UPDATE

I started the car today and took it to Andheri MIDC MASS. No problem encountered today. Car started and shut normally.
Tried replicating at MASS. Found no issues. However, as a precaution, the SA checked the Car battery and found it perfect. He changed the Key FOB battery for being double sure.
He let me go with a nil invoice and said everything is perfect.

My factory Warranty is expiring in April end. He suggested to buy 3 years EW for 29.5K. Thinking of going for it. Insurance Renewal is due in April. So some 45-50K costs coming up next month.

Hoping positively this error doesn't occur again. The SA said it's nothing major and the car will function normally.

Did you get a chance to discuss the timing chain with the mechanic?

Yes I did. They gave me a quote of 25K!

Here is the rough quote:

I don't see anything mentioned in the owners manual and since I get the car serviced at an FNG, I want to double check.

With Maruti and 1.3 DDiS, this has been the case. There is no interval (Km) specified for timing chain replacement.

I got my Ertiga's OE chain replaced at 120K that too after a lot of apprehensions running in my mind while the experts and mechanics at ASCs kept referring to a noise that they generally get to hear and ascertain if the chain needs replacement.

In fact, they also told that once the noise starts, the cars can run for at least 10,000 Km without issues before replacement of the chain. At one of the ASCs a Service advisor was also ready to take me to a Dzire that has come for timing chain replacement to make me hear the timing chain noise so I can compare that with mine (I never did though).

Finally, at 120K I replaced the chain fearing that it may break one day.

The Odo is now 2.08L Km and the next replacement will happen only around 230-240 and not before that. However, I have a lot of friends who own the first gen Swift and Dzires who have never replaced the chain with Odo around 140-150K km too.

It is high time Maruti published a standard interval for replacement of timing chain.

My 2007 Swift VDI ran for almost 2.7 lakh km without replacement of the timing chain. How much did the change cost you? More than cost, I don't want to take chances with something that is actually working fine.

Not sure. The discussion of timing chain replacement was initiated by me, not by them. They are not pushing me to get it done. I need to verify the items in the list before I say yes to them. A very competitive FNG told that timing chain replacement can be done in 7k to 8k.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

That is exactly what my FNG told me: 8-10k.

His tentative list included - Timing Chain, Chain guides (2), Chain adjuster, Oil Pump seal, Chain cover packing, 3 bond silicon tubes.

I had paid around 9k at Maruti dealer for timing chain related work in 2018. It was SX4 though, parts should be same as S-Cross.

Here is the rough quote:

You need to quiz them on why they are so eager to change the oil pump and the water pump. Both of these are absolutely unwarranted unless they are found to be leaking. The cost of these to components alone comes upto around 5K+.

Secondly, what is a lifter? This component alone costs 5K+. I think you need to question them on why these components need changing. As far as I know, the chain itself, the chain guides, the chain sprocket and tensioner along with oil pump seal is all that needs to be changed.

No please don't. I'm struck at 63K since 2019 Dec & don't hear any of such things. Except I doubt the suspension rubber mounts may have to be changed as there's a thud when running over potholes.

Is the ASC your regular one at Porur Nexa?

A water pump may suddenly give-up one day without any apparent signs is what the ASC contests.

Since the components related to timing chain are dismantled, the access to water pump is easier. This is the single most reason why they advise to replace water pump along with timing chain as the pump alone is not expensive and you save on huge labor if you were to get only the water pump replaced tomorrow and needless to day, pro-active replacement of a crucial component before it fails on you!

Our S-Cross gave this error when the battery was due for replacement along with occasional starting issues (surprisingly only after some running). Since the battery was old we got it changed anyways and haven't seen the error since.

Not sure why you are getting the error if battery is all right. I believe this is not related to key fob though. That gives a different error mentioning replacement of key fob battery. I guess you just need to wait and watch. However maybe get your battery checked from a battery specialist once.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

I am in search of the black and white strips floor mat that was part of the initial accessories of s-cross. Could not find it online or Maruti Accessories in Bangalore. If anyone knows where it could be available, please let me know.

It stopped faulty siren alarms after that day.

Thanks, my issue is finally resolved. I took it to service station who kept it for a day. The problem was with a sensor just to the left of bonnet lock. There are sensors all over, doors and tailgate. The banged the body shell to diagnose the problem.

Usually I get high winds and movements near my area in the morning. This vibration was picked up by the sensor which thought someone has opened the bonnet while the car is locked and it used to begin screaming at full blast.

The bill came to little more than thousand bucks.
