Is it still an LG deck such as in the old 7 inch version? If so the software may work on my older Scorpio as well.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

I drive a Mahindra Scorpio and my car does not come with an underbody/ engine protective cover. Is anyone in Hyderabad aware of any fabricator who can custom make an engine underbody cover.
And adding an underbody cover for the engine, will it affect the car handling ? Please help me understand.

Is there a difference in the air filter between the 1st / 2nd generation (VLX 2.2 Mhawk) and 3rd generation (S10 2.2 Mhawk)? Mahindra seems to have different part numbers for the two though they look about the same size and shape, and are both oil impregnated foam filters.

Check this

https://www.m2all.com/searchresult/?...0for%20scorpio

The 2nd Gen Scorpio with Mhawk uses part # that ends with 2261N , INR 625 in the web page link below. I checked this with my invoice part no#.

The 3rd generation filter is also available in that page at INR 618.

Alternatively, you can get it changed at the garage, they don't charge anything extra to change only air filter.

Yes, the Boodmo links were to the same part numbers. Just asking what change took place if any because the 2nd gen came with the exact same mHawk engine that’s in the 3rd gen Scorpio. Why a different part number, any idea?

Absolutely! I have been traveling a lot through outskirts of MP and UP last few days. I saw hell a lot of Scorpios and Safaris. Felt like those people holds certain power in the society. Product placements in the right movies will have great impact. Well done Mahindra

They are saying that the MAF sensor is different and so is the filter for S10. Perhaps depends on the batch that was rolled out this could be different among the same S10 as well.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Official Review

This is a very nice find - some kind soul at an oil wholesaler’s website published the data sheet for Mahindra’s Maximile Elite gear oil. Impressive spec I must say. API GL5 80w90 and even certified for a US military spec.

https://sriramagencies.in/products/A...%20%287%29.pdf

Screenshot of a single page pdf attached for easy viewability.

If you want alternate brands - this matches much the same spec though 75w90 (which covers 80w90 so that’s fine). I changed this into my S10 about 7k km back and performance has been excellent.

I know this is old, and a bit OT comment here, but feel compelled:

Don't assume that the pro's always know what they're doing.

Even in the old days, it never saved much fuel - this is pure, untested/unverified common belief based only on what SEEMS intuitive/logical (similar to headlamp masking, if anyone remembers that useless exercise!). For sure, it was always a dangerous thing to be in neutral on steep gradients where brakes would be ridden heavily and continuously - I've been on some scary rides with cars packed with people and the smell of burning friction materials and the vibrations of warping drums/rotors. The cost of having to prematutely replace brake components due to excessive wear almost certainly did more damage to the purse than any bit of extra fuel would have all those years. And nevermind the dangers of brake fade, God forbid your calipers should overheat to the point where old (more watery) brake fluid boils... a real death-wish.

Re: fuel savings (or not) one has to keep in mind how a manual diesel IP and its governor functions... with foot off accelerator in or out of gear, fuel delivery is very minimal.

Whereas with modern cars, rolling in neutral actually WASTES (not saves) fuel, except on very mild inclines.

How? The ECU reads the engine rpm (via the Crank Angle Sensor) while engine-braking and sees it's high... while also seeing from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that the foot is off the accelerator, and that the driver wants to go slower, not faster... So it is smart enough to cut fuel delivery through the injectors completely!

Whereas idling down in neutral DOES use a bit of fuel, to keep the engine running. So a waste of brakes AND a bit of fuel there - Overall a bad / useless practice usually more costly/risky than beneficial.

The correct practice is to downshift when going down and incline and ALL experienced drivers in the hills do it ALL the time. This reduces brake wear and increases control over the vehicle manifold.

When you go down an incline in neutral, you do not have engine braking resulting in excessive brake wear, heat and inability to control the vehicle in case of a brake fade/failure.
Correct re: correct practice, unfortunately incorrect re: its universal prevalence among experienced hill drivers. I wish what you said were so, but have often seen neutral-rolling "professional" drivers in many hill states (even am related to one of them). I even recall that upon the announcement of the M800's impending discontinuation, taxi-wallahs in the Northeast were snatching them up BECAUSE lacking vacuum-assisted brakes, they could be "safely" (to their thinking) rolled down hills and enjoy normal.braking with the ignition off... unlike the Altos which had power brakes standard, which didn't work great with engine shut down.

Sad but true.

You wouldn't believe how quickly my father-in-law burns through rotors and linings in Mizoram... Army/gov/private taxi driver for decades, has a basement full of worn-out rotors, but still lives to roll in neutral... And you can't reason with him.

Cringing at how naive I was back then! After turning 18 last year and having driven and ridden through the hills a solid 3-4 times, I wouldn't dare to leave it in neutral. Learning everyday, thanks!

Re: Mahindra Scorpio : Official Review

Changed oil to Feo in my Scorpio now, the first time in quite a few years of using Amsoil. But Amsoil is shipped from Pune, and with the lockdown like conditions in Maharashtra why take a risk?

Plus I need to go to my native for a religious ceremony for my father in the next few days (I know, I know .. risk) and the oil needed a change first.

Amsoil is wonderfully smooth and has reduced the engine noise to a purr instead of a growl, but doesn't last much beyond 10k km. So I doubt if there is all that much of a tradeoff from using Feo or a high quality mineral and changing oil more frequently.

Feo will make the mHawk start to sound like a tractor by the time it has run 8k as it is.

Use Feo and change it once a year, it should do just fine. Our 2014 mHawk vehicle idles at 50db -Cold start in a closed garage as measured from the driver's seat with all windows rolled up and she's nearing 90K on the odometer. Once warms up the noise level inside is even lesser.

The 3rd generation is quieter as I have observed in our 2016 model, I believe this is what you have.
