Re: Tata Tiago : Official Review

I recently drove a Tiago of my friend and it was 2022 model and I don't know the variant but the car had projector setup and overall interior seemed to be good compared to the price point. However while driving the car it was observed that it had plenty of vibration in the gear lever as well as in the steering during acceleration. I don't know if this was a model specific issue or overall car issue and this put me off. Otherwise the other driving dynamics were good and the car really had a feel safe feel good factor.

I own 2021 Tiago AMT XZA+. I do agree that the interior is more than good for a car in this segment.
Coming to the gear lever and steering column vibrations, I haven't faced it on my car in the 15k+ run so far. But it might be due to the AMT where the shift are very conservative (eager to downshift). However, I have noticed it in manual Tiago of a relative primarily when you are jot in the right gear. But once you get used to the gear ratios, you shouldn't face these issues.

I own Tiago AMT 2022 and I can confirm the same. I have not noticed any excessive vibration in the steering. I have driven Seltos for 2 years prior to this car and honestly I was quite surprised by the vibrations inside Tiago's cabin. I was expecting it to be worse because of 3 cylinder engine.

To summarize, I am highly satisfied with my 6 year run with Tata Tiago XZ (Diesel). Never had any issue with this car. It always lived up to my expectations and has been a great companion on my innumerable solo and family road trips. I have enjoyed driving this car and it is truly the family car I was looking for! However, now I am looking forward to upgrading my car! Though, my mind says to continue with Tiago as long as I can, the car enthusiast in me is forcing me to replace this perfect small family car with a giant SUV only for the thrill and fun to drive factor! Hence, I have booked a Mahindra Scorpio N Z4 D AT 2WD which will be tentatively delivered between Dec 22 to Jan 23. Till then I plan to fully enjoy the ownership of this little marvel!

Best Regards,
Cool-Shine
Finally, I sold of Tiago on 27-Dec-2022 after using for 6 years and 4 months and 138K kms. This car was simply superb and never let me down. I thoroughly enjoyed my ownership period with this amazing car. I sold it to Cars 24 who offered me a price I expected. Overall experience with Cars 24 was smooth and hassle-free.

I had already booked M&M Scorpio N Z4 D AT on very first day and got it delivered on 14-Jan-2023. Currently enjoying this awesome machine created by Mahindra but whenever I see any Tiago on road and that too in silver color, I really miss mine

I hope new owner will also take equally good care my lovely Tia.

Re: Tata Tiago : Official Review

Hey Everyone, I need some advice.

Long Post Warning!

My uncle has a June 2018 manufactured Tata Tiago XTA.
He's an old man and drives with a rather heavy foot.
Since October 2022 it has faced an odd issue intermittently.

His standard trip is about 7 KM to the nearest Town from our place and back(we live in the same compound).

In October 2022 he faced an issue where once he parked his car for some time, it wouldn't start up again. The car wouldn't crank at all. Just the lights in the fuel and temperature gauge dimming out and coming back with no sound or movement.
Twice I went over and was able to start the car immediately.
The 3rd time it took nearly 2 hours during which we almost called Tata RSA which was a big episode in itself, but just as the tow truck guy was about to start from the nearest authorized service centre, the car started up and I drove it down to the Service Centre myself.

Point to be noted: I have driven the car in between on similar and longer trips and never faced this issue and neither has a driver frequently called to take the car on long trips.

The service centre took a couple of days but didn't find anything wrong of note, they just replaced the Relay for the starter as a precaution and noted that they didn't face the issue while the car was with them (27 to 29 October 2022)

The car then ran well till 26 December 2022 with no issues, when it resurfaced.
I took it for its regular service on 28 December 2022 and informed them that the issue had occurred again.
This time, I requested them to check the Brake switch linked to the starting procedure, which was replaced as a precaution.

The car then ran fine till 10 February when the issue happened again. This time a local mechanic was called in before I could reach the car. The mechanic reached there by about 12 PM and I reached by about 2:30 PM, the car didn't start with all our efforts till about 4:30 PM.
The one common thing I observed between the two incidents when it didn't start for a long time was that the ambient temperature at the place where the car was parked was 35 degrees and in both cases, the car started after the temperature dropped to about 33 degrees.

I mentioned this to the 2 mechanics following which they suggested that some IC or Sensor may be overheating leading to the car not starting.
So far no error codes were observed in any of the visits to either the Service Centre or workshop.
Both the parking spots require quite a bit of back-and-forth manoeuvring to park the car unless you are a parking specialist.

I suspected an overheating gearbox might be causing issues with some sensor or the gearbox itself.

Now after 2 days of Investigation, the local Workshop contacted me and explained that a sensor of the AMT system is causing the issue and that it will cost about 8000 rupees and has a lead time of about 1 to 2 weeks to receive the part.

I'm looking for advice on the following points 1. Should I take it to the Tata Authorised service centre and ask for a second opinion?
2. Should I take the car to the service centre or the local workshop for the replacement of the sensor if it is necessary?
3. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Note: I'll update the actual part name once I collect the car from the Workshop.

Tata Tiago : Official Review-enginebay.jpg

Folks, what is the exact name of the coupler (circled in red) in this image? Looks like it's mount is broken and the coupler has a loose connection which shuts off the engine intermittently. Visited a BOSCH garage where they recommended getting it replaced from TASS itself but it's going to be expensive since it comes with the wiring and all. Then I visited another local garage where the guy put Fevi-quick at the coupler joint as a jugaad which solved the engine cut-off issue for few days but now it's back again, the engine dies all of a sudden while vehicle is in motion and then refuses to start but somehow it starts again if we give it sometime and keep trying, I checked the coupler and it doesn't seem to be loose but the engine dies randomly especially when the AC is on which might not be related but it happens more often and sooner if the AC is turned on else the car runs fine for sometime before dying on us. So we are not sure if the coupler is the culprit or there's some other fault here. Before visiting TASS, it'd be helpful if I can find the part price on Boodmo or similar sources.

The couplers will be a part of the front / engine wiring harness kit & most definitely will not be available as a child part. On boodmo - they arent. I know.

Also - changing the coupler will anyway mean cutting the existing one and re-soldering /connecting the wires to one of the 2 or both new ones depending on what you exactly change.

If you want to give it a try really - your easiest bet will be to visit some TASC, ideally where you have some known/trusted SA or mechanic. Visit their scrap area with totaled cars & extract the couplers from a total-loss Tiago. Will be cost effective as well.

If your car is still in warranty - you should simply ask for the harness replacement in warranty & get it over with. The front harness typically may even be as much as 20K or so. I have known people "simulating" rat damages to the harness, and claiming a replacement under insurance claims to save some money.

Re: Tata Tiago : Official Review

Hello everyone, need advice from Tiago users.
I'm in market for a hatch back as my 2010 Santro Xing is nearing 15 years of life and in Delhi/NCR you cannot use petrol car beyond 15 years. It is still running fine. The engine is refined and is rev happy.

Recently I drove Tiago of my friend which was 2018 model with about 50k on ODO. We were 5 adults in the car, and I was on the driving seat. I felt the car was very sluggish to pull and the engine was not at all revving freely. I had to keep the car in 3rd gear for most of the time when trying to pick the speed. It was super slow in picking the speed. I did not enjoy driving it even for a second.

I'm considering Tiago as it fits my requirement and I want to have a TATA as I have driven TATA Manza for 9.5 years without any problem. But the only thing keeping me away from TATA showroom is the experience I had with friend's Tiago and it being a 3-cylinder motor. If my Tiago would drive the same after 4-5 years, then I'm not at all going to buy it. I enjoy driving Santro even after 13 years and 1.25l on ODO.

Kindly let me know your experiences with Tiago / Tigor specifically with the engine behavior after 4-5 years and 50-60k on the ODO.

Driving 2019 Tiago NRG and this is 4th year after purchase. It has clocked 23K kilometers and running like a gem. I never felt it out of breath or struggling to pickup on full load. Rather I keep on mentioning that car behaves the same way no matter how many passengers are there. I did not see any issue at all. Not sure if the car you drove is one of an example of bad piece. I agree that the run on my car is pretty low, thanks to Covid lock downs then. But got a feedback on 2020 Tigor from my friend that matches with my experience perfectly. Also I heard that 2020 onwards TATA has improved the NVH levels by adding a balancer shaft so things should improve over older models. I got 3 years of extended warranty.

Okay so this is something every Tiago has?! It wasn't an issue for me in the beginning. But now it has got worse.

What do you mean by engine dead? My Tiago sometimes finds it very hard to move in 2nd gear at around 20kmph and starts violently shaking. Throws us forward and backward a bit. Is that what you mean?

Try elegant auto retail mats. They fit perfectly. Had one in my Tiago years ago. That was the deluxe mat which they stopped making. Now it's coir finish which is also good but the deluxe one was almost BMW level quality mats. Sigh!

Re: Tata Tiago : Official Review

Any updates on the Tiago update? Saw this YouTube video which says there have been some mechanical upgrades and there's comments with more info.

This comment was particularly interesting, although I can't vouch for its veracity.

Quote:
Tata & RDE Team improved

- engine supporter bushes

- heavy balancer shaft

- ideal rpm

- injection speed and there diameters

- adjusted the position of air filter and pipes

- engine mount chasis
Edit - And if all of this is indeed true, would it be equally applicable to the Tigor 2023 as well?
