No doubt the A looks a class apart. Feel disappointed for two reasons, one our 120% duty which makes this 13-15 lac car so expensive and second, Merc underplaying the engine. Surprisingly this car is a hit. It has snob value and it ends there. Absolutely no content at all. My TSI which cost half of this is more refined and powerful. No parking sensors even.......Everybody taken an Indian customer for a ride and somehow we enjoy that without complaining!

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

Mud flaps for A180 are costing 10K. Sorry for a dumb (and stingy) question, but is it worth it?

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

Need a small info. A close friend of mine has this Mercedes . Now twice the front left tyre has blown while driving at normal speeds. The tyres that came with it are continentals. Is there a inherent suspension problem or is it the tyres ..
He wants to change tyres , can someone suggest Pirelli or michelin

Was it the same tyre that was blown? Or did two separate tyres blow in the same front left position?

Was he riding on correctly inflated tyres?

Define "has blown".

Has a nail punctured the tread? Has the sidewall ripped/cut? Was it the inside or outside sidewall? Has the bead come off the rim?

Chances of it being Mercedes' fault are very very low. It's probably the fault of the road (large potholes, sharp objects, etc).

First puncture happened about a month or two back, when driving supposedly lost a bit of control, when checked there was a puncture in left front tyre. Now, this puncture was on the inner side wall. Yesterday when he was showing the pictures, I noticed that there was a cut about 3-5 cms and next to it was written outside. Would that make any difference I'm not sure.

Another was, the tyre marking - 255/45 R17 91V
and 255/45 R17 91W on two diff tyres.

The second puncture was about a week back , again a front left, a crack , with a few fiber strands on the outside wall.

If the cut was on the inner side-wall and the text on that sidewall said outside it means that it was an asymmetrical tread pattern that was being run in the wrong direction. This just demonstrates that the person who fitted the tyres onto the rims didn't know what they were doing.

Though this is strange to see, it is okay. Just indicates a slightly different speed rating on each tyre. Are they the same model?

Sounds like a hard impact or rock was the cause here.

While you're at it, check the manufacturing dates on the tyres as well.

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

1000 kms Report

This A180 Style (Diesel)

Some differences with Rehaan's description of the Petrol version:
1. Ambient lighting (sorry the lovely snap of soft lighting under headrest not there)
2. Seats are not all leather - attached snap shows leather + fabric. For me less classy, but a friend found more sporty! Plus worse with kids as you cant wipe of stains:-)
3. Even my 8-year old son finds sitting as the 3rd passenger in rear seat uncomfortable (see the profile of the seat - it is like sitting on a ledge with seat belt grooves etc.)

I have an i20 and I ask myself, how is this worth three times as much. Answer is looks (arguably the best looking car on Indian roads today) and badge (3-star). Otherwise, with a far more uncomfortable ingress/egress due to very low seating, lesser space in the boot (with the spare wheel in the boot, it is more like shopping bag space - even one large suitcase cant fit in, much worse than i20). As Rehaan mentioned the display is of little use other than song listings.

But then, a friend of mine is planning to sell his Superb and buy an A/B-Class as he thinks Superb size cars are a pain in cities like Bangalore. So if you want a convenient to drive city car then what else compares? Audi sales guys say it is worth spending 3-4 lacs more and buying a Q3. Havent evaluated it. Then there is BMW 1-series option in offing. In addition, decision points would be - isn't it worth spending 2 lacs more for a B-Class? Or wait for a few months for CLA?

The latest BRABUS Edition of A class is out.

"Even though the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG has been around for a while now, the nutty tuning specialists from Bottrop were busy squeezing ginormous amounts of power and torque from the V8s and V12s found in its bigger brothers.

Rest assured though, because both the A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG are now available with a Stage One power kit from Brabus, which increases the base 360 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque to a nice and round 400 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb ft) of torque.
There are no mentions of the new 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration figures, but we're guessing they are now much closer to the four second threshold than before.

Plus, that isn't even the most important matter, as the PowerXtra ECU tuning solution just transformed the A 45 AMG above in the Brabus car with the highest horsepower per liter ever. No less than 200 hp per liter were only found in racing cars and the limited production Mitsubishi Lancer EVO FQ400 until a couple of years ago, so this is kind of a big deal for some people."

Now that's a killer.

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

I just love the looks of this car !
Whats the update now ? Is it a market failure in India? Haven't seen too many in Delhi?
Can one score a good discount at a dealership? Im sure there are many unsold cars lying around??
Does anyone have any information on this?

Mercedes-Benz India announces black colour for A-Class diesel.

Mercedes A-Class : Official Review-mercedesa180cdi.jpg

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced a new colour for the sporty A-Class dieseL.
Quote:
The A-Class’ palette earlier included just grey, white and red colours. This benevolence though hasn’t been extended to the A-Class petrol but plans are on to bring the black colour option to the petrol variant and it should be available by next month. The company says that there is no increase in price for the black colour and the A-Class diesel retails at Rs 26,48696 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and Rs 25,24675 (ex-showroom, Thane).

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

I find the A class to be a good value for money package. Seeing how the car prices are flying up, A class is still very affordable and attractive. I recently checked out the A class in black, and I must say, takes your breath away. I was in the market last year (August) around this budget, My heart was set on the A class but due to lack of practicality and non existent deals, I settled for a Passat Trendline (More Power, More space, More comfort,More practical). But I regret that decision till date. I drive alone and A class would have been perfect for me. Anyone who drives alone or with one companion, this is the perfect car, Road presence equal to cars that retail around 50 Lacs.
