Can the people who have test driven TUV3OO throw light on the highway behavior, say cruising around 100-120 all day long, in comparison to Duster 85PS, which is in same price bracket with TUV.

I understand that Turbo Lag is better controlled in TUV compared to Duster. However, the cruising capabilities need to throw some light.

I am not sure if you can choose but anyways I didn't experience CEAT tires.
I always change my new cars tires and it has always worked in terms of ride quality, tire noise.

I get to what you're saying. But I would rather say that the TUV isn't characterless, but somewhat purposeless, aimless - if one may say that - in the market. It offers a lot on its own, and is a pretty well rounded package for the money, but against the competition, doesn't excel in any particular job.

Hence, the TUV finds itslelf as the jack of all trades but master of none. It had to have a unique appeal for itself to find its own customer base. Right now it can only survive from crumbs out of other cars' sales.

That's probably the most apt view of the TUV till date here

There is simply no proper SUV with 4WD this side of ten lakhs, save for the Thar, or maybe the Gypsy. (oh, wait. The Force Gurkha exists too, right? But let's just conveniently 'forget' it and move on.)...

A 4WD, low ratio box and maybe hill descent assist and other electrical nannies for the top end variant will make the TUV a complete package. It also looks edgy and square, like a hardcore SUV generally does.
The 4WD TUV with low ratio gear box will be even better than the Thar off road due to the low end torque - only area the Thar would have an advantage is probably the shorter wheel base

Congrats on your Tank AutoIndian, the TUV300 sure looks stunning in that orange shade. Wishing you many many miles of smiles.

Thank you uday.ere for your wishes. Actually the pictures were taken were the car was in shade for PDI. In bright sunlight it looks far better.

I appreciate your suggestion silverknight, but that would burn a hole of 16K in my pocket. I understand where you are coming from and you have expereinced increased tyre noise with apollos. However I would like to run the car on stock tyres at least for some weeks, observe the noise levels. If bearable I will live with them.

The car in still in stockyard. The black cladding and scratch fixing is happening today and the car is likely to come to showroom later afternoon. I am planning to go to the showroom tomorrow morning to do a final inspection. I will try to compare it with other cars over there. Only when I am convinced would I clear the balance payment and give the go-ahead for registration. If I have the slightest doubt that the door have seen accident repairs, I will straightaway ask for a new car, but if that means waiting for couple of more days, then so be it.

Interesting. Is this standard practice across all dealers i.e is there like a guide/instruction set that they have to follow? Or is this dependent on which side of the bed the technician woke up Would also help if others could chime in with their experience with other car brands/dealers as I have not heard of this kind of PDI.

Not sure about other dealers, but at least this one is doing so. Since this was the first time I was visiting a Mahindra dealer stockyard, this was new to me.

A few questions:
2) What happens if the brakes actually fail during the above stress test and the car gets damaged?
Simple, I would ask for a replacement car.

Hi AutoIndian, Congratulations and the tank looks elegant in the molten orange colour

On the blackening of the B-Pillar I would suggest please have a look at the doors in detail before giving a go ahead. Check if they close properly and the alignment is proper. Also if u know any body repair guy just take him along and confirm that the doors are not worked on. It might be a case of damage in transit and its been worked upon.

I am not saying all this to disappoint you but just to make sure you a take home a stock car straight from the factory. Also when I was doing PDI of my XUV I found out one of the door was worked upon and immediately changed the car. I got to know this technique to find out the repaired door from a second hand car evaluator. Usually if the door is worked on the bottom edge of the door will not have a even smudging of the paint and u can actually feel the roughness, whereas the factory finished will be smooth. I would suggest you to check once again and give a go ahead.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for the valuable inputs fusionbang. As mentioned above only when I am convinced would I clear the balance payment and give the go-ahead for registration. I am not worried about the small scratch, but wonder how can a newly launched car come out of the factory without the B pillar blackened.

Congrat AutoIndian on the TANK. Orange was my first color preference, but could not wait for a month. Next in line was black, which I got.

I think the left door would have been from a lower variant. T4 and T6 do not have the blackened B pillar. Looks like the left side 'DOOR SPECIALIST' at M&M goofed up during the assembling of the first set of TUVs including mine and silverknights.
Both of our left side doors have rattles. Probably you might not have a rattle as the door does not belong to a T8. :D

Got my first taste of Mahindra's quality. The bluetooth microphone has gone kaput. :Frustrati I get to hear the caller, but the caller does not hear me. Did a 'default' reset, unpaired and paired again, yet still the same.
Will need to visit the service station before the 5000 km service, to get this and the door rattle fixed up. Planning to go the day after tomorrow.

Thank you Captain Rex. Orange was the first choice, but I was open for the Blue and Silver as well only in T8. However Dad was hell bent on getting the orange, hence stuck to it.

You might have hit the nail on its head over here. After coming back from stockyard I immediately checked the TUV brochure and it clearly mentions that the "Black-out pillar" comes only for the T8 variant, T4 and T6 have it in body color. So cannot rule out the possibility of the lower variant door getting fixed on T8

Hope the goof-up is only limited to the door and I don't get the features of T4 and T6 when I am paying the money for T8, just kidding.
Not sure if Silverknight has updated it here, but his door rattle issue has been fixed by the service centre. It seems the rattling noise was coming from the plastic panel on the door. They changed the clips and added foam on the door trim. SilverKnight gave me this info when I had called him on Sunday.

Very sorry to know about the bluetooth microphone issue. Did you try tapping it? May be some internal connecting wire might have become loose. Nevertheless such issues are not expected in a new car when it has undergone years of thorough testing

Wish you the very best:thumbs up. Sincerely hope both these issues get fixed in your planned visit. You can talk to SilverKnight and he can give you further details on exactly what was done to fix the door rattle. Seems his issue was promptly addressed and as per him M&M is keeping its dealers on their toes to fix any complaints related to TUV.clap:

Hey AutoIndian,
Congratulation for Tank! It's such a addictive vehicle. My father is ready to sell his 25K old Bolero DI AC for it.

There's another way to confirm variant of doors. Upholstery in T4 is only Vinyl. T6 has Vinyl+Fabric. T8 has full fabric.

Thing to mark is arm rest on rear door. If it is not padded, it's definitely of lower versions. I've personally checked T4 & I'm sure about it. I'm still in doubt that T6 has it padded or not.

Thank you for your wishes zalaps. Addictive, monster, rugged, comfortable, nimble, all these adjectives are apt for the TUV. If you look at the package holistically then there is nothing in the market, which can beat it at the price point it is offered.

Thanks buddy for that valuable input :thumbs up. This will be the first thing that I would be checking when I visit the showroom tomorrow. Hope the dealer has fixed the issue and I won't have to reject the car, fingers crossed.

Just now received a call from dealership Sales head and he mentioned his regrets as the black vinyl sticker is not available. However he said that he has received three T8s in molten orange, two were against bookings and one extra and he offered me the extra car. He took the dealership sales manager in conference and said that this car has passed all their PDI and can reach showroom tomorrow afternoon if I give the go ahead. He asked me if I want to go for this car. He gave me the chassis number of this new car. He also mentioned that the currently allotted car won't be de-allotted unless I check and confirm the new car. I asked him if the new car has vinyl stickering on both sides and if this car is in perfect condition. He replied in affirmative.

The car will be reaching the showroom tomorrow afternoon. I may not be able to inspect it tomorrow as the showroom is far off from my office. I told him that I will inspect and clear the balance payment on Friday morning, to which he agreed. I told him to keep all the documents and the car ready in two days so that I will be able to take the delivery on Sunday morning. Registration can happen at a later date. He agreed to it but also informed me that registration make take more time due to Diwali holidays at the RTO. He cautioned me not to take the car far away from the city as temp registration may create problem. I agreed with him. Lets see how things turn up tomorrow and day after.

Comprehensive review, very useful. Started liking it after reading through the review though initially didn't like the looks. Hope to own it someday!

4.5K units of TUV300 shipped in October while Bolero units has increased to 7K. Source: http://management-punditz.blogspot.ie/
Mahindra sees 32% growth in units in October (when compared to Sep) while the Maruti, Hyundai & Honda grew by 14%,11% & 8% respectively. This means M&M moves up a spot and Honda moves to 4th. Will be interesting to see how long this can continue and what will Honda do increase its share.

Thank you for sharing that procrj. Amongst those 4.5K shipments, one would be my Molten Orange T8.

Just now called the local 3M Car Care shop to inquire about black cladding for C pillar. The lady on the phone said it will depend on the area (per sq.ft.) and the type I choose.I haven't actually measured, but a wild guess is that the "C" pillar area (both sides) will come around 3-4 sq.ft. So total cost should be about Rs 800/-. She is going to talk to the concerned person and call me back by afternoon about exact costing.

Also inquired about floor mats. The 3M Nomad mats are costing @ Rs 250/- per sq.ft. Although TUV is a sub-4 metre car, it is categorized as a large car by 3M. The approx carpet area would be around 20-22 sq.ft. Hence the nomad mats would cost to the tune of 5 to 5.5K.

What do you guys think. Are the above two items worth getting from 3M?

I am really happy for you that you are getting a different car:thumbs up

Coming to 3M it is really worth as the quality is really good and holds up very well. But there are nomad mats which are cheaper outside and can be done on your own as a DIY, I am not sure on the quality of them.

Vinyl wrap for C pillar will cost you about Rs 500 and 3M mats cost me about 7k but this is discounted rate since I also had sunflim installed.

I find the rear seat upright with less under thigh support which might compromise comfort in the highway. As I am always below 100 km/hour even in the deserted highway so I am not bothered whether it can make 120 or not!

But, is it possible by any means to recline the rear seats, if needed I am ready to sacrifice jump seats. And Is it possible by any means to increase under thigh support?

I can vouch for the mats. They are brilliant despite of being slightly on the higher side of price. Just take care of getting the right fitment around the undulations in floor. Mine is not fixed right in xuv 5oo and will have to again visit the store to have re cut.
