I think it still make sense to go for the maintenance package as average costs about ~13K per service and with inflation it might only go up.

Absolutely. I got a used Octy that had run 6444km after 1 yr 9 months. I ran 3550km in the next 3 months & serviced it for ₹700/-. Even my Enfield used to cost ₹3500 for a oil service! Totally worth the maintenance package the previous owner had paid for!

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Recently got my tyres changed. Here are my tyre logs:

0 - ~50 kms - Good year NCT OEM tyres.

~50 kms - ~55K kms - Michelin Primacy 3ST
- Right out of showroom replaced OEM tyres to Michelin Primacy 3ST. Had very good experience with it. Roughly 3 punctures over the period of 55K kms. I was well satisfied with comfort, grip & noise levels. If I have to nitpick, it is the soft sidewall - one of the tyres had sidewall tear due to stone and had to be replaced. Even at 55K, it could have lasted for another 5K, but breaking performance has degraded.

~55K kms - ~97.5K kms - Conti MC5
- Wanted to stick with stock size as I didn't want to take any chance with Skoda's warranty. Consideration was between Michelin Primacy 3ST vs Continental MC5. Based on feedback from fellow bhp'ians, my cousin and my preference for trying something other than Michelin, made me choose Conti MC5. While I was satisfied initially with the grip and handling, over the period my liking has reduced primarily because of too many punctures. Also noise levels were higher compared to P3ST. Here again I managed to get a stone cut very close to edge of the inner sidewall on one of the tyres. After running of ~42K kms, noticed considerable decrease in breaking performance and upon inspection noticed that tread wear indicator has reached surface level. Clearly the previous set of P3ST has lasted much longer.

~97.5K kms - Michelin Primacy 4ST
- This time since the extended warranty period just got over, I was very tempted to try out 225/50/R16. Not much options available with 225/50/R16. So initial contestants were Michelin P4ST (205/55/R16) and Conti MC5 (225/50/R16). The only reason I was considering Conti was because of no other options in 225 size. But with suggestions from @graaja and @Nikhilb2008, ruled out the Conti 225 option and finalised on Michelin P4ST. But then suddenly thrown into the mix was Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (225/50/R16) with 1.5 yrs old manufacturing date. Now mind says stick with Michelin P4ST while heart says Pilot Sport 3. Again back to confusion. Quick call with @Nikhilb2008 sorted out the confusion and decided to go with Michelin P4ST. Went to Madhu's @ Langford road to get the replacements done. The ride is definitely more plush and quiet. Great note of thanks to @Nikhilb2008 & @graaja for helping out in clearing the dilemma.

Would you mind telling us the amount that you paid for the upgrade to Michelin 4ST? I'm also planning to upgrade to the same tyres.

I paid ~ Rs. 8900 per tyre. I have also opted for the Michelin promise plan (unconditional warranty plan) which costed another Rs. 600 per tyre. Then additional cost for the wheel balancing and alignment.

Sud:
1.How much were the 225/50/16 MC5 being quoted at? Terrible that this size is totally neglected nowadays by all brands.
2. Do you also mind sharing the reasons why it was not recommended?

Does anyone know when the next Skoda service discounts kick in on things like consumables or even labour? Last year they had a 20% discount in December, but strangely enough they never announce it unless specifically asked!

1. I didn't even enquire the price. Even before that it was cut off from the list.
2. Primarily because 205 is more than adequate for 180 bhp car and non availability of better choices in 225/50/16 size. And along this my dislike towards Conti based on previous set experience.
I really wish PS4 had this size

Agree! If only Michelin will bring in the PS4 in the 205/55/16 OR 225/50/16 which are the ideal OEM and correct upsizes (respectively) for the Octavia!

They have already brought in the 205/50/16

What about moving to 205/60/16? Will increase by 3%. Is this a good choice to change when vehicle is still under warranty. Already done 40k kms. Current OEM Goodyears still good for another 5-10k kms. Was enquiring with the MRF T&S centre. They did not have 205/55 in stock but had 205/60 in stock, in Perfinza. Hence checking.

Personally don't think it's worth it. Will raise GC but increase body roll unless the new tyres have stiffer sidewalls. Instead of 60s, better to get the Michelin P4STs in stock size.

re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hello All,

What are the current offers that are running on the Octavia 1.8 TSI L&K or if someone recently has booked the 1.8 TSI L&K?
On my initial conversation with the dealers here in Bangalore, they have mentioned a discount of around 1-1.25 Lakh + corporate/ loyalty bonus of 50K on the L&K variant. For Onyx, the discount seems to be at 50-70K + corporate/ loyalty bonus of 50K. This is before any further negotiations on the table.
I have seen couple of posts from 2-3 months back whereby the total discounts on L&K seem to be around ~2 Lakh, though in different city. I am still contemplating on the Octavia but if I decide to proceed, planning to book around early Jan 2020 (as I want the delivery only in Feb 2020). So if anyone from Bangalore is interested, do let me know and we can work out a group deal!

205/55/16 won't give you any performance edge except a slight increase in GC which in fact will probably reduce the fun in corners. On top of that you are taking chances with your warranty. As @itwasntme pointed out it is not worth it. The best option right now IMHO is Michelin P3ST in 205/55/R16.

Assume you meant 205/60/16 in your opening sentence? I think best option is now P4ST instead of P3ST which is slowly being superseded by the former at the same price.
