Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

-My car makes a weird ceaking sound when I turn the steering below speeds of 20. ( U turns/ parking ). I never turn on a standstill. What could it be?

-Also the stock tyres are heavily cracked and noisy; I thought they would last at least 50k km?
Odo -38 k.

Also, how long have owners' brake pads lasted?

Is it during extremely slow speeds for e.g. when turning the steering wheel to squeeze into a tight parking spot? I had a similar sound coming from the steering while turning the steering wheel in the scenario I mentioned above. The workshop(Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore) replaced the insulator strut assembly(Part no. 546110U000 : Insulator Assy-Strut) under warranty and the sound went away

The tyres on my Grand i10 lasted for around 46k kms before I replaced all four tyres. All of them had very negligible tread left. The car is now at 55k kms on the odometer and I have been advised by the SA to change the brake pads as they have little life left. Will do it in the upcoming regular service.

Thanks. Which brand of tires did you get as stock? Mine are Goodyear.

Thanks. What brand were they and what did you switch to?
It started of at mentioned speeds, but has got worse over time.

In other news, I constantly get 18.5-20kmpl mileage in my car -during winters. maximum of 2 persons, 50 % AC, 50-60% highway usage.

By the mileage I assume yours is a Diesel. Mine is Petrol Asta A/T & usually the mileage is around 11.5-13.5 depending upon my driving, in Delhi with AC on always - winter or summer (for defogging in winters too).

It's a petrol! I don't drive slowly, but anticipate braking and leave the accelerator early. Neither do I go above 3000 because it's not rev friendly and low end is pretty -okay

Congratulations on getting such great life on brake pads, on an AT!

Stock tyres were Good Years. Switched to stock size Ceat Milaze X3s primarily because they were the cheapest(they claim it will last upto 1 lakh kms).

Better have the steering sound checked. In my case, they replaced the EPS Motor twice because of another unrelated creaking sound while turning.

This video should help you.

I haven't tried it as I haven't stored any songs in the internal memory. Let us know if it works for you.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

I bought my stardust grey Grand i10 Magna (November 2014 Manufactured) in February 2015.

Running stats
  • Ownership Period - 4 years 0 months
  • Odo - 38900 Km
  • Usage - Predominantly Bangalore city
  • Tyres - Stock
  • Battery - Replaced within 3 years 9 months at 34500 Km
  • Stereo - Single DIN Kenwood, retrofitted by the dealer

What I still Like
  • Interior quality is still top notch; I have never waxed or polished the plastics
  • Build quality - sheet metal, doors etc.
  • OVRMs are extemely durable. They have survived bikes, cabs & basement pillars
  • Quick to respond petrol engine, in city traffic and
  • Air-conditioner still works like a charm
  • Boot space - a boon for those airport and railway station pick-up and drop trips
  • Experienced and well trained service team

Niggles and dislikes
  • Soil friendly seat upholstery (light shade in the centre)
  • Seat belt is the only safety feature in my November 2014 Magna variant
  • Body roll evident when you hit the curves at any speed above 80 Kmph
  • Horn is very meek
  • Car cleaning during service - better to get it done outside
  • Feedback calls after a service are numerous and a little annoying

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

My Grandi10's Asta (o) 1.2 Petrol came with Exide 40Ah battery and it has been specified in the manual as well.

Is it okay to replace with 35Ah battery?

Agree with almost all the likes and dislikes about previous gen Grand i10. I would like to add few things which I felt while driving the car.

Likes: 1) Silent and smooth petrol engine. Refinement level is too good when compared to competitors

Dislikes: 1) Steering response or feel of it while driving, it's too much light.

I haven't driven new gen grand i10 yet, but I just love this car

One of my friends has booked the sportz AT variant of grand i10. His car has arrived at the dealership. He is planning to PDI today and I will be accompanying him. Anything specific to look out for? Any inputs will be highly appreciated.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

My malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) came on while driving back home yesterday night. It was there today morning also but disappeared when I was reached the service center and the restarted the car again. It has not appeared since. Has any one else faced such an issue?

35Ah battery should work similar to 40Ah battery provided the voltage is same. An only thing is, 35Ah battery will have lesser run time than 40Ah battery.

Higher voltage battery requires less current to do the same amount of work as compared to lesser voltage battery, but it's strongly not recommended using higher voltage battery against company recommendation. But then, if company recommends 40Ah battery, then why are you trying to change it with 35Ah battery?
