One question though,I couldn't find any reference to availability of airbags although i saw in one of the pictures that the steering wheel has an airbag. What about front passenger, is there one or only the driver gets the airbag?
Excellent review. I really like the details provided like the under body protective casings (Sump Guard and Fuel Lines Guard) which don't get mentioned anywhere else. It is such details that differentiate a good car from bad one.

The front passenger also gets one. Did read a review on motoroids website , mentioning dual airbags.
But we need to wait for the detailed specifications model wise to be uploaded on the Renault website to know which model gets what. Expect something similar to Duster wherein RXL gets only driver side and higher models get both the airbags.

Good catch. It should be "second" row, not third row. will correct it!

This is real competitor now to Innova and Mobilio for the first time. Clearly they are targeting the Innova & Mobilio more than Ertiga. Price starts are same for both Lodgy and Mobilio, 8.19 Lacs. For me it looks decent, not bad. Will eat sales for Mobilio for sure. Looks much better than it.
Ertiga will not get impacted but Innova should be worried a little now. People have better option now. Specially luxury cab people will be happy with this. It has much better mileage than Innova. Let's see how market responds :)
Splendid Review of the Lodgy...been waiting to read on this and it was worth the wait.
The most important thing which struck me is the point made on refinement and smoothness of ride the lodgy offers. If it can provide a silent cabin during long drives then that is a definite thumbs up unlike the noisy Innova at speeds above 100km/h. I feel Renault has a winner this time. Let us wait and watch.

The Lodgy, will and should hit hard on the Innova's 5000 sales a month. Its the prefect balance of power, comfort and practicality.
Only chink in the armour is the middle row, which doesn't slide. Renault has a trump card here, and I hope it doesn't mess up anything like it did by suddenly increasing the prices of the Duster.
ASS too should be reliable considering how common this engine is;

Sorry to be a spoilsport for some folks here, but I dont really see how the Lodgy can be viewed as a serious threat to either Innova or Ertiga/Mobilio.
- Probably, the first and foremost concern of anyone buying an MUV over an equivalent sedan or compact-sedan is the space and practicality. All 3 above have it beat here. Cramped last row may be acceptable for families with kids, but a cramped middle-row is acceptable for nobody.
- While it might be more car-like compared to Xylo, even equivalent to Innova, it cannot beat Ertiga and Mobilio, which are built on sedan plaftorms, rather than SUV ones, when it comes to squeezing into tight parking spaces, and maneuvering narrow, crowded roads.
- Long term reliability, ease of maintenance and ownership costs are nowhere in the same league.
The MUV segment is designed for space and practicality, and the Lodgy scores on neither point. It tries to be different, but it lands up in no mans zone in the middle.
The Duster was a hit because it was a unique product and a first in its segment. But the Lodgy has got some very serious and established/proven competitors. It will be difficult to get the general public to shrug that off and buy it.

The middle row is not cramped by any standards. It is just not as spacious as the Innova. Additionally, what is the point of an 8 seat SUV when the last row is simply rendered useless. At least it is usable here.
The Lodgy is based on the Duster platform. And talking about parking space in context to an MUV is like having your cake and eating it too. Remember, being based on sedan or ehhm hatchback platforms is a disadvantage not an advantage. Both the Mobilio and Ertiga are extremely narrow and cause problem when three people are sitting abreast.
The 1.5 DCi engine is a proven workhorse and is used all around the world. It has no reliability problems as such. Agreed, ASS might not match Maruti and Toyota, but it on its own is not an issue. With so many Dusters on the road, the service centres are competent and do a decent job.
The Lodgy is practical and spacious and I have no doubt that it'll set the charts on fire.

Finally the reliable Innova has a competitor. What Renault needs to do now, is beef up it's ASS and Customer service. As for exports, it's been happening since quite some time.
Excellent review as usual - great job!
My take on the vehicle - it is boxy and too squarish. Very few people would choose it for personal usage. But it is ideal for fleet/tour operators and for cab market. Remember Logan did so well in the cab market - Lodgy with same durable workhorse engine and with additional space and comfort levels would be an ideal one for cabbies.
Direct competition with Innova.
Higher fuel efficiency, longer intervals between services, and lower initial cost may turn the tide in favor of Lodgy.
Lets see, whether Innova numbers are dented in coming months.
Ertiga/Mobilio may not be impacted much as their target market is personal use rather than commercial ones, however lets see.

Excellent Review guys:thumbs up Well deserved 5 stars.
Renault has made a brilliant move by targeting the MPV segment, and IMO people will start looking at this car instead of paying 4 lakhs additional for an Innova until and unless he is a vivid fan of Toyota.
Overall a neatly designed MPV for Indian market with all the bells and whistles, but as mentioned in the review sliding 2nd row seats would have been an added advantage along with rim size and the boxy design at the rear.
But we need to wait and see how well it attracts the taxi segment and take over which Innova has done in the last decade.
Wake up Toyota, you have got a competitorlol:
