Congratulations Girish ji. Wishing you miles and miles of happy journey with the mighty Scorpio. One thing which caught my eye is the difference of ex showroom prices in different states. While in pune S10 AT is 13.6 lacs same variant in Srinagar is almost 14.42 lacs. A whopping difference of 80K. Wondering what's the reason for such difference. Happy miles again. :)

Also, I want the dealer to make a bit of direct money. I expect to get better service from them. |
Are you sure about this?
If things go like you presume and somehow the ASC gets a whiff of it, expect clutch changes & AC gas refill every service along with additives for engine, oil, change of wipers & brake shoes, maybe rotors as well and what not...

Dear rajamuneeb,
I am sure there are many factors which contribute to the price difference. Come on - I have found differences in different cities of the same state! I would guess transportation and taxes would be the main contributors. However, I am sure there are many experts on this forum, who can elaborate.

Dear Sheel,
You are right - this possibility definitely exists!
In my experience with various garages of different makes, I have found that my judgement of the persons involved has been 'mostly' right. 1985 to 1999 2-wheelers' and since then 4-wheelers' showrooms and service centers have been 'tested' by me. It is not that I did not ever suffer. But then I never went back! My interactions over the last 1 year with the M&M showroom and a couple of visits to their yard have given me confidence! Of course - time will tell. But I like to give rope! I would rather start with a positive and if any negative has to start - let it be on their side!!
Also, on another note, due to my interactions on TBHP site, the nature of conversations I had were 'different' as compared to the 'other' clients! This was accepted by the SA and his boss! So, again, I hope that they realize I am not a fool and I have access to latest technical information!
In the end, I am being an optimist. Whether I am a realist - time will tell!
Anyway, thanks for the headsup!
Regards,
Girish Mahajan
Dear Scorpio AT owners,
I have a query on the AT. During the TD of the vehicle, I had tried the M mode - unsuccessfully!
I am sure I have seen a description of its usage on TBHP forum. Unfortunately, I am not able to find it again!!
Even the SA does not know anything about it.
Could someone please enlighten me?
Thanking you in advance,
Girish Mahajan

Nothing to beat a personal relationship - without any material exchange. My SA's & I are still in touch even though they have moved out.
Two more stupid questions:
I checked the tyres of my new Scorpio: Bridgestone Dueler H/T 684 II 235/65/R17
I am very happy - I am a fan of Bridgestone tyres!
Q1. The dealer says that there is no warranty card for the tyres! I checked online and found a way of registering new tyres. Is this the right way? Any alternatives?
Q2. I understand the implications of 235/65/R17. What is the meaning of "H/T 684 II"? Even the Bridgestone site is not clear on this!
Note to self: I forgot to note down the manufacturing week and serial number details! I have to remember to do this at the next sighting!
Regards and thanks in advance,
Girish Mahajan

Hi GK sir
The M mode in scorpio is not a true manual mode. It simply locks the upshifting to the max possible rpm. This is usually helpful during the ghat climb/descent.
Hope this helps

Dear 1.2TSIDSG,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
So, if I am in 3rd gear and shift to M, will it hold 3rd gear?
Also, if I cross some min/max rpm will it shift down/up respectively?
Regards,
Girish Mahajan

Exactly.
If i am not wrong the RPM for upshift is around 4000
I dont remember whether the downshift will be to maintain the lowest gear possible or the same gear until the lower threshold is crossed (like 1000).
Hope this helps

Dear 1.2TSI7DGS,
If what you say is true, then during upshifts the car will become real noisy!
Do you have the exact wordings from the manual? I could not find a soft copy to study the AT features!

Girish Mahajan

Yes, it usually does! You wouldnt switch to a higher gear while climbing unless you are saturated in the lower gear
I dont have a manual for ATs but you can search for M modes in auto transmissions (not the tiptronic ones)
erst while toyotas had the option to lock in the highest gear of your choice- D/D3/D2/D1

Dear 1.2TSI7DSG,
Ha! Found the relevant thread in TBHP. It is funny that the 'search' in TBHP did not find it, but Google found it! I used the search logic suggested by you!
Anyway, here it is:

Quoting the relevant part:

Moving on to the M mode, the revs are held much higher in each gear and gives it a sporty edge. This is the one to slot it in if you are in to make some quick moves. The gearbox shifts down two gears at a time depending on the throttle input. There is sufficient power on demand as the box jumps down a gear or two and pushes you forward.

When I had done a TD (about 1 year back), I had started the car in M mode - for testing this. But the high rpm scared me! Next time I need to reach 3rd or 4th gear and then shift to M and see.
Would that be right? Any suggestions?
Regards,
Girish Mahajan

There would be no problems in doing this.
If you are cruising at 80 in 5/6 th gear in AT mode, i would expect a downshift to the 3rd/4th gear to enable the availability of torque for overtaking. I have done this many times while driving on single lane highways to overtake trucks/trailers.
And dont worry about the high rpm... the engine capacity is not exhausted :D

Dear 1.2TSI7DSG,
Thanks for the reassurance. Please realize that all my past experience is with petrol cars which just loved revving! All the diesel cars that I have driven, I have never used high rpm!
Anyway, once more, thank you for giving me confidence.

Good point, you can definitely add it to the list. The position of the fuel lid lever won't be any different from other cars and should be at the right hand bottom of the driver's seat.
..
..
Can you please elaborate on the last 3 items, Ex, Charges & Advance Income Tax. I never paid any of these while making the payment for my TUV, neither were these part of the quotation. |
Dear AutoIndian,
Just a few additions/corrections:
The fuel lid lever is not at the right hand bottom of the driver's seat. It is a small electronic / electric switch on the panel to the right of the driver! :)
I said Ex is Excise. Actually it is Extended Warranty.
One more point to add to the check list is:
Check for warning triangle.

Girish Mahajan
