Re: 2015 Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Hello BHPians

An update. I opted for 2018 over the 2017 model. I lose 68k benefits but that's ok. My Pearl white baby, the Storme 400 VX has arrived and I did a brief PDI.

No external or internal scratches. The interior at the last row was a little dirty at some places, nothing that the Tata pdi cannot take care of.

I wanted the urban bronze as my ciaz is also the same color and I love it. Storme being a slow moving car, I had to wait it out for 2 months for the urban bronze to be here. Now that I have already given off my DICOR, I needed the car ASAP. Hence settled with pearl white.

The color looks brilliant in person. I am happy that I got the pearl white.

Engine is neatly arranged compared to my DICOR. The car looks beautiful Checked the VIN- Jan 2018. Delivery mostly by Thursday.

Standing besides is my another ride quality champ- the Ciaz

The truck went for tyre change at 68k. The original Bridgestone aged well and never let me down. This time went for wider 245 Bridgestone AT. Now shoes have resulted in smoother drive and wider tyres with white brand name highlights add to the road presence of the truck.

Can you please share pictures of the same? Would like to see as to how it appears.

Tyre change at 68K km! Mine are currently just past 52,400 km mark. And the front two are still stock and have good grip.

But am a little worried on the rear set. The local shop, Concorde SA says they will last for another 4-5K kms. Still concerned whether to press for a change.

Please share the pics of the 245 Bridgestone tyres on the car. How much did they cost each. Is yours on alloy wheel or steel rims?

Congrats on the Pearl White color

Trust me, Pearl White may looks easy to maintain. Bronze, on other hand is hard to maintain when it gets dusty. Over a period of time you will love this color in many ways.

Any plans to pump the ride like, tyres / ICE. Does your vehicle have one of those IRVM integrated reverse camera?

Re: 2015 Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Storme tires last very long. I am at 50K with the tires looking good enough for another 10-12K atleast with normal driving.
But I'm a bit worried now with the rear kicking out of a few wet patches. I think due to the overall aging and hardening of rubber, it is time to give change a thought.
Even I'm considering 245/70R16. Yokohama G015 seem to be the likely choice given the H rating they come with.
Others have T or S rating.

They still had another 5k on them but with an impending 1000 km road trip coming up I went ahead and changed them. 8k a piece including GST. Will share pics soon.

I am used to stock 16/235 of the safari. So no upsizing.

Sadly new Storme does not get irvm integrated reverse cam. There isn't a reverse camera at all. You only get the parking sensors with basic display on the sound system display.

Surprising to see low numbers like 68k for tyre change. My sumo Grande had bridgestone duellers that lasted for a whopping 90k km.

My safari dicor's Apollo's lasted for 75k.

You probably are a great driver and you probably had one off trucks.

The dicor and the TCIC we had and most of the ones at the Tata workshop had tires changed at 25k kms. Due to the most common issue of it eating the front right tire very very fast.
That's why I'm pleasantly surprised at my own 400 having a great set of tires even at 50k. Also I use my truck on daily city drive as well as a few broken country mountain roads etc. So it is bound to have more tire wear.

Re: 2015 Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

The tyres can last long. Unless there is a fault in the setup, the other major factors would be soft compound - and more importantly, regular hard braking. The stock Bridgestones on my Sumo went upto 97k. My Michelins on the Storme are @ 63k, going fine. Btw, it's been 5 wheel rotation for both vehicles.

Re: 2015 Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

5 Wheel rotation will start now for me as Tata saved peanuts by providing a steel wheel instead of a Alloy on the VX. Now I'm getting another alloy for my tire change. Hopefully should see this set of tires lasting properly long.

Another point I'm happy about is the proper tire wear. It's not uneven even if it has been quick by Teambhp standards.

I have always gone in for only 4 tyre rotation and left the spare as is till I sell the car. Let's me purchase 4 new tyres instead of 5 at a 20% shorter life but always ensures all tyres on the road have equal life front or rear, Right or Left. This gives me greater peace of mind.

If one tyre has a mishap and needs to be changed suddenly then bring in the one from the spare to add to the new one and put the partially worn out pair in the spare.

Earlier I too went in for 4 tyre rotation for most of my cars and kept my spare intact so while replacing the tires, I need to buy only 4 as against 5 Tyres.

This of course works when one plans on retaining the same brand and type of tyre.

For my Fortuner, I was clear that I will shift to a more aggressive AT tyre once the original set wears off, so I went for 5 tyre rotation from the beginning.

The logic of using 4 tyres by itself is fine, but when a situation like this happens, you will end up with one good tyre ( the new one) and one older, harder tyre. For those who are particular about "maintaining one tyre completely new" or "wearing out 4 tyres faster and thus have new tyres sooner", this point about age-mismatch should be equally important.
( newer tyres sooner = the set is not used for more than 4-5 years, unlike people who use their tyres longer)

And then, when 2 tyres are new and 2 are old, the rotation pattern also changes. He can do only front-back and right-left swaps, unlike the newer load/Road-force based rotation which balances the tyres much better.

Re: 2015 Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

Hello all,

I took the delivery of my Storme VX yesterday.

Initial observations:

1. The car is silent! DICOR was audible, storme is way calmer
2. Brakes are better
3. Clutch is light
4. It feels more of a car than a truck to drive
5. Interiors are better
6. 6th gear is a boon - 100 at 2k rpm and it is very calm inside the cabin
7. Fuel lid opener position is foolish
8. Side panels (wheel arches) feel flimsy, so unlike the DICOR
9. No net at the 3rd row floor :(
10. Performance improvement not very tangibly felt (18bhp over my DICOR's 138 BHP), but the driveability is improved, specially in lower rev ranges
11. AC works like a charm
12. Inner window rubber linings feel hastily put together
13. Underthigh support at the front seat seem like they have been cut short from the DICOR dimensions, not unsupportive though.
13. Rear without the spare wheel does feel awkward
14. Doors are easier to close, a gentle pull is enough. DICOr doors needed force to shut close.

Overall it is an improvement over my DICOR, in a lot of ways.

7 - you will get used to it. After the initial un-intentional use, I got used to the position quickly.
8 - no problems at all. No one has complained of these falling off
9 - yes, they should have continued it. Initially it was there

13 - Agree. The seat base is short.

14 - you will get used to this too .. moving the wheel below has helped improve the stability too.
