Turbo lag in 1.3 (DDiS 200) is very minimal. If used properly, even may not feel this lag anywhere. 1.6 is a different game.

S-Cross has better NVH than any other Maruti cars using the 1.3 MJD & your point on lousily maintained cabs are the reasons probably.

If you're having a 1.3 then your reasons are right; But if it's 1.6 you have, then some stats for you...although Fortuner has 420 NM torque & 175 Bhp, it weighs over 2 tonnes, so here the better player is S-Cross 1.6 which has 92.5 Bhp/tonne compared to 81.6 Bhp/tonne and 251 Nm/tonne compared to 196 Nm/tonne of torque of Fortuner. Even if the Fortuner had put in decent efforts, it would've been hard to catch up with you.

The problem with the stock HIDs is that the ballast is very weak. It's a 25W ballast if I recall. Your best option is what Dr. Naren did on his car. As he says, the proposed bulb isn't a direct replacement for the stock bulb. Besides that equipment is pretty expensive if you goof up in anyways.

I've been toying with this idea for quite a while now and I am considering moving to the XP Micros to improve the lighting. It's pretty clear that the stock headlamps are useless on highways or when there are brighter lights on the road. The fogs are also pretty useless unless its a dark road. The only gripe I have with XP Micro is that there is an ugly gap once its fixed.

Jokes apart that is really fantastic running.
3 trips(Mumbai, Rajkot, Jaisalmer) combined were 7,500 kms. We visit Dayalbagh(Agra) once or twice a month. Couple of trips to Himachal, Punjab and Jammu added 2,500 kms. Around 6,000 kms covered in the city, the rest on highways.

How bad is the diesel clatter? I understand its your first diesel. Considering its the same 1.3, would like to hear from all on how is noise masking on this DDIS compared to rest of products based on the same engine.
In fact it would be a good comparative study on how efficient are noise masking schemes across the same engine based product lines. I hope some one takes it up.
I know someone who has a Ertiga with 1.3 diesel, will try and do a comparison. The sound is not bad, but one can hear it all the time, especially during cold starts. As the revvs build up, it sounds good. Above 3,000 rpm it is very noisy.

Here is the video I shot from my phone while returning from Rajkot, you can hear the engine note as I drive through the Aravalli range:

Wish I could do the comparison. I have the Swift ZDi (75HP) and Ertiga ZDi (90HP) at home but no S-Cross to do the comparison.

Of what TD I have done for a short distance in the 1.3, S-Cross has the best insulation when compared to the rest cars equipped with the same engine.

To rate it in terms of NVH starting from best to worst are (from my personal experience)

S-Cross > Ertiga > Ritz > Swift.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Maruti sells 17,863 vehicles in Utility segment (S-Cross/Brezza/Ertiga/Gypsy)

http://auto.economictimes.indiatimes...-2017/57404842

Rough Guesstimate
Brezza -9.5K
Ertiga - 5.5K
S-Cross - 2.5K
Gypsy - 0.3K

Saw this S Cross 1.3 at Adyar Ananda Bhavan near Dharmapuri. This car belongs to Anoop from Kerala who bought it a month ago.

Looks nice! Not quite the ideal country to blacken the roof. Now that Summer is Coming, Poor AC compressor might be working overtime to cool this one

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Friends , I heard someone mention to me that the 1.6 engine's Torque of 320 N-m is not the one available on wheels, rather it is the one available on the Flywheel.

The actual torque available on the wheels of the 1.6 is around 75% of 320 N-m i.e around 240 N-m. Around 25% torque is lost on the drive train of the car.

Do all brands generally report their vehicle's torque figures available on the Wheels or at Flywheel? Has Maruti created some ambiguity here?

The torque figures quoted are at the engine flywheel . In fact every manufacturer follows the same standard . So , there is no ambiguity created by Maruti.

Also, the wheel torque magnitudes are much higher due to gear reduction involved (torque at wheel = Engine torque *Gear Ratio * FInal drive ratio)
At first gear, it is 320 *4.1(first gear)*4 = 5250 approx

However, the 25% loss is a bit of exaggeration and the loss will be much less.
1. Manual transmission ==> expect a loss between 2-5%
2. Accessories power consumption (AC, Cooling fan , electrical accessories etc.,) ==> vary depending on usage. ==> this is not a loss as it used by other components
3. Driveline ==> 1-2 %
4. Tires resistance , brake drag, aero drag etc.,

So out of 320 Nm ,some of it will be used to overcome these resistances and the rest will be available as Torque at wheels .

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Of late, I am seeing many S Cross in Chennai along my office route. I lookout to see whether they are 1.6 to give mine (1.6 Blue) company but all of them are 1.3( no offence to 1.3 owners). Are there any 1.6 owners based out in Chennai (South Chennai) active in this thread so that we could in touch.
