Re: 2015 Mahindra XUV500 Facelift : Official Review

Yesterday I gave some workout to rear axles of my XUV. Went for a short drive on few mild off-road trails in my area. It is not a hardcore 4x4 trail but 2wd vehicles loose traction due to loose gravel and steep inclines. I have seen Mahindra pickups engaging 4x4 high when they loose traction while climbing these trails.

XUV has performed well and met my expectation from its AWD system. There was no wheel spin , it just climbed silently and at no place it lost traction.

There was a some sort of sound from the rear axle upon taking sharp turns during reverse with AWD lock switch engaged. Is it normal or anyone with XUV AWD faced it before?

I wish XUV AWD had a little short first gear ratio to somewhat compensate the missing low range gear box.

While coming down I used HDC and first gear combo and It worked well without any drama.

Few PICS from the top of the mountain. I do not have pictures of the trail and will ask a friend to accompany to capture a video next time.

How do I find this out? Tried to look for this info, couldn't locate it.

In other news, back from a 750 KM trip this weekend with 5 people onboard, packed with luggage, beautiful scenery and non-existent road. The beast behaved flawlessly

Hey Nikhil, sorry for the delayed response. I have been out of town with no network last week.

Here are couple of images. Pardon me for the image quality. If this doesn't help, I'll get some better pictures for you.

The cable you see dangling is only to charge the unit and can be removed once charged. I usually just let it stay there as I have got used to it.

Press Mute and Settings (left top and right bottom) keys on the panel simultaneously and you'll see engineering menu where you can see version info. Plz post pics.

What's the easiest way to fill air on the spare wheel mounted below? Is there a way to do it without bringing it down?
I am probably lazy to do that but on the other hand I'll make others in the queue wait a little longer.

It has been my practice to pressurize the spare wheel to 42 psi so that the frequency of filling is reduced drastically.

Re: 2015 Mahindra XUV500 Facelift : Official Review

hi guys i am in the market to upgrade from my 6.5 year old 2.6 CRDE Scorpio LX. I have clocked 1,25,000 in it and it has served me really well, but the time is right to move on.

I test drove the W8, 2 wheel drive XUV500 today in Jammu. The drive was quite decent i have to say, maybe i was expecting too much of an upgrade coming from a base model Scorpio to a monocoque chassis vehicle.

Interiors are again decent, a 8/10 rating from me. Maybe im biased but i feel the older Mahindra parts and interiors just looked more solid.

I did feel the steering wheel to be a tad small and toyish after the Scorpio.

My confusion is this- i do most of my city driving in delhi, gurgaon and jammu.
Once or twice a month im on the highway between these cities and across North India, clocking between 800-1500 kms a month on the highway.
In addition to this im at my farm twice a week where it can get very slushy in the rains. the scorpio sank in last month and had to be tractored out.
In the next year i intend to goto Ladakh, Spiti and other hill stations along with the usual long highway drives.

Should i go in for the W8 AWD or W8 standard? Or then do i save some money and get the W6 ?

The main things missing for me in the W6 are the side airbags and ESP, Hill assist controls. Rest i can do without or have fitted from outside.

Would love some inputs and thoughts ? i am tempted to go all in and go for the W8 AWD, because it will be with me for atleast 5 years.

Thanks

Kundan

Hi Kundan. I would suggest you to go for the XUV500 W8 AWD. The reason being that you mentioned you go to your farm and may encounter slushy roads. Also, as far as I know, most hill stations in the north are quite slippery and hence AWD can help you incase you plan on hill trips. Plus, you get all safety and multimedia features loaded in the W8 variant. It will serve you well for the next 5-6 years as W8 variant seems more future proof and bankable than a W6.

I do the same thing Ravi Sir and have seen that I only need to top up once in 6 months or so when the PSI comes down to about 34 or so.

Re: 2015 Mahindra XUV500 Facelift : Official Review

I am planning to buy an xuv500 w10. I just have a little confusion. I have visited two dealerships and saw W10 variant. At one Dealership W10 had Window chrome lining running till the last row and at the other dealership It had the chrome lining till second row only. In the above pics shown in post 556 it also has chrome lining till second row only.
Help

The chrome line that runs end to end is being stopped now. The last portion stuck on glass is not holding up properly and couple of parkings in hot sun would take that off. So to avoid that thing, M&M has now started rolling new cars without that line on last glass portion near C pillar.

So if you see one without that line - its a new batch (post mid July mostly). And one with it, is an old batch
