Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hi Guys,

I guess today I felt a brake related issue.
Today I was traveling in a slope with gravel spread. There was a vehicle moving in front of me which was so slow. So I had to apply my brakes intermittently. Suddenly I felt like the brake bit is reducing and increasing automatically and with a sound kit-tik-kit-tik-kit-tik so fast. I removed my leg, reapplied the brake and it was fine. Is it something like this which happened to others, or is it just my imagination? Everything for just 1 second or so. So I cant confirm

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hey fellas,

We picked up our elite i20 Asta Diesel in Polar White, last Saturday.

It has been a tremendous experience so far. The car is everything we wanted and expected it to be!

Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review-1.png

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entire community here for their contribution.
It wouldn't have been possible to buy the car, with so much clarity and confidence, if it wasn't for Team-Bhp!

The knowledge I possess today about cars, and I'm quite proud to say it, easily surpasses most knowledgeable sales assistants.
And it's all due to this incredible community.

It's only after we got the car home, it hit us how messed up everything could have been, had it not been for Team-Bhp!
From VIN numbers to PDI, RTO & Handling charges fiasco, zero depreciation insurance, loans & exchange, we knew exactly what we needed to check.

Anyways, I'm going to try and start an ownership thread soon, though I don't really see the point of doing so considering there are so many ownership threads here already, with a wealth of information!

I'll just add these pics I had taken at the time of delivery, for now.

Thanks & cheers!

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Guys please confirm if we could upsize the tyre from 14" to 16" as we have got Magna and it comes with 14" Tyres.

Also can we get the fog lamps for the Magna or do we need to wait or can we fit the Asta or Sportz version bumper...

Yes you can add foglamps from the service center.

Get 16" wheels and go ahead with the upgrade as well

Hi guys any idea when is the touch screen HU version releasing in Elite i20.

Many website says that its going to launch on 8th july but no dealership are confirming the date.

I went and pre booked the Asta petrol 1.2 and told them to allot me the model which will come with touch screen. They kept on telling me that sir we have no idea if it will come or not hence u please go with the model without the touch screen.

Please advice what should i do over here..

As the name suggests, "Ownership Thread" provides an insight to your personal experience. Irrespective of the brilliant threads on TBHP, your personal experience must be unique and that may probably help other prospective buyers. So please do post one as and when you can.

I guess this is just the ABS doing what it's supposed to do - prevent the wheels from locking up (on a surface with less traction, such as the loose gravel you were on).

Let's see - you were going at a decent speed when you come upon this slope with the gravel strewn all over. You had to apply the brakes to slow down to match the speed of the car in front, whose driver was presumably negotiating the gravel-strewn slope very carefully.

So you apply the brakes. The gravelly surface offers much less traction than a normal road, so the wheels are about to lock up and the car would start skidding on the surface.

The ABS senses this and kicks in immediately! Although the speed may be lower than that at which ABS would normally kick in on a proper road surface with enough traction, it still cuts in to prevent the car from skidding on the loose gravel.

The ABS electronics begin to modulate the brakes - this would manifest itself as the the brakes being applied and released several times per second (faster than what any driver can achieve with manual modulation of the brake pedal). This perfectly matches your description:

Quote:
Suddenly I felt like the brake bit is reducing and increasing automatically and with a sound kit-tik-kit-tik-kit-tik so fast.
The result - the car slows down without locking up the wheels and skidding on the loose gravel.

You then release the brake pedal, and apply it again. This time you don't feel the ABS doing its work, as the car has already slowed down to a speed where the wheels wouldn't lock up on the gravel.

My take on your experience - it was just the ABS kicking in and doing what it's supposed to do to.

Your experience sounds very different from the issue that has been reported by some owners on this thread. In their case, the brake pedal becomes hard temporarily (as if it's working without vacuum assistance) after several repeated applications in a short span of time. When they release the brake pedal on such occasions and press it again, it works normally. This seems more like a case of something to do with the booster.

Thanks mate!

Well, I do want to post an ownership thread, but I'm hesitant to post in the same format as everyone else has before me.

So, I'm taking some time to think about a different way to put together the ownership report.

Let's see if I can make something new & with a slight comic touch .

What you must take note of is the common issue that was diagnosed to be the misalignment of the headlights for poor road visibility. A small visit to your ASC will help you through this. Ask them to align them properly.

If you are still not satisfied, feel free to replace the bulbs that are in them with 'Philips Extreme Vision'. Please replace with bulbs of same specification as your existing ones are. Will cost you somewhere between 1200-1400 Rs for a pair. Expect 25-30% increase in brightness and not necessarily in the spread. This keeps your warranty intact.

If, even this fails, a visit to aftermarket installer will be needed. Please connect with your nearest ASC to sort your warranty concerns firsthand for such aftermarket installations.

Hope this helps.

Thanks there. I too had the feeling that the lights were less powerful. Will go for your advise. Previously when I asked about changing the bulbs at the ASC they were not very enthusiastic.
The general trend in my area is illegal dark windshields (even front side) so these people always run on high beam and won't lower them even if you indicate so.

New Jazz is gonna launch. Whooping 27+ Mileage. I have one doubt. Why i20 gives less mileage? I tried sedate driving last day and it reached ~19 Normally I get only 14-15 out of her :( Diesel

Your Elite i20 fuel efficiency figure of 19+ km/l isn't disappointing, whichever way you look at it. The ARAI rating of the diesel Elite i20 stands at 22.54 kpl for the Era and Magna variants & 21.76 kpl for the Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta variants. Some ownership reports did indicate a similar figure for their Elite i20s.

Honda might claim 27+ km/l for the Jazz, but what matters is how much it returns in the real world and not under ideal conditions. Although, for reference, City owners do claim a fuel efficiency figure of ~22 km/l (for highways).

To get the best mileage, do check out this article.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hi All,

Few weeks back I booked Hyundai Elite Asta 1.2 Petrol with Shreenath Hyundai. At the time of booking I told them not to allot me the current model but the new one which is going to launch in 8th July. At that time he had no idea about the same but told me that we can wait by then and then accordingly we can decide.

Today he called me up and informed me that they still haven't received any confirmation on the HU unit model and asked me if I would like to wait or continue with the normal HU version.

I am confused what to do, are we sure the HU unit model is going to be launch on 8th July ? if not then i will go ahead and book the normal one.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Great review and you have sold it well to me with the level of details. To the extend that I have made my parents to buy elite i20 (in pristine blue), which they took delivery today. Happy days.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Folks who have the elite i20, this one's for you.

Do you like the on-board OEM audio system? I, for one, can't stand it. Too much treble, and just no bass/depth at all.

Most of the times, it sounds like a laptop speaker. So, I was wondering what could be done about that.

Before you ask me, yes I have heard other i20's and they all sounded the same. No bass.

I've even fiddled around with the on-board equalizer setting, and it just doesn't sound as good as my other car.

So, does anyone have any idea about what sort of speakers go into the front/back of the i20?

I'm not looking to change the HU or anything like that. No amps either. Just want to upgrade the speakers to get a lot more depth and warmth to my music.
