Re: Maruti Baleno : Official Review

Please review the two pictures. The tyre hit something near the barricade of a toll booth. I was paying attention on where the fastag lane is and ended up with this. I need your opinion on the following -

1) Can I get this tyre repaired? Will it be safe to use this tyre post repair?
2) Will Maruti be able to replace this tyre under warranty?

I was barely doing 15 - 20 kmph when this happened. The tyre immediately lost pressure and I replaced it with the 15 inch spare and drove home ~250 kms at low speeds. I am reviewing the dash Cam footage to check what was near the barricade, will share the video here if I find it...

Re: Maruti Baleno : Official Review

My suggestion would be to avoid using the tyre even if repaired. Tyres are the first and only point of contact on the road and they need to be in good condition. No point in having a thought in the back of the mind that it might be unsafe. Even as a spare, not worth the risk of getting stranded.

Since it is an impact damage, it does not come under warranty. In some rare cases, they would consider some parameters (like manufacturing date of the car, total km run, Tread Wear Indicator) to offer goodwill warranty. It happened with a Baleno owner recently and he was offered goodwill discount of 50% on net billing price of the tyre. Negotiate on this with the dealer and the tyre manufacturer.

The guy in the alignment shop is a specialist working on a wide range of vehicles. He is more experienced in dealing with an alignment problems and can often make out the problem between an alignment issue vs a balancing issue. Plus he is often much cheaper. I have had much better experience using specialist alignment shop. Only thing is that you need to find a reliable one which shouldn't be very tough.

Some MASS shops who do not have alignment equipment actually use these specialist shops.

Drive on,

Hello,

Can the Alpha model tail lights be directly connected to existing wiring couplers in lower end variants (or) do they need additional wiring?

Please help.

I do a ~40 km up-down on the Eastern Freeway 4 times a week - twice on Saturday, twice on Sunday.

This weekend, I took out my GT Tsi and Baleno Alpha CVT and did a FE run - minimal braking and maintaining 50-70 kmph, identical conditions, passenger count and AC.

Baleno gave me 24.8 kmpl, GT gave me 20.6 kmpl, a 20% difference - slighty less than the ARAI difference of 24% (21.4 Vs 17.2).

Always thought the GT would be more efficient in the real world - more torque, lesser stressed engine, super efficient dsg etc, but wow, was I proved wrong. Also, the AC is way better in comparison to the VW. The suspension is more silent as well and thuds are better suppressed. Credit where it's due though - once you depress the accelerator in the GT, game over.

The pictures show that there is a cut in the side wall. Since you say that the tyre lost pressure immediately afterwards, we know it is a puncture. From what I know, it is unsafe to use this tyre.

I had a similar experience with my Indica - I failed to notice a pothole at 70kmph and the tyre and wheel's rim bore the brunt of the damage. It was a tubed tyre and the tyre didn't lose pressure. I only noticed the damage after traveling about 200km from the spot of mishap.

A tyre technician at a small shop told that the damage was superficial and told me to use the tyre as spare after placing a flap under the damaged spot. This happened a few years ago. If the same happened today, I wouldn't use the tyre.

Hi, as far as I know, this can be done on Zeta because of the BCM module being same.

Hi All,

Though the tail lights seem to be a direct fit on Zeta variant, the wiring harness is not.

We checked both the tail lights and found that the ones in Alpha have 6 pin connector whereas the ones in lower variants have 5 pin.

So, the complete harness has to be changed.

There could be some jugaad way of tapping power for the LED strip, but I don't want to mess up with factory wiring.

Re: Maruti Baleno : Official Review

Baleno stock foot-well lights changed to S-Cross ones. DIY. It's the same connector used for both car lights, so fits perfectly.

Part No: 36550M57L30
Price: ₹200 per light

S-Cross foot-well lights:

And pax side comparison:

After the swap, the foot-well illumination is much better than before

P.S. Do not forget to switch off the foot-well lights in MID before changing them.

I have a query my car is due for insurance renewal. I wanted to take a NCB protect for my car.
When I checked with Maruti they don't offer it and Hdfc.
But the conditions it says to retain your NCB seem dumb to me.
It says you can retain NCB provided your car is stationary and windshield is damaged or affected by flood or rain only.
Which now makes me this does this protection actually mean anything or is it worth it?
Anyone who took it can throw some light on it for me
TIA

Re: Maruti Baleno : Official Review

There comes another problem out with Baleno, brake noise issue; also in Swift and Dzire too. Of late, some Baleno owners mentioned this in FB groups that when they complained about this issue in service centres, they discarded it as saying ABS does make noise. Now this seems to be a genuine problem that Maruti wants to take countermeasures.

Even I am facing this issue in Baleno
Even my service guy said it's ABS sound.
So how do we get this rectified will Maruti call us or take the car to service centre after said date and get it replaced?
TIA for the information

I'm not entirely sure how Maruti is gonna deal with this. However, as you said, they might replace the part if one has brake noise issue and visits any service centre. Needs to gather some more information on this.

Re: Maruti Baleno : Official Review

I know many Baleno owners with faulty suspensions have already replaced them under warranty who were under cut-off list, but this email sent to the dealers reveals some interesting anecdotes.
