Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

Hyundai i10 grand managed 110K enquiries & 10k bookings with 20 days of its launch .

Source ACI:

http://www.autocarindia.com/auto-new...rt-358266.aspx

Considering the fact that in North India, current period of 15 days is considered inauspicious, many people would be deferring their purchase/ bookings, this (10k bookings in 20 days) is a good sign. Hope Hyundai make sure they deliver the cars in time, without making people wait like Ford & the likes.

That's really awesome. I think especially maruti suzuki and respective segment competitors will keep a closer look of hyundai grand sales.

LHD Grand i10 spotted by Shine Koyakkande. Thanks for sharing, man!

Hyundai is obviously betting big on exports with this car.

From the picture above, it looks like LHD Grand i10 front seats comes with head rest.
Please correct me, if I am wrong!

My doubt: Is it such a big achievement that just 10% of the enquiries are converted into bookings? We need to note that on an average, Hyundai sells 7-8K i10s per month. What is the common booking-to-enquiry ratio for other cars? Anyone has any idea?

GTO, I had asked for an exterior shot in the "twilight blue" colour, and you have just provided it here - thanks to you and Shine!

It sure does have adjustable headrests, just like the export models of the i10. The front seat back is also thicker in the export models of the i10.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

In the US the industry average i believe is 5%.

In an earlier article in 2013 in Autocar one of the dealerships for VW reported a conversion rate of only about 2% despite massive offers on in March

The data i am sure can be mined but not readily available.

However another couple of ways to look at this

70,000 test drives from 110,000 bookings : thats about a 65% conversion rate from inquires to Test drives which would be an important metric as well

And conversions can be calculated from test drives as well , probably a better indicator since enquiries would include all kinds of information

if we take it from Test Drives to Bookings , which is 75,000 to 10,000 then we are at approximately 15% which i think is fairly good and possibly on the top end when it comes to industry conversion rates in India.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

The acclaimed kappa2 engine has been used by the older i10 and now, the three siblings (i10, Grand i10 and i20) have used the same kappa2 engine. But what surprises me is the FE derived from the i10, Grand i10 and i20 and their respective weights.

SPECS-------i10---------Grand i10---------i20
FE (P)
----20.36 kmpl-----18.9 kpl kmpl-----18.5kmpl
Weight----860 kgs--------935 kgs---------1066 kgs

* The i20 is a good 131 kgs heavier than the Grand i10, but has an FE of only 0.4 kmpl less than than the Grand i10.

* The i20 is 206 kgs heavier than the i10, but has an FE of 1.86 kmpl less than the i10.

* The Grand i10 is 75 kgs heavier than the i10, but has an FE of 1.46 kmpl less than the i10.

I wonder what makes the i20 almost as fuel efficient than the Grand i10, despite being much heavier than the Grand i10? Am I missing something somewhere?

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

After reading this review, i am a bit confused again if i made the right choice! Test drove i10 grand diesel and i20 diesel back to back and booked i20 diesel sports.

Few points which i noted while comparing both the cars -

- I10 grand has no turbo lag which is great for driving in heavy traffic and this is where the I20 can become a pain.

- Performance - once you push the peddle on a open road u would be a bit dissapointed with the i10 grand's pick up specially after u cross 80. The i20 is just fantastic after the initial lag though it still lacks the fun of the old verna which was 20bhp more.

- Features -No ACC in the asta variant was a big turn off otherwise its fantastic (features wise). I20 has enough features loaded in the sportz variant but height adjustment is sorely missed and the digital fuel gauge too which is available only in the asta variant

- Backseats -Though the space in i10grand is good, somehow i wasnt feeling that comfortable in the back seats when compared to the i20 (maybe because it was a sunny day and the ac cooling on the i10 wasnt that effective).

- Ride quality - again the i20 felt better in potholes when compared to the i10 grand.

- Looks - i20 scores again. the back of the i10 grand looks very pretty but the front looks a bit dated when compared to the new fluidic design.

to some it up

I10 grand

+ Fantastic drivability in the city
+ asta variant is packed with features and worth the money (7.5l on road Hyd)
+ Claimed mileage
- No ACC
- Fixed headrest on the fronts
- Uncomfortable backseats (from my experience at least!)

Would have brought this car if my driving was going to be only city based considering the fantastic mileage and the zero turbo lag from the engine. but i would be regularly going to my farm (about 120km drive) every weekend and this is where i felt i20 would be better due to its bigger engine.

The ARAI test figures depend on many things apart from kerb weight. Curb weight is indeed very important, but there are also other factors at play here, such as gear ratios used, ECU calibration, rolling resistance from tyres etc.

I think (but I'm not sure) that there is also a minor difference in the Kappa engine used on the i10 and the i20/Grand i10. The i10's engine (80PS) seems to have variable valve timing (Hyundai's VTVT technology) only on the inlet valves, while the i20 (84PS) and the Grand i10 (83PS) have dual VTVT (both on inlet and exhaust valves).

It is not an achievement on its own, but, really good news to feed the PR machinery & attract more customers IMO. I feel the conversion numbers are very good, but surely not better than Maruti Suzuki, considering the fact that 25% of TBHP members who polled on one of the thread selecting the fact that they would go for ant Maruti product (brand value).

However, this number has another implication... almost 15k bookings in a month. This could easily become the bestseller for Hyundai in India, & give fierce competition to Swift.

Another factor for the competitors to fear is the under 4 meter sedan planned on this car, which could be the ideal folly to current Dzire IMO.

I would like to see the rear profile of this LHD variant. Hyundai made changes to the 'Grand' i10 for India with a larger rear window, etc. I assume this would have the Euro rear profile (which looks cool !).

I suspect that the export i10 will have quite a few features not available in the Indian version. For example, the front adjustable headrests is one of them. The rear split sets could be another feature on the export i10. Remember, the earlier i10 did not have split seats here in India, but the export model had split seats.

Hey RSR! I have captured few snaps of "twilight blue, Silver, Wine red" of grand i10, when I visited showroom.
I can share the same, if you want to see them.

Yes, GRAND23, please share the exterior snaps of the car in twilight blue and silver - side profile or front three quarters preferred (if you have taken many photos). One of the test cars was wine red, so that colour is already available. Thank you!
