Filter was replaced in last November during service. Will get the area cleaned as per your suggestion and revert.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hi BHPians,

Need some idea on how long more tires can be used.

Car model - 2015 Elite i20 Asta
Tyre size - 195/55

So far munched ~41,000 km spanning 4 years 6 months. I still see the treads are intact with good depth. I do mainly highway drives with 2 + 1 (kid). I did regular servicing, wheel balancing and rotation as well.

Mainly concerned about the years and the distance driven.

Thanks,
Manick

Hi Manik,

Tyre life depends on driving style and type of the tyre. A tyre may last between 40K Kms to 60K or 70K Kms depends up on the driving style. Soft compound tyres wear faster than hard compound tyres. Our swift tyres lasted for around 80K. When considering the age of the tyre, it can last for 7 years (as per our Swift's usage). But if the tyre has cracks then it's time to change the tyres.

Thanks,
TK

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

I have a 2018 Elite i20 Asta Petrol with normal key start. The car is 1.5 years old and has done 15,000 km.

Lately, I have been finding that between 3K and 4K RPM, the engine groans. There's a hoarse noise rather than a smooth one.

I have to use this RPM only sometimes to overtake a particularly bothering vehicle. The car is used in Bangalore so there is no scope for high speed/RPM in routine.

Can anyone help me regarding this?

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

I have a 2017 model i20 Asta (O) crdi. The standard warranty expires next month. Is it worthwhile to go for an extended warranty for 1-2 years ?

I do not have much insights on the above and want to know your opinions please.

It is not about spending money, but will it be worthwhile is the question.

PS : My usage is limited - say around 8-10k kms per year. The car has now clocked close to 30k kms.

Thanks in advance !!

Please DO get the Extended warranty, it is of much help, Had my i20 compressor changed worth 20k for free during my 3rd year of ownership, I wouldn't take the chance and get the extended warranty.

DEFINITELY get the extended warranty! I too have 2017 Asta (O) CRDi that had a warranty of 3 years. In 2.5 years the car has done 50k and it'd probably do a similar number in the next 2.5 years. I went ahead and purchased the 4th & 5th year (1.2 lakh kms) extended warranty. Totally worth it just for the peace of mind it brings knowing that the vehicle is covered for 5 years. So please purchase the extended warranty.

Hello, fellow elite i20 owners. I am facing a set of problems that I'd like to discuss in detail. I am anyways taking my car to the dealership to register the complaint but, your advice can help me resolve it sooner as I have mostly seen this Sharayu Hyundai guys work on a hunch.

The problems are as follows:

1. The steering wheel feels more like a hydraulic steering wheel. I can feel every undulation on the road, be it of any kind, being sent towards my hands via the steering. Please note that it doesn't unnecessarily vibrate (like in they case of bad alignment or balancing). It's just that I feel that it's not the car but my hands are bearing the brunt of riding on Mumbai roads. Is this normal? You can feel the road too and does it tire your hands?

2. There is something wrong in the suspension assembly of my car I feel. The car wobbles left right front back passing the undulations inside. I am not talking about potholes etc. It's about every damn thing on the road is being felt by myself and the passengers inside the car. Is this normal? I even changed my tires to a new set of XM2s (195/55/r16). I have been reporting this particular issue to Hyundai dealership. They just check and say everything is fine. To me it isn't. I even did a trial of another elite i20. It's ride felt supple and comfortable. But, Hyundai guys just say that it's normal and they have checked suspension as per their official parameters. What to do?

3. Foul smell in AC. Changed air filter. Got the whole AC cleaned. The smell persists. It especially comes in the mornings. Same smell as you'd have in your home/office because of fungus etc. You got any ideas? Will hyundai's level 3 AC servicing help?

Please recommend something.

Regards

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hi,

Would anyone have pointers on where I can procure a single alloy rim for a 2016 Elite i20 Asta in Bengaluru. The showroom is quoting 12k for one! Just seeing if I can get one sourced outside for less

Any experience with alloy straightening? someone offered that service, though I am very skeptical! Says they'll heat the alloy and straighten it

Also, for aftermarket alloys, has anyone tried 16 inch rims with 205/50 tyres? Any issues with suspension travel?

Thank You!

For Points 1 & 2 - Before the SC/you start digging into the issue, suggest you to do a simple check - check if you are running a low tyre pressure on all wheels.

Point 3 - I hope you run the A/C in re-circulation mode. In the fresh air mode, you will get the out-worldly smells inside the cabin.

Hey,

I have taken care to consider all that could have been the reasons for these issues to occur.

I, infact upgraded my tyres to Michelin XM2 (Nov 2019) to mitigate this issue but to no avail. This problem has been persisting from last 2 years.

This is saddening.

With respect to the air conditioner, Yes, keeping the recirculation mode on or off doesn't affect it. Hyundai has advised chemical cleaning that they will be doing at their own expense.

Check Boodmo.com.

You can check the bent Alloy of our Elite i20 in this post (Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists - India)
I got the Alloy Straightened from my local puncture shop for Rs. 600/- or Rs. 1000/-. I don't remember exactly how many Kms has the car run after that. But Definitely over a lakh Kms. Touchwood.

The Overall Diameter for 195/55R16 comes to 620.9 mm and that for 205/55R16 comes to 611.4 mm. That is 4.75 mm less sidewall.
Also remember you have already faced one bent Alloy. Why do you want to take more risk by reducing sidewall?

Thanks a ton for the information!Super helpful

They're quoting a similar price for straightening here too, with the heating and machine routine. The bend on mine is less, with somewhat of a flat spot

I checked the figures on 205/55 vs 205/50 and the difference in diameter is marginal as compared to stock. Besides could do with the additional side wall height
