Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Hi BHPians,
I recently bought a pre-owned S-Cross 1.3 and have noticed the need to slot into 1st gear during speed breakers and after slowing down to near stopping speeds. Is this because of the turbo lag and hence normal for 1.3 90HP multijets? The car drives fine and is butter smooth except for this little problem.
Please let me know if this is normal or something to worry about.

Keep revving,
Anandakrishnan A

@countrydriver - I rarely have to slot into first gear unless I come to a complete stop or it's an incline. It may be a driving style thing.

Hope so, maybe it's something to get used to

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has managed to get their headlights changed via insurance. Mine is a Delta 1.6 (pre-facelift) and was thinking if it's possible to get it changed to the Alpha ones.
I know the light output isn't all that great but that can be managed with a pair of good fog lamps. The Pre-facelift's Bi-xenon look delightful.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Hi folks, my 4 year old S-Cross has suddenly gone crazy it seems. Everyday between 9 am to 11.30 am, its siren begins to sound at full blast. I called Maruti on road, they did something which hasn't resolved the issue. I have turned off the shock sensors, alarm but no luck. Car spent almost the entire last year in parking, it has begun to run from last month or so.

Anyone ever experienced it before? Its crazy what happens between 9 to 11.30!

The pre facelifts bi-xenons look delightful, but do not serve the intended purpose. Their illumination is akin to candles at night. Since yours is a delta, please change it to 90w/100w with relay and you should be sorted.

And No, you can't change headlights via insurance, unless you go damage the car first

Hi CountryDriver, You are not alone. I also face same issue. My car does not hold 2nd gear below 10 km/hr speed and I dont want to slip the clutch. So I shift to 1st gear.

If I could one day drive at 80, guess I could also get those figures. But while I like my cars to be efficient, love the fun of driving more.
Speed limit on most Uttarakhand highways around my place is a meagre 50kmph. Speed guns in North are deployed in police cars so their locations can be random rather than fixed location of Speed cams. Thats why I tend to drive slow.

Yes, I faced it last month. It was really embarrassing in office parking.
With my experiments, I discovered changing the MODE (A&D) in MID settings will totally deactivate the antitheft system(changing sensitivity and turning shock sensors off didn't helped). It is a temporary solution.
Try the following two things:
1. Reset all settings to default in MID
2. Disconnect the battery and connect again.
I request you to share the results of above two if possible.

After a week, I took it to nearby NEXA service centre, they confirmed it's buzzing unnecessarily. After doing a lot of questions, I have gathered the following information (don't know how correct it is):
1. Anti theft system is inbuilt in ECU.
2. They don't know where the shock sensors are located.
3. It's buzzing due to wind blowing (not acceptable to me)
4. They just set sensitivity back to default and it's perfect now.

I repeatedly asked them how did they resolve it but their response is mentioned in point 4. (I already tried it myself for a week but it didn't worked)

It stopped faulty siren alarms after that day.

I also asked them how can I know my car battery's manufacturing date, they didn't tell.

I asked them to give me old service bills for my record, refused again.

Whenever I ask them anything they just politely refuse or change the topic.

+1. The only reason that I don't like the car is because of its high turbo lag and constant push by the car to shift to a lower gear. Otherwise, this is a great buy

BTW my car engine started producing a weird hissing sound a few days ago. My warranty is expiring on 18th March (3 years) so got it checked. The SM told me that the bearing has turned faulty and is getting replaced. Is it normal for engine bearing to go faulty at 90,000 km?

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

@rickygupta - I know what you are talking about. I had that feeling early on since my other drives like the Figo 1.4 and the 85 bhp Terrano & 138 bhp Harrier had different driving characteristics.

The trick with 1.3 vgt mjd is to hold each gear a little bit longer. So for other cars i upshift a little bit earlier but with Scross I hold the gear longer. So I upshift around 2000 rpm only when I feel that i can maintain a constant speed . I end up using the third gear a lot when I drive in the city and the 4th gear when I do single lane high ways with 70/80 km speed limits. The fifth gears are used in the 4 lane roads primarily.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Bridgestone vs Michelin vs Continental

It is time to replace the tyres of my Scross 1.3. I can see the wear and tear now and I do not want to stretch more ( 5 years, 47k KMs).

I have had the best experience with Bridgestones with my previous car for 60K KMS without a puncture or any other issue. The current Michelins have also done a decent job, especially road grip and braking performance.

However, now I want to explore Continental too.

What is the recommendation of the members?

P.S. - I find Bridgestone Potenza GIII to be really good tyres based on reports.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Hello everyone,
I think this is my 1st post on this thread. But this is one of my most visited threads and I have almost read all posts here. I have read the review at least thrice and very few auto journalists come close to the details that TBHP review provides.

I currently own a Scross Alpha 1.3DDIS 2019 model which has done 26.5k KMS in 22 months. The car has been running fine with no complaints. It is a very practical car for daily usage and highway runs.

On 20th March 2021, I returned from office and parked the car. When I shut the engine, the following error was displayed on the MID.
Maruti S-Cross : Official Review-error.jpg

I tried starting and shutting the engine 2/3 times and the error persisted on shutting the engine.

I checked the manual and found the error to be connected to the battery system.

However, I have taken an appointment at MASS for tomorrow and not used the vehicle since last error. I shall check with them update.

Keyfob battery has drained out it seems. Or about to give up. Try with the other fob and see if the error persists.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

At 59k KMS in just under for years (Mine is a Zeta 2017 May), I'm now hearing an annoying creaking noise, I think it is from the front seats/arm rest area and the dashboard. 60K service was done recently and the SA said he doesn't hear anything but will tighten the seat height adjustment system on the driver's side. This hasn't helped much (assuming that they even did this). I think this underscores the poor built that Maruti's get bashed for. I'm not going to buy a Maruti after this.
