insurance (Ford Preferred) quoted are given to understand are purely our valuable customers choice/option only. Further with regard to handling charges/ any pre-delivery expenses that are borne by the dealership they would claim the same from the customer which is a minimum amount.

I don't know how far Ford would go to make dealers fall in line - but mail reverts within 2 hours can be appreciated.

Yes it should be. I have done Delhi to Leh (in Indica) & Delhi to Bangalore (in Ford Escort) in two seperate trips.

Indica faced issues only due to poor ground clearance, pulling power was okay for the trip. Needed help of a group of bikers at two places, but that was fun. Also when you drive you do not need to rest after reaching Leh (which you otherwise should -when travelling by Air to ensure that your body adapts to the climate and altitude)

Just make sure that you take enough rest and so should be your Ford. There are two routes and you can plan accordingly. Suggestions

- Read through travel experiance of others @ team-bhp / other portals about the time of year when it should be best for you to take up this long trip.

- In general Ford Engine should not have any problem, but be more coutious since you will be moving with a new car. Stop @ every 100 km. Do something like 500 - 600 km per day in plains and 400-450 km in hills, start early and stop early in hills.

- If possible plan trip with a group, or join a group from Delhi as you might not find company from Bangaluru. There are few organisers in Delhi (based out of Hauz Khas Village) - do google and you will find info.

Cheers

Bangalore to Srinagar, even Sonamarg (and upto Manali, on the other side) is no issue at all for any car. Beyond that, if you select the right season and places to cover, it should be fine. Xylo/Sumo/Tavera 2wd seem to be the most popular taxis in and around Leh, so an EcoSport with that 200mm GC will be fine too.

Gentle Reminder : Please do NOT use acronyms (e.g. ES, ANHC, T-Fort) when referring to cars. Use the full name only (i.e. Ford EcoSport).

Thanks!

Re: Ford EcoSport : Official Review

I booked the Ford EcoSport on the 15th of June before it launched hoping that I will be one of the first few customers to get delivery. Mine was the 24th prebooking from that showroom. Now here we are 8 days after the launch i have no clue on when the delivery would be, whenever i follow up with sales the only response i get is
"VIN is allotted by Ford and you and we will get the communication at the same time when your car is ready until then we can't help you until that is done"

So all you guys who have pre-booked and already got the delivery dates did you get any communication from Ford after the VIN got allotted ?
