Hey Guys,
My bro is looking to purchase i20 Asta(O) petrol model. Wanted to know information regarding the below:
1. Is the ABS offered is 2-channel or a 4-channel one.
2. Can we ask the dealer to put MRF/Bridgestone tyres.
3. Is alloy wheel offered only for 4 tyres, 5th/stepney tyre is a steel tyre?
Many thanks,
Ramki

Yes, it is a steel rim and one size smaller.

Installed Yokohama BluEarth AE50 195*55 R16 on my car. Good Year Assurance tyres lasted only 35K kms. Though enough tread is there to run next 10K Kms , uneven wear at center and very excessive road noise forced me to change them.

Overall Feedback: World of difference in terms of ride, comfort , zero noise except some roads and improved efficiency.

To AC or Not AC

Try to run the car ACC mostly on recirculation mode, unless you are on long drives or there are more people on board.

I think there is a issue with the make of the ACC, for I have driven my car with ACC for 99% of the times with recirculation mode on - and very rarely driven without an AC on. The condenser had to be replaced last year due to water in them getting frozen to ice and no air coming out of the vents.

Again this year I can smell something similar to a petrichor - when I switch on my AC - pointing to a probable condensation again. I really think its a quality issue. With the service/parts cost that I see - I see this as a big damage if I have to get done myself after my 4 year warranty gets over this year.

Really shocked with what I paid for changing the wiper blades [mind you just the rubber portion and not the arm of the metal frame.], The front ones cost 667 each and the rear one just 60. Really beats any logic to me. The rear wipers and passenger side are almost the same length and obviously made up of the same material. Ended up paying 1500 (adding taxes/labour et all) for just the wiper blade replacements.

As soon as I start the car, the default setting is in AM. How do i change it to FM?

We went to Nandi hills yesterday. Just after the last hairpin bend before the parking lot, we noticed a previous gen elite i20 (not sure if it was petrol/diesel) with smoke coming from the engine area. I can't recollect now if it was black smoke or white smoke. My wild guess is that the driver probably climbed the hill with half clutch or with parking brakes on most of the time. Alternately, radiator water may have over heated or something went wrong with engine oil. I can keep on guessing, but let me stop here itself.
I wanted to stop and check on them, but due to the honking traffic behind, I didn't stop. While I returned back a couple of hours later, I noticed that a tow truck had just arrived to take the i20 back. Hopefully no major damage has happened to the car.

Before I crossed that i20, in that start-stop traffic a Honda Mobilio was exactly at the hairpin bend and I was behind it. From stop, the mobilio could not climb and it come in reverse thrice - everytime the driver tried to go forward. Scary! Luckily there was enough distance between me and him, we didn't scratch each other. Finally, a couple of people from the fully loaded vehicle got down and walked for a while until the vehicle could climb the steep incline.
Few minutes later, a similar incident occured to a Santro Xing infront of me while climbing past the parking lot. Twice, the driver tried to move forward but the car kept coming back. Then his co-passenger took the wheels and he managed to ride the Xing to the top.

To make the day stranger, I noticed there were three vehicles that had broke down uphill, including this i20. I have not seen such scenario so far during my recent trips to Wayanad and Yercaud.

Some of the safe practices I follow while driving uphill:
1. I don't worry about mileage and remain in a lower gear for the corresponding speed - this provides sufficient torque to pull the vehicle
2. Use half clutch or parking brakes only to move the vehicle and then ride normally - never with half clutch/parking brakes always on
3. Maintain a good amount of safe distance with the vehicle ahead - particularly when the traffic is heavy
4. Use engine braking while climbing downhill

Am I missing anything? What else do you follow?

Dear All,

My elite i20 (Petrol) is due for third free service this week which has completed 19,000 kms in last 18 months. 80% of the travel is between home - office with daily 30kms. With this scenario, would you suggest me to go with normal engine oli or synthetic oil?

I would like to know this too. Did you manage to find a fix for this? Its annoying changing the mode everytime the car is started.

Do you guys have the 2018 model? Mine is a new one and I have never had this issue. If I switch off the electronics when Bluetooth is connected, it just resumes where it left off when I switch it back on.

I have used both AM and FM but it never goes into AM by default. If Bluetooth isn't connected, it starts playing the FM.

Did you check with the service engineer? A quick call may help you resolve this.

hi friends, has someone added aftermarket double din headunit on Elite i20? I am tending towards head units that have high resolution display and willing to forgo steering control and native USB port connectivity, while replacing the factory fitted headunit, If you have then which one?
thanks in advance.

I have also never had this issue with my Dec 2016 model. If I change it to FM it remains at FM.

Though I don't have a problem with AM or FM band being retained after the car is turned off, I noticed that if a USB stick is plugged in when the car is turned off, the head unit will automatically start playing the USB when the HU (Head Unit) is turned on after the car is started - in other words, even if you shut down the HU and the car in the FM/AM mode, when you start the car again and turn on the HU, the USB stick will automatically start playing.
Not sure if this intended behaviour or not since I don't see this happening on my 2010 i10 HU.
Any comments are welcome.

Sold my almost 4 year old superbly maintained Sportz Petrol First Gen elite i20 yesterday.

Loved the car, absolute peace of mind, never let me down, truly a comfortable, dependable car.

I am relocating hence sold the car, will keep following this thread :)

I am on the verge of booking Asta(O) diesel version. Is the rear AC unit in I20 Elite, just a blower unit or is independent of the front and main AC unit?

Its just a vent. You can only close/ change direction. No speed controls
